Watching Gunbuster and Diebuster back to back was an amazing experience. And seeing the connections between them lead to me having one of the biggest pop off experiences I've had with anime. Loved every second of each.
Hope you guys are able to get to Diebuster at some point whether here or a different show. Aim for the Top!

Shout out to Bob who made me realize there was a bluray for the OVAs like a month ago, so I bought them right away. I watched this years ago and it blew my mind, one of the absolute best.

I think doing a video on "Dead Leaves", the 50min length movie that is the first project directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, wouldbe really great, as for me it kinda is the "gunbuster" of imaishi, where we can see the blueprint of Gurren Lagann, Panty and Stockings, Kill la Kill and mostly Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Rick Sternbach was the link between 80s anime (mostly Dirty Pair) and STNG.
The whiplash of going from one story type to another is VERY 80s. The sheer scope of it is pure Gainax.

at like 5:30 the talk of a character who has the same kind of hair wings and high widows peak reminded me of Gamlin from Macross 7
The widows peak character from yyh I think is the guy hiei kills with the darkness flame. Someone let me know if there was someone else
or the clown dude without the makeup. He kinda sorta looks like smith a bit.

I just shotgunned Gunbuster this afternoon and I have too many words on multiple subjects to focus on one. My brain is too acclimatized to Gainax/Trigger that I didn't even blink at at how we went from school to space academy to terrifying skirmish. Also I saw coach and my brain went to a dude from Orguss.
My brother bought that older Blu-Ray and, really, you do not have to worry about WeeaBoomers being a "bad" introduction when the official release came out in that state.
Watched the series halfway through this podcast. Rad little, yet cosmically large scaled, series
