- This is your complete guide to the advanced variant of Hong Kong style mahjong, played with points. There is a lot to learn, but I've tried to make it as concise as possible, covering all the actions, tiles and hands that award points.
SECTIONS:
00:34 - Part 1: Introduction to points
01:30 - Part 2: Actions with points
02:55 - Part 3: Tiles with points

Babe wake up. Mahjong Sparrow dropped a new vid
Yay the smoothest voice of mahjong is back with another fire video 🔥🔥🔥
This is the best HK points video out there !
Very clear and comprehensive video for anyone learning how to play with points!
I’ve been waiting for this video. I have a group of 12 friends who followed your first video. Sooooo explicit! Best video so far. Now they are ready for an advanced video. Thank you!
Thanks to you and your friends for watching, happy playing!
this is such a great video im gonna show it to my mahjong club
FINALLY a (relatively) clear explanation of HK Mahjong scoring. Was trying to follow the "official" MJ Competition Rules published online but it was hard to understand. Great work!
MCR is more designed for advanced players.
This is literally everything I ever wanted in an HK style mahjong scoring primer.
Appreciate your kind words!
I’ve had to watch so many different videos to try to get this information. Finally all the information in one video 🙌🏼. Thanks so much for the clear explanation.
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful!
Just in time when I need it Thank you for making these, they are FANTASTIC value and great production!
Bless you!
One of the most awaited videos on RUclips !!! Finally ! …(Brilliant, thank you!)
Very useful video, simply explained!
He’s back🗣️🗣️🗣️ This was so easy to understand and helpful!!
Brilliant thank you 🙏
Thank you Laoshi, I’m a mahjong expert now
the transitions are so clean bruh 😩
This video plus the basic one are super clear of the explanation with smooth accent! Thanks very much for making them! My friends like them! And I can play it in the Lunar New Year 🎉!! Yay!
I heard seven pairs come from USA. I heard some place in Japan it was called « America » when they adopted this hands.
Also many regional rules among china (especially where people start to play mahjong very early) doesn’t recognize this hand.
Also It doesn’t look like any other 4*3+2 structures.
About nine gates, shall we mention that many people are kind of scared of this hand because it will burn down all your luck or some years of your life 😅.
i like ur way of explaining this game!
Such a great video! If you have a mixed one suit hand that has honor tiles worth +3 and your honor tiles happen to be a pung of dragons, do you add an additional +1?
Great video! So clear and easy to understand. Could you make a video explaining how to pay the winners based on the points?
Thanks! Maybe in the future if there is strong demand for this, as I do not want to encourage or perpetuate mahjong's stigmatic associations with gambling
Well done! Thank you.
Having my first mahjong game this week…. Can’t wait to fail and have fun
Having fun is the most important part!
Awesome! Best comprehensive how to play and score HK mahjong videos. Rekindled childhood memories. I have shared them with families. Questions: Self draw - everyone pays the winner, while a player who discarded the winning tile only pays the winner correct? What is the scoring rule when a player (player A) discarded a tile that helps another player (player B) to make either 9 tiles or 12 tiles showing then later self draw for the win? Does player A pay for everyone? Thank you
Thanks! And to your question - Yes, especially for 12 shown tiles, if you would like to play with penalties.
Awesome video. Does Hong Kong scoring use any knitted or knitted + honors hands? Those took me by surprise when playing mainland competition scoring.
I think you can only rob a Gong if the player is completing a Pung, not when a player declares a closed Gong.
This video is excellent! So clear and easy to follow, thank you! I had a question - if no one has a winning hand by the time you reach the dead wall, is the round over? Or can you draw the tiles from the dead wall?
So this depends on house rules. We usually play until the very last wall tile and discard, and if no one wins by then, it is a draw game and the dealership moves on.
Clear Voice Good Graphics I Like
That windicator looks huat!
nice video
What is defrent between double and poin?
Cooool
I got lost at the wind directions. Why don't they correspond to a typical compass?
Hi, the Winds can be confusing, best not to think of them relating to a traditional Western compass. Your Seat Wind is always relative to the dealer. The dealer is always East; if you follow the dealer, you are always South; if you are across from the dealer, you are always West; and if you're left of the dealer, you are always North. Hope this helps!
The way I heard it explained is that in Chinese culture the order of directions from first to last is East, South, West, North (compared to the order North, South, East, West that is used in Western culture.) Then you’re just applying each direction counterclockwise from the dealer around the table. It won’t match up with true compass directions so don’t worry too much about it.
@@MahjongSparrow This does help. This is also incredibly interesting on a worldview level. I have encountered different conceptions of time and different understandings of how to find your way and the meaning of them - but this was making my head split. Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated.
@@djYuz I replied to Mahjong Sparrow, but I also have you to thank. Now to find three people to play in my neck of the woods.
I don't know if it's true but it can kinda make sense. I think I read in a book somewhere where it may have been considered a "heavenly" game. So the explanation I got was that if you were laying on your back looking up at the sky the directions make sense.
Thank for clear video explanation of the points sytem for the resppective winning combinations. However I am a bit puzzled with the below basic winning combination points
The first video link awards 1 point and the second awards 0 for the same winning tiles.
ruclips.net/video/qVQyV7OMWdA/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/qVQyV7OMWdA/видео.html
Please can you clarify the point differences in the two video clips links. Both video clip show the same set of winning tiles which are all consective triplets without any honor tiles
So it's important to understand that all the points referenced are added points, and not absolute values, hence why there is always a + sign before each point reference. The Common hand in question from your 2 links is a combination of +1 for structure, and +0 for suit, therefore the total for such a hand in this instance would be 1 point. Remember, points are always cumulative. Hope this helps.
You explained too fast , but thank you for teaching us the points.😇
Thanks for watching! There is a lot of info, and I didn't want to make the video tooooooo long, but hopefully a few replays and pauses will help make it more digestible
