The 787's and a350's will never replace the 747's flight experience. They are majestic and part of the aviation history since its beginning as well as airplanes lovers. Wish to see more companies adopting the new 747-8 to keep this aircraft model in the sky.

Enjoyed this very much . I’ve flown many times on the 747 , but one flight in particular was in 1987 , when my kids had a visit during flight to the flight deck . We were flying between Vienna and Singapore and were over the Bay of Bengal . It wouldn’t happen now of course , but courtesy of Singapore Airlines they made it possible . My old neighbour was a check captain with QF on the 747 , he loved them and said it was like “ a big Cessna “ to fly . I’m sure it was a bit more demanding than that , sadly we lost him not so long ago , but my mind did go there while viewing this video . Thanks Paul , it was one of your best and one for the archives ..

My favourite trip in a 747 was to Johannesburg from Sydney where we flew right down across Antarctica looking for favourable winds and finding some getting our ground speed up to 1086km/hr which for me seemed really fast and the views were spectacular! As a little kid I also got to fly in a SP from Townsville to London around 1981 maybe and that was amazing as before then the biggest plane I had been in was a Fokker F27!

just did that flight in december last year (syd to joberg then return) . got to see Antarctica for all of a minute only :( there was just too much cloud cover blocking everything, but it was still pretty what I saw. I also was surprised at the speed we were flying as i didn't think the plane would fly that fast especially into a headwind

I've flown in 747's many times since the 1980s, but sadly only ever in economy. My #1 bucket list item in aviation has been an upper deck flight on the queen, but sadly it will go unrealized. My first memories of the 747 were from the early 70s...My school class took a field trip to SFO and part of the trip was the opportunity to tour a Pan Am 747 and of course a visit to the cockpit and an opportunity to sit in the left seat. The 747 also brought me home from two overseas deployments in the military. This plane has been a huge part of my life and am quite sad to see them go.

David Cole- I live between Seattle and Seoul and travel back and forth once per year. Last year I was really excited and purposely booked(business class) with ANA with a layover in Narita, then on to Seoul on a codeshare flight on an A380 with Asiana. I was bummed when the plane was changed a month out to an A330. I was pleasantly surprised the day before my flight to see the aircraft change again to one of the last Asiana 747-400 upper deck business class! I was more excited than I was initially! So you never know!

She is a true beauty. I can remember as a small boy going to Sydney Airport to meet or farewell people and the butterflies I would get in my stomach from excitement on seeing, smelling the jet fuel and the roar of the jet engines experienced just from the car park. I still experience those butterflies today as a grown man. The beautiful B747 must surely have a place in nearly everyone's heart. She has flown billions of us, billions of kilometres safely and graciously around the world. She didn't gain the title "Queen of the skies" simply because of her size, it is deserved because of many reasons, her size, beauty, power and reliability, just some that come to mind.

The flights remain with me as much as the time I spent away. From memory it cost just under AUD 1000 in the late 70s. I still have the ticket. A similar flight can now be done for so much less in real terms. These days it's business class for me only. But wow what a plane and how the crew loved it as much as the passengers.

Great vid. I was on seat 1A for this flight. It was my first time at the front of a 747 and loved it. There's not nearly as much engine sound up the front. Which for a short flight like this wasn't ideal, but on longer legs would make the flight much more bare able. But the sound of the front landing gear retracting and extending was immense!
Great experience. Sad to see the 747 retiring.

I was fortunate enough to fly on VH-OJU in the upper deck from Brisbane-LA and back. Having flown in the main deck many times, this felt like a different aircraft altogether. A flight in 747SP VH-EAA from Brisbane to Sydney was a treat. As much as I love Boeing aircraft the disarming of the blinds on the 787s by the crews is a pet hate of mine. Another great video, Paul. By the way, you wrote SYD-MEL and SYD-BNE! Do you think the GoPro 8 is worth buying by a 5 Black owner?

I remember the first time I flew on a 747 - 400 back in 2011 from Los Angeles, California to New York, JFK (I'm only 15) it was a flight I wouldn't have thought would be so special. I flew this same flight from LA to New York another 3 times and since this was return flights I got to fly the queen a total of 8 times which from my perspective is quite special BUT in 2018 I flew the queen for the 9th and final time EVER!!! THIS was a return flight from LA to New York but on the return flight it was a 787-9 dreamliner unfortunately since I had already been flying for 20 hours on the way TO New York ( i started in Adelaide, SA) before the 747 was a tiring and draining final flight and every time I recall falling to sleep and waking up somewhere over the north eastern states of America just before descending so I never really got the full experience that way BUT since my last 747 - 400 flight from LA to New york was only a couple of years ago i knew and made sure that i took in the full 747 experience. I remember relaxing looking out the window on a clear summer afternoon looking at Las Vegas in the far distance and thinking "wow this is it, this is the last flight on this plane ever". I know this was a long story but it expresses my love of aviation and the queen of the skies 😍😥

So sad to see these beautiful 744's being retired considering how much life is still in them. I have many fond memories of the Queen of the skys my first 747 flight was on BOAC Sydney to London Heathrow in 1972. I wish I could get excited about the new generation long haul jets like the a380, 787 or A350 I think they just lack the character the 747 had

WOuld love my boys to travel on one as well, but sadly that may never be the case. We are travelling on an Airbus A380 in May to LAX so that will be an experience...

Am sincerely going to miss the -438 ERs, there weren’t many worldwide, they were still so young and the airframe is so well validated from a safety perspective while the composites of the 787 are still to achieve this. Additionally, there are no trailing edge flaps around as awe inspiring as the huge triple slotted devices on the 747 :-) She was truly _engineered_ with multi-redundancy in mind... and has definitely proven herself :-) which legacy I hope can pass into the veins of upcoming designs...

Video quality was noticeably improved. The GoPro was worth the investment.
With so many people walking around taking pictures etc. I could also sense some of the crew were getting frustrated at the situation, however. Can't blame em though - they only had a few minutes to do their work for this short flight! However, I have no regrets at all positioning in for this flight. Got to access the flight deck after landing too! :)

I've had quite a few flights on the 747s & all of them were great. Little things like the extra space right down the back next to the toilets - excellent for stretching your legs on a long flight. The incredibly soft landings. My favorite plane for economy long haul until the A380 came along.

Great video. I remember, must have been early 1970 I went to check out the first Pan Am 747 ever to land in Dallas Fort Worth and arrived at the airport just in time for it to fly directly over me on landing. So huge! I then went to the ramp where it parked and got to go inside. It was on a demonstration flight before any were available for passenger service. A memory to last a lifetime. It always seemed to me like the 747 should be one of those things that last forever if you know what I mean.

About 25 years ago, sitting in an aisle in the middle block, en route to USA. Lights out, everybody asleep except me, when an FA came down the aisle on all fours. I asked if she had lost something, and it was a piece of jewelry. As I had a Maglite torch, I helped with the search and found the missing item. She was quite happy and I went to the Galley for a coffee. While we were chatting, a narrow door opened and an FA came out of an elevator - which I discovered went to a Galley below! Nicely done video Paul. Respectful.

Brilliant Paul, I always enjoy your vlogs but essentially this one. One of my first ever long haul flights was on a China Airlines 747 in business class (we found a deal online) from Schiphol to Bangkok Don Mueng. As the plane was almost landing I watched a man putt his golf ball in the hole on the golf course adjoining the airport and I remember thinking why is this still in the sky when it appeared to be travelling so slowly. The the Queen of the skies then kissed the runway for the smoothest landing I have ever had. 747 legend.
Thanks for the vlog and for reviving the memory.
