His shop is back in service again after the renovations. I was just in Hong Kong last week and bought a handmade mahjong set from him (as a gift to my parents). They are exquisitely done and you can see the expert workmanship in each tile. A set is not cheap. I paid about $600 USD for the handmade mahjong set
I was wondering how much a set cost. Thanks for that. I use to play with my Grandma and I feel like I would be willing to shell out 600 to get a set that will probably never be handmade ever again for future generations. I know Jewish grandma's also love it so I don't think it would ever lose value!
Came here because of the snafu that was the MahJong Line. How can we support this master artisan and his master craft instead?? I'd love to buy a set from him if possible!
The heart and spirit of craftsmanship this master has literally made me cry. I don't know how to describe it to other people that may not get it. There is something about his joy, dedication and resolve as a craftsman that feels kindred to me. My emotions definitely caught me off guard with this one lol
@@jamesspencer899 Sorry for this very late reply. I did not get around to asking his contact details, I was too star-struck. hehehehe. I do know that he always has several sets already completed at any time.
I'll have to stop by next time I go to Hong Kong. I wonder if he does ox bone-bamboo. I have one such hand mate set but it would be nice to know the maker.
@@paulnonatuse.bautista1294 thank you! I'll visit next time I visit Hong Kong. Hope he will still be around. I want to make a few custom tiles to decorate my workspace!
If I see an artists I want to be artist If I see a dancer I want to be dancer If I see an athletes I want to be one And so on. I want to be everything. But I'm nothing.
Traditionaly, are made of bamboo and bones, but those from the videos look to be made of some kind of plastic, there's some options of plastic used on mahjong sets on internet like, PET, nylon, celluloid, etc.
Don't think this was click baiting, it says the last mahjong makers emphasis on makers and not maker. But I gotta say I didn't pay atrnetion the first second I read it and also read it as the last mahjong maker instead of makers...
I didn't know mahjong carving was still done today. Incredible to see its still done and the passion he has for it!

Every saturday I'd walk past his stall in Jordon. I always stare for a few seconds to admire the craftsmenship. Truely talented work.

Glad to see there are still others making the tiles by hand and keeping the tradition alive! Thanks for the video as well!
"if you fail tomorrow try again the next day" yep it hits me hard this days because of the pandemic, but ill still try and try until i succeed.
Nice man. Met him last January and bought a small set from him. Not sure though if the small sets are also hand-carved.
Hey Paul...does he have an email by chance? Like him to make me a set.
