Well done Qantas i flew from London to Sydney in december 1981 the first time i had ever flown in a commercial aircraft it was a 747 a very happy memory i have loved to fly ever since and have done this trip many times in a 747 sad to see you go
I will always have fond memories too of flying in the B747. I did the long haul flights to London as well a few times on the Qantas B747
Hi, from the UK. Lovely flight over Sydney, i did a helicopter flight over Sydney, and the northern beaches, ( 2015 ) so many familiar sights. So sad to see all the B747's being retired, been lucky to have flown on many, with different airlines, over the years, most recently with, Virgin Atlantic, to Orlando, Florida, back in december. No other aircraft, changed the face of long haul travel, the way the B747 did.
Wow awesome. A helicopter flight over Sydney, especially the Northern Beaches would be a great way to see our beautiful city.
Yes i will always have fond memories of the B747. i flew them on both Qantas and British Airways between Sydney and London.
My first flight from UK to NZ was on one of these beauties. Thanks for making air travel more accessible to us all 747!
I would love to know how many people flew between Sydney and London via the Queen to the Skies. Both Qantas and British Airways were flying the B747s so there must have been massive traffic between the 2 places.
@@NowGetThere That was 1995. Yes, there were plenty of 747 Qantas & BA flights going at the time. Last time I went was with Emirates on the A380. They've just finished production of the wings up the coast from me. So sad.
I flew on one of the 747s in 2018 i was younger and I didn’t know how special it was but now I know how special it was so I wish I could I fly on one but there retired
RIP Queen Of The Sky’s🛫
There are still a few airlines still flying the B747 but dont think it will be for long
Wow thanks for the video as I am stuck in Melbourne I couldn't farewell her but glad she got a proper farewell surrounded by fans!!
Yes it's a big shame that Melbourne doesn't get a farewell flight! Glad you enjoyed the video. I will not rub in how AWESOME the flight was ;)
Brought tears to my eyes that landing.
I had tears in my eyes a few times on this flight. A very emotional day
@@NowGetThere I bet it was.
Thank you for posting such a beautiful video. I know that many of us can't be on this special farewell 747 flight on QANTAS but you have created a fantastic video. I almost feel I was there with you guys, great job! I have so many wonderful memories with numerous QF 747 flights for the last two decades. I just can't believe that the queen has to go so soon. I am going to LAX on July 22 to watch her last landing before her rest for long time at Victorville or somewhere in desert.
Thanks for your comment. I am so happy to share the experience with others. The tickets for this flight sold out in 8 minutes so I was sure lucky to get onboard.
I have had many awesome experiences on the beautiful B747. I was honoured to be onboard for this farewell flight and share my experience.
I must admit I had a few tears in my eyes during this flight ;)
Enjoy your trip to LAX and hope you get some good photos or video of her last landing.
Very good to see you protecting yourself during these special times, and it's good to see aviation contents during these special times, nice video, take care!
Qantas handed out the face masks to everyone that got on board. Sadly probably only 10% of people who were onboard put the mask on.
I think Jetstar are also handing out masks for their flights. I will find out next week as fly up to the Gold Coast for a well deserved long weekend. Flight review to be posted sometime next weekend.
thank you for the memories indeed!! The first time I ever flew Qantas alone back to Hk was in 2014 on a 747! So many memories on the 747 on QF127/8. Wonderful video! I love how to crew at the door just called you Scott😝
I love it when they call me by my first name. i find that more personal than when they call me by my surname. Sounds so formal calling me Mr hehehehe.
I had flown on the Qantas B747 many times to Tokyo as well as to Los Angeles, to Singapore and then on to London Heathrow and back again. It has always been my favourite aircraft. The thrust and noise on take-off is awesome.
When international travel returns, i am going to fly with airlines that still fly with B747 just to add some more memories.
I flew on the Cathay Pacific B747 before they retired 2 years ago.
I would think the pilots enjoyed this as much as you and I did....well done to Qantas and Air Services Australia for putting on a great farewell flight !! They will be missed our " Queen of the Skies" Thanks mate and yes I love the cap !!
Yeah I thought the same that the pilots would have enjoyed this flight as well. Not often they would have flown so low in a B747, especially over the best harbour in the world.
The Captain of this flight is retiring after these Farewell flights so it is a great way for him to say goodbye to The Queen.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us mate
No problem 👍
What a privilege it would have been to have been on that particular flight
It sure was. As soon as I heard they were selling tickets to that flight, I jumped on to get a ticket. It may be the last time I get to fly on the iconic B747.
@@NowGetThere I was privileged enough to fly on a 747-400 way back in 1987 to the U.K. and back
That is a long way to fly. Good that you went on the Queen of the Skies!
Α real legend.Too sad.Great video mate
So sad. My favourite aircraft retired from Qantas.
So great that you were able to do this. Being an Aussie growing up in New York I flew the 747 every year back to Australia, so I did get my fair share of rides on the queen, including OEJ, but wish I had a chance to say goodbye to her. Unfortunate that they didn't do anything special for us Americans.
This was a very special flight. I have also flown many times on the beautiful B747, from Sydney to the US, Sydney to Hong Kong and on many flights to Tokyo.
When I heard this flight was being arranged, I made sure to get a ticket. Tickets sold out in 8 minutes so i was very lucky to get onboard.
A great way to say goodbye to the Queen.
United did a farewell 747 flight over SF a few years back.
Cool video! I was DYING to go on this flight but we couldn't :'( Good to see you and a few others got a chance to go on it!
Glad I could share the experience. I've received messages from a few people who missed out on getting a ticket.
That’s so cool the 747 has Been an icon fo qantas for 50 years it was very special
So sad they had to retire the iconic B747. They have always been my favourite aircraft. That may be the last time I get to fly on one.
Just subbed to your Instagram channel.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful farewell flight video over SYD with us.
Greetings from Switzerland
Thanks for the sub! Thank you for watching all the way over in Switzerland! G'day from Down Under.
NowGetThere - The pandemic has brought all my plans upside down - I have planned to fly ZRH-AMS / AMS-YYZ (on a KLM B747) in business / YYZ-DXB-MEL on an A380 of Emirates in first/ and the way back from SYD to celebrate my 60th birthday... but now I am sitting here in ZRH dreaming of that trip....
I hear you loud and clear. I have had to change travel plans this year so many times. I've missed out on going to Vanuatu in April, Japan in March (holiday), Tokyo in June (Business trip) and I was planning to go to Dubai in October for World Expo 2020. Today was the first time on a plane in 5 months and it didn't go anywhere ;)
Stay safe and hope you can celebrate your 60th soon.
wow so cool to see you flying the last flight technically for the Qantas B747
It was very cool! As soon as I heard this flight was happening I made sure I got a ticket. We were told that the tickets sold out in 8 minutes on the Qantas website.
It may be the last time I fly on the B747 so I am so glad I got to experience that flight.
New Zealand 2
They did a flight in canberra on the 17th of July so technically this wasn't the last flight with passengers.
Yep they did 3 farewell flights. 1 in Sydney, 1 in Brisbane and last 1 in Canberra
@@NowGetThere yeah, the flight at BNE flew right over my house lol.
Great video, I can see myself in this video, also because I was on the joy flight
That's cool! Glad you were also among the few that got to enjoy this memorial flight.
honestly so sad to see the 747s go.. the only time I flew them was on their commemorative flight from Mel to Syd earlier this yr- wish I could've gone on this one too :(( thank you for your amazing coverage tho :)
Sorry to hear that missed out on the flight. From the comments there were many that missed out. Glad I could share the experience.
Amazing work on the video!
Looks amazing.
Also, nice to meet you on this special day!
Hey Doug. Very nice to meet you too. How awesome was that flight? I am still buzzing from the experience. Look forward to seeing your video and more of your flights.
@@NowGetThere the takeoff was unreal! So amazing and we got the whole package haha. I bet the pilots had fun being able to throw the aircraft around Sydney Harbour. Amazing stuff! 🙌🏻
Unforgettable experience.
Yeah the pilots would have had a ball flying this flight. Not often they get such a low fly over for so long. Great way for the Captain to retire.
Can I ask how noisy it was in the cabin flying around at the low altitudes?
@@eloisebrynlee No noisier than flying at high altitude
For she a jolly good airplane...for she a jolly good airplane .....for she a jolly good airplane....and so say all of us ......thanks for the memories
and so say all of us! I will forever have fond memories of the Queen of the Skies.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you
You're welcome
Awesome video! You were seated on the exact seat on the exact aircraft I flew on coming back from Tokyo Haneda last year! Atmosphere must have been amazing!
Very cool! I had flown the B747 from Tokyo Haneda as well but I got to fly in the upper deck.
The atmosphere on this flight was amazing. All the passengers were excited to be on this flight, as were the crew. Thanks for watching
@@NowGetThere Thanks a lot for your reply! I have a quick question, was your flight scheduled for an 8:30am departure, or was that the time at which you were meant to arrive at the airport? I'm trying to figure out at what time the flight in Canberra will depart (it says 10:30am) on Qantas' website. Thanks in advance!
The flight in Sydney was schedule to depart at 10.15am. We had to meet at the Qantas Club at 8.30am to pick up our boarding passes. The flight ended up taking off around 10.30am.
@@NowGetThere Awesome, thank you so much! That means the flight in Canberra should depart at around 12. Thank you once again!
How was the Canberra farewell flight?
Flown on Qantas 747's many times between London Heathrow and Sydney. The gradual decline of their long haul product was very apparent from about 2006 onwards.
Yeah for sure. I flew the B747 many times between Sydney and Tokyo over the last 10 years and they were looking very tired and used inside the planes.
I do like the B747 but there something nice about getting into a shiny new plane with that new plane smell.
I saw it off in Brisbane, played the top gun theme and danger zone as it did a flyover and landed, fucking good vids
I've only seen 1 video so far from the Farewell Brisbane flight. I''ll be checking over the weekend for more videos from the Brisbane flight and today's very last Canberra flight.
NowGetThere I can upload it tomorrow so you can check it out if you want?
I look forward to seeing it
I was also playing the Top Gun opening theme as part of my reflective music selection (headphones) during my airport sideline visit - great choices!
Seat 59A that's the same number I had when I did SYD-BNE last year my first and only time on a QF 747 it was well worth the trip across the tasman for it
Snap! Same seat buddies
I was two rows behind you, in 61A 😊 what a flight!!
Awesome. How good was this flight? It was an emotional day with the excitement of being on that flight and sadness of saying farewell to The Queen.
I am proud to admit I had a few tears in my eyes which I did not expect. First when everyone clapped after takeoff and me realising that maybe the last takeoff in the B747 (best takeoff thrust of any passenger plane) and 2nd tear when the cabin crew made the farewell speech after landing. Such a beautiful speech.
@@NowGetThere It was emotional. I'm lucky, I live 2 minutes away from OJA at the HARS museum, so I get to see a 747 sporting the red kangaroo every day. Driving home after the flight, seeing our local Queen, I think then it really hit for me. Just thinking about OEJ heading off to the desert.. very sad to imagine. I'll get to see her fly over OJA on her way to the US for one final farewell.
I have never been to the HARS Aviation Museum. I only found out about that museum as heard the profits from this flight will be donated to HARS.
Soon I will make a trip down to the museum. I checked out their website and saw they got a heap of interesting planes including a B747. I presume you can go onboard. I look forward to seeing it.
@@NowGetThere Oh you can absolutely go on the 747. Can do a wing walk, a cockpit experience, all sorts of things. They have Connie the Lockheed Super Constellation too. That's amazing to see and hear. And plenty of other aircraft. Soon we'll have John Travolta's 707 on display next to the 747. Until the COVID it'd been getting the necessary work done for flight clearance from the US, but don't know of the delay due to COVID. It's a fantastic working museum, I highly recommend a visit :)
Yeah there are so many planes I want to see at HARS including the B747, the Caribou, Orion and the Huey Cobra Helicopter.
I did read they are getting John's 707. I will make a trip back to see that when it arrives.
B747-400 Queen of the skies will be missed ( Aussies ) QF 747 Thanks for the memories.
Thanks for watching. The Queen will definitely be missed. This was always my favourite aircraft to fly in
Aussie living in the states 30 plus years, made many pacific crossings on the Qantas 747, probably been on this plane, sad day. Love the 747
A very sad day for Qantas aviation. This week British Airways also announced their entire B747 would retire immediately. They are the biggest operator of the B747.
Aaaaaaw, how sweeeeeeet that was;-)))
Very nice experience to fly on one of the last flights on Qantas B747
Wooooo hes backkkkk
I am back! More flight reviews coming real soon.

Great video! OEJ made an epic banking flyover my place just after takeoff! got some great shots of it!
0:50 - It's Brisbane on Wednesday, and then Canberra on Friday. got a little mixed up there 😂
1:03 - I've been told OEJ has been sold to somewhere in South America (no confirmation yet)
7:52 - Haven't seen anything in the description yet?
Yep I mixed it up. You are correct, Brisbane flight is on Wednesday and Canberra on Friday.
I saw some epics video of the flight on the Channel 9 news tonight.
Yeah I also heard some of the Qantas B747 may be bought by another airline but I had not heard which one. it would be awesome if they get a new life in a different airline.
I will post up the full flight video over the weekend. I've updated the description to advise when i post it and will update with the link
@@NowGetThere Ah I see, looking forward to the full flight video 😁
They should put it in a museum because of its legacy
There is a Qantas B747-400 down at HARS Historial Avation Museum down near Woolongong.
Since Melbourne is closed you could do some flight reviews to and from Brisbane and maybe Hobart
I am flying up to the Gold Coast next week and then looking to fly up to Cairns in August so I will get some new flight reviews posted up soon.
Been so long since I went anywhere so looking forward to it.
Thanks for watching
With the COVID19 having a significant impact on air travel, the writing was on the wall for the Qantas 747-400s and the British airways 747s this year
The airline industry has taken a massive hit with the travel restrictions. All of Qantas A380s are in storage and may stay there for the next 12 months.
It will be interesting to see which airlines survive through this massive downturn
Seeing all these 747s retirement videos is truly sad and I’m even more sad because my chance of getting the opportunity to flying on one is going away.☹️
It is a very sad time in the aviation community with the B747s retiring. 2 years ago Cathay Pacific retired their B747s, then American Airlines, now Qantas and British Airways.
I had a liking for the 747SP Qantas had in the 80-90's , VH-EAA & VH-EAB....The pocket rocket.
Nice. Qantas had quite a few different models of the B747
The queen does not deserve to die 747-8 is my fav plane it is sad to see it go :(
I sure will miss the amazing B747s.
OmG so good to listen to this good news
Sad news :(

Farewell 747. VH-OEJ. 🖐
Farewell indeed. I sure will miss the Qantas B747
See myself in this too many times, 55D :)
Are you a star in my video??
♥️ The Queen!
Indeed The Queen!
Sorry i did get my dates wrong. Brisbane flight on Wed 15th and Canberra flight on Friday 17th. Sorry for the confusion. I try to do things from memory but my old memory not so good ;)
NowGetThere No worries.. 🙂 I’m glad Canberra will be included but sad for Melbourne at the same time. 😯
@@eloisebrynlee Yes very sad for aviation enthusiasts in Melbourne!

There is a face reveal in this video but with a mask on! Maybe next time I'll do the full face reveal.
I use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit my videos.

Great video, sucks to be born too late.
Thank you. Hopefully some new iconic aircraft will be born soon and take us into the future with as much grace and reverence.
💙 Nothing will beat the Queen of the Skies, although I wasn’t given the opportunity to be on a B747 and since Qantas isn’t operating a joyflight for Victoria cause Melbourne is in lockdown, I’ll remember watching the 747 on approach to Melbourne from my house and it was spectacular, nothing beats seeing it in your eyes compared to a camera. Were you given Qantas Points and Status Credits for this flight? (surely you got 747 points and 400 status credits) Ahahah stay safe and looking forward to when you have the opportunity to fly with Qantas soon, cause of COVID. Take care 😁
No points or status credits were awarded for this flight.
The profits from this flight will be donated to HARS Aviation Museum close to Woolongong.
They have a retired Qantas B747-400 at the museum which you can go inside and even walk along the wing. I'll go visit this museum to check out this Queen.
Can I ask what the seating arrangements were re social distancing? Also assume that they couldn’t fully book the flight re pandemic as well.
There were spaces between each passenger so they did abide by social distancing rules. They only sold 160 Economy seats and they handed out face masks when we boarded the aircraft but sadly only about 10% of the people onboard put on their masks.
NowGetThere Ah thanks. I haven’t flown for over six months, having cancelled booked trips like so many. On Friday 17 July I was one of the crowd that were standing aft of the aircraft, behind the precinct fence. The airport authorities drove past and politely yelled at us to keep our distance from one another. I know they were just doing their job. Didn’t see many masks on at all there but I sense that will change from now going forward. CBR missed its biennial Open Day this year so this visit made up for that. ♥️
I really sad retirement “Queen of the skies”. 😭
Yes it is so sad the Queen of the Skies is retiring
I get to experience this on Friday from Brisbane
Awesome. Enjoy the Brisbane flight which will be the real last flight with passengers. I am sure you will love the flight.
@@NowGetThere Qantas are idiots in my opinion for retiring the Queen of the Skies. Why not retire those lumbering giants (A380). They could easily fill a 747 compared to an A380. Thanks i look forward to the flight
I thought General Electric were buying her to use for testing. My dad who worked for Qantas was telling me. But that aside thanks for sharing as I can show my dad. We were going to get a seat for him but he has not been well and doesn't go out much these days. I watched her on flight radar and hoping to drive to Canberra to get some good pics for dad.
So sad your Dad wont have the chance to fly. Hope he enjoys the video. There were lots of ex Qantas employees on the flight, ex engineers and crew. Such a beautiful day for an epic flight.

@@NowGetThere well I could still make it to Canberra. It's been many years since I've been to Canberra airport. Quite possibly when I was 15 and flew in the jump seats organised by dad during busy school hols Australian Airlines. The good old days.

What? Qantas too? Great, first Air France now this... this was means to move out from UK to Australia. Now, I have a feeling my desire to move out has been barred.
Yep Qantas and then British Airways retired their entire B747 fleet too
as a kid I remember a time when Qantas was an all-747 fleet.
That's interesting. I didn't know that. I thought Qantas still would have had a fleet of smaller aircraft for their domestic routes and other planes like the 707 for short haul flights.
You are 100% right. I had to check that fact but it is true - Qantas became the world's only all Boeing 747 operator in 1979 after they retired the 707s.
Thanks for sharing that fact.
My Fravirote plane always loved it I was actually on the plane tickets went really fast I always haved loved this plane Thank You And Goodbye
The B747 has always been my favourite plane too. She will be sadly missed.
Thanks for watching
Some planes you are happy to see go. the F-28 was a noisy beast. the DC-10 was a boring old plane. But as the flagship for so many great airlines, boarding a 747 meant you were on a flagship flight,, one important enough to warrant a 747. And that is the big difference between the loss of the DC-10 vs 747 even though the flying experience wasn.t all that different. And I think this is why we feel it's a loss. Now all thar are left are boring long narrow tube flights.
In the 1990s, I flew Qantas:
747-SP once
747-300
747-400
Though we have now regressed to the 1960s where a 707 was enough for long hauls, I have to wonder how fast the demand will come back and if the economics will dictate the 777 and 350-1000 are the new maximum size or whether the 747 or 380 class aircraft will ever come back.
The loss of the 747 is likely akin to the loss of Concorde, truly the end of an era where something truly new is gone for good, forcing us to return to more boring flying.
BTW: upon landing at Sydney, a 747 flight would normally include "Welcome to Sydney, It is now , the flight attendant clearly failed in this most important task :-)
The B747 is a truely iconic plane with so many people having fond memories of flying. You sure did get to plane a few of the different models of B747.
She will be missed by many.
Could you please tell me why at 7:55 you said check the description for the full flight, but I couldn't find it? I'm not mad, I'm just wnondering why you said that. If you forgot, could you please put it in the reply. Thanks!
Sorry about that. I had full intentions of posting up the full video but have not had the chance. Sorry i didn't explain in the desciption. I will update it now to stop confusion. I will update once I get to post up the full video.

Bye bye Qantas 747 along with BA B747 and all other airlines around the world. Saddest day in aviation history
I heard that British Airways announce this week the retirement of their entire B747 fleet immediately. They had the biggest B747 fleet in the world. Sad week for aviation.
@@NowGetThere absolutely. Virgin Atlantic as well earlier this year
I wanted to go but they sold out in 10 min. Now all I want is that cap! Where can I get one!!!
Yeah they told us before the flight yesterday that all the tickets sold in 8 minutes. i was on their website refreshing the screen until the flights went on sale.
I think they only handed out those caps to people on the flight. One of the perks for this historical flight. I will cherish my cap :)
Agree with u mike.....I want that cap too....😕
Sneaky face reveal great video :D
Masked face reveal ;) I'm working up to the full face reveal.
I live in Sydney
Me too
i was wondering why are they letting the plane go :(
👍
They always planned to retire the B747 fleet as it is not as fuel efficient and the new aircraft they are bringing into the fleet = B787-9 Dreamliners. With no more international flights for rest of this year, they retired the B747s early. Was supposed to be at the end of 2020.
Old plane, old livery, old technology, old seats - how did Qantas get away with having this in their fleet for so long
Loads of airlines have been using the B747 up till now. British Airways, which has the largest fleet of B747s, just announced this week they will retire their entire fleet immediately due to the downturn in travel.
Plenty of new planes which are much more fuel efficient to take their place.
The aircraft has the sky beds in business and first....just didnt show them. These particular 747-400ER's weren't that old actually...alot newer than some of BA's dinosaurs.
qantas should keep this plane as a tourist attration forget cost of such an icon of flying history but saddly i think within couple years it will be in pieces 😔😭these jets are disappearing at an alarming rate !!!! 😏😡😠😠
There is a Qantas B747-400 at the HARS Aviation Museum down near Woolongong.
There is one on display in outback Queensland. qfom.com.au

Hahah funny he said the price was 747
It was $747 for Business Class and $400 for Economy = 747-400.
And the flight was QF747
I love you vids and plus when I went away last year and I tried doing the times laps thing where you push back and taxi and it failed it was stuttery 😂😍
I film the push back and taxi in real time, then when I edit the video I speed up the video speed. Best way to do it
Whole video overexposed and washed out.
Yep. You the first person to comment on the overexposure. My fault. Wrong settings on my Lumix camera.
Mr confuse first off shored maintainance jobs then no one bothered, now fired 6000 and rubs it in by scrapping perfectly good aircraft that is more reliable than latest junk Max 8.Is there no one to question these looney moves?
Oh first Qantas hater comment! No Max 8 in the Qantas fleet and doubt there ever will be.
Many other airlines are retiring their B747 fleet as they are not as fuel efficient as the newer aircraft like the B787-9. Cathay Pacific retired all their B747s about 2 years ago. It was scheduled for Qantas to retire the fleet by end of this year but brought forward due to no international flights and not expected to have high volumes once they open the international borders of Australia for maybe another 2 years.
@@NowGetThere no buddy, must be hard to read, I'm not a "hater" just stinks that this clown gets paid millions $ a year and has no shame in sending jobs overseas and firing workers.
👍 ok cool. Yeah I hear what you saying. Apparently he not getting paid for the rest of this year due to the hardship the airline industry going through. I think the $28 Mil he earned last year may do for a bit ;)
Not to be one of those people but masks?
Yep masks. Not sure if you've seen the news over the last 5 months...virus, pandemic etc....
NowGetThere I’m asking becuase I don’t see anyone wearing them...
@@skylerkennedy8307 Yeah, the handed out masks when we boarded the plane but I'd say less than 10% of people wore the mask on the plane.
Things have changed. I flew up to Gold Coast last weekend on Jetstar and most people were wearing the masks they handed out.
NowGetThere I guess most places are now getting over it, guess I’m used to America now 😂
Thank you
