It was only when GøT catapulted him into stardom and he experienced genuine love from fans, as well as from his co-actors, that he managed to embrace his new life in the spotlight. So there. It wasn't him being a dick, Peter simply wasn't able to cope yet at this point with his popularity. Again, can you really blame him? Watch all the Comic Cons he attended afterwards, and you'll see the difference.
