Insurance claims officer “ Sir could you once again please explain to me about this regulation standard heat shield you fitted to the wooden wall” 😂😂😂
I am thinking of getting one to heat my garage/workshop and what you have just shown us it makes perfect sence to use one.
Go for it!
I have now 2 diesel heaters heating my home one for ground floor, and another upstairs, But they are mounted outside and ducted into house and back out, to recycle air, not heat freezing air. For Ground floor heater is in a steel cabnet waterproof fireproof and insulated with power supply and battery in cabnet with heater. The exhaust exiting under cabnet and combustion intake also under cabnet, thanks to your video saying about the smoke that filled your van. Fuel tank tap filter and dosing pump are all outside, So no chance of smell or sound entering house, pump is in a small torpedo shaped container for electric extentions IP65.
Upstrairs was a different problem, for this I used a 50cm steel ammo box, £30 ebay, with a top lid and rubberised seal, mounted under my bedroom window for easy access. fire-proof insulatd, only other thing this box is heater, but there was room for a power supply unit. all my wiring and fuel line exiting through return duct. The fuel delivery is via a boat fuel tank that can be removed for refueling outside via a Johnson no leak connector £36 all in, tank hidden in sliding walldrobe, so far no smell. this job is easier for me as I live in a wooden house, so all done with a hole saw and the ducting is covered with fireproof foam . So now I am ready when my energy fixed tarriff ends in march!.
PS I should say 'm useing kerosene in my heater at about £1.10 to £1.20 per ltr at moment. Next project is a ERG cooler fitted to exhaust of heater to run a radiater. Thanks to andyfireblades, free heat RUclips video for idea
It works well to heat a house! we have it on the outside of the wall (in an old airco case) and it is much cheaper that the one we have on butane (and much less problems with moister. When the neighbour is a farmer so you have red diesel available, it's even cheaper! (the room warmed up with it is 7x4 meters (3 meter high walls, 2 windows). Works perfect!!!!
Yep works well heating a house , not super hot but comfortable enough at about 18 degrees ,. Put them outside , They run great on Kero which for me works out at about 10p and hour .. I have 2 that are powered from my wee solar generator so I always have heat during a power cut . Also spares really cheap and the kit itself is easy to repair and clean ,
Great video ! I Just heard today a friend has fitted one of these in his workshop but His exhaust is attached to one of the old Iron radiators before it goes outside for more heat gain
Hi Mel, great video as always. Just letting you know we live in a log cabin in the West Highlands and have two diesel heaters warming the cabin. We have been running the exhaust out through the multi burner flue and have had no issues. We also use two carbon monoxide sensors.
That is awesome!
brilliant - I think that MaxSpeedingRods just do not want to give out 'non-standard' advice, and then get blamed for amateurs dicing with death in DIY setting...how many tens of thousands of country houses are heated by fuel oil, which is very close to diesel?
On the 4th year with my heater in a 2 bed static caravan,
@@MyMy-tv7fd I even run my diesel heater on the home heating oil, kerosene, in my van and hut.
Hi Mel, I have a diesel heater fitted in my workshop for around 3 years now, I decided to run mine from a leisure battery with a charger connected just incase I have a power cut or trip a fuse while working in my shop, As you know these heaters need to cool shut down and by running them from the 240v mains a power cut could cause damage to a hot heater that has not gone through its shut down cycle.
Another great video Mel, keep it going boy on your descriptions of things and you explain really nicely clearly and people can understand what you say. Well done. Keep going
Much appreciated thank you 🙏
Wow Mel! What a fantastic place and a community for like-minded folk! So nice to see such a merry bunch!!!
It really is!
i use that exact model to heat my lounge. It's in a box outside with the heat via a 80mm hole with the pip and ventfront coming through. It heats the lounge and the heat goes upstairs. It's saved me a fortune in Gas.
Hi mel, might be a good idea to cover the hole where the exhaust runs through the wall to stop any fumes being blown back inside the building...
You want to stop vermin coming through the hole also
Hi Mel , my mate has one fitted in his workshop , and drilled hole in wall for outlet works very well and keeps it Toastie 👍👍
Cool 👍
Hi Mel, I live in a small flat and use a diesel heater, I use a battery to run the heater and a charger to keep the battery charged up you may ask yourself why do i do it that way ? well if at any point we have a power cut my heater will keep running and i can safely turn it off and as you know the heater needs time to cool down before shutting down.
I have one for use in home. Not in position to house outside, only exhaust. I used a ceramic wrap and blanket to isolate exhaust pipe heat.
The wrap gets lukewarm, doesn't singe.
Nice 👍
I run an all-in-one heater in my garden hut using a "regulated Switching Power Supply rated 12V 30A 360W" that cost me £22 on the bay of E's a couple of years ago. It's been working fine and has screw-down terminals to connect the 12v wires of a normal heater to.
Very interesting. And fair play teaching the young lady 👍
Thank you kindly
Maxpeedingrods adaptor is out of stock and I’ve been waiting for it to be back instock your lucky as hell to have got one
If you have power cut will it shut down properly ?????
No it won't, it would need battery backup for that 👍
Red diesel can still be used for these heaters under the new rules as they come under heating fuel, but not site tools anymore. you will need to sign a form to that effect.
ive installed two 5kw max speeding rods diesel heaters at my dads house one at the front and one at the back keeps his house so warm for a fraction of the cost of gas
Hi Mel, do you have enough room at the back of the heater for air to get into the unit.
Hi Mel thanks for the video I was thinking of installing one in my garage can you recommend one similar to the one in the video many thanks
,. Bit of the wall Mel, I have Chinese diesel heater fitted in my motorhome, my problem is I can't see the fuel level as the tank is built in the unit, can't get the cover off as it's fitted against the wall and can't get to the screws. When I refill it flows over the cap so constantly got smell of diesel from the spillage. Question to you is it possible to fit larger fuel tank to the door and run a tube into the tank fitted inside the heater, so it becomes like a feeder tank to the heater unit and easier for me to see the fuel tank level and refill. Also any clues for getting the parts and how to do it. Hope you can help ❤️👍 cheers ant
I’d say just be careful when you filling it sorry 😞
Hello Mel.
Would be nice to see a video on running costs.
Might as well be white diesel as reds the same price I think..
👍🏽
Hi Mel great video as always notice the clock that you are using for your 12-volt adaptor is a Chinese plug not sure it's got a few if it doesn't state it's got a fuse in it they are illegal to use in the UK also they can catch fire why they are illegal to use in the UK. If you can check it please be very grateful.
Oh you could be rite there thank you 🙏
@@BigVanSmallWorld hi Mel no problem at all just don't want you god forbid burning the building down it will say on the inside of the plug where the metal prongs are if it has a fuse and also you will see it has a slot of course
Great video ❤happy new year from Australia 😊🚐🙏
G Day Happy new year to you too 👍🤓👍
I am thinking about buying one to heat my tent, but I think that ticking noise would not allow me to fall asleep. Does it bother you to hear that in your van?
Hey Mel blast from the past !! Jay from mollys car breakers !! Great videos mate 👍
Hello buddy 👍🤓👍
The exhaust of a diesel heater gets really hot so your wall is still in serious risk of charring because there's not enough material dispersing the heat. I'd personally use a standard exhaust insulation jacket instead.
I was wondering how close you'd get that to the wall with that AC plug hanging out the back of the heater.
Excellent, quick comment for the algorithms 😊
Thanks for that!👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld your welcome 🤗
How long did it take to burn up since you mounted the fresh air intake DIRECTLY AGAINST THE WALL?! Theres a combustion intake and a fresh air intake in the back of the machine and you jammed it flush with the wall
Oh no i didn’t there’s a good 4 inch gap between the wall and the are intake I’m not stupid
Posted this in reply below but I thought it might be worth repeating.
I'd be inclined to run the inlet and the exhaust for the burner outside with a good degree of separation, otherwise you could depressurise the room you are heating and suck the exhaust fumes back in.
If you are in a confined space like a shed with just the exhaust piped externally then it would be sucking air into the heater and blowing it outside causing negative pressure in the shed.
If the wind was for example blowing the exhaust against or under the floor of the shed it would be sucked back inside as sheds aren't known for being airtight.
With both routed outside there is no pressure differential so it's far less likely to be a problem.
You’re overthinking it buddy
I wouldn’t worry about it cedley, it’s Mel, you know he’s as rough as a Badgers @rse 😂
@@BigVanSmallWorld yeah and like the kid said' it would be a great way to go 😂
True cedley
The combustion intake needs to be outside but not for a pressure related issue. It needs to be outside because it’s connected directly to the combustion chamber, if it back feeds or malfunctions which I’ve seen happen to a lot of people exhaust gasses come flooding out the filter.
The air intake for the combustion changer is to be outside as well. The room intake fan and opening is at the side that is about an inch from then wall, which should be okay. The warmer air from the inside of the heated room to use for combustion will make the mixture not right.
Great video Mel 👍Hate to burst your bubble but if that heater/PSU fails upon full speed on 240v power fail then the heater circuitry will be fried 🔥 additional 'UPS' may help!
You can definitely put them in a property. One thing though. Ensure the exhaust is well away from the fair intake incase of flame out and equally install a Co monitor
Hi it's been mentioned before here. But if you could show that wall plug that came with the transformer, and let everyone know that they should look out for them. They should not use them, as they don't have a fues in them and are not a proper UK plug. I would question any device that has one, if the wall plug isn't safe what does it say for the rest of it. At best cut the plug off and wire a new one on.
Probably more danger from the transformer burning the barn down than the exhaust.
Hi Mel, I was thinking of coupling one to a tumble drier. This would leave the electrics to just run the motor. In the winter they are so useful but so expensive to run. What do you reckon? Richard.
Great idea
Hi, how did it do heating that space ?
Brilliant it’s was warm in no time
Off topic but curious how much it cost to occupy a space at a barn

Great vlog bud. Your always genius when it comes to these sort of things. Brilliant bud. Be a nice place to work 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
@@BigVanSmallWorld 🤗
I am sure chrome has one in his workshop good job
Have you actually costed how much they cost to run per BTU’s? Drip feeding diesel at the costs of either Red diesel or not PLUS how much current it draws via the mains? Much cheaper to use an infra red panel heater!
On the lowest setting they use 0.16 ltr an hour
The mains plug on the transformer is one of those very Iffy *Unfused* Chinki things. Might wanna change that.
Its imperative that you have a battery hooked up as well just in case of power cuts, these things have a tendency to catch fire if the Diesel heater doesn't go thru the proper cool down stage
A UPS
Hi Mel , what's the deal with the The Chicken Shack , ie. What contribution,s etc. Great idea l did something similar in the 70s with like minded artist , photographer's, designers etc. Great vid by the way .
Thank you 🙏 for more information on the workshop contact Adrian Jones ade68jones@gmail.com
Great stuff mate
I use two of them to heat my home!
Top vlog. Thanks 👍
I think that MaxPeedingRods just do not want to give out 'non-standard' advice, and then get blamed for amateurs dicing with death in a DIY setting...how many tens of thousands of country houses are heated by fuel oil, which is very close to diesel? And even if the exhaust does not leak, if the air intake is inside the building then it is taking in oxygen, so there are more variables to consider than just carbon monoxide.
Hi Mel. Wondering if u could help I have spent a small fortune on getting a Chinese D heater fitted to my t5.1.but still having no heating. Had it fitted professionally cost me £500. But they wouldn't stand by it because it was Chinese. It then worked sort of then had a fuel line leek and power problem so It wouldn't turn off.
I'm in Bedfordshire.
Keep up the groove content the both of u. Thanks Russell 🧡
Sorry for sounding thick Mel , but would that heater run from my central heating oil tank ? Nice vlog mate .
Yeah I’m sure it’s possible
The boy in Valley calendar hes doing his workshop
👍
It has an exhaust so common sense says install outside and vent inside. No company can say it's fine to do so in case of death.
The heater in this video is sold out but this one is the same just a different case amzn.to/3GYtSaG
12V AC DC Power Adapter for diesel heaters amzn.to/3j5y5RD
Maxspeed just covering their arse,I've nah problems with it aslong as the exhaust is correctly put outside.
Wot about the big hole mel. Cuz its big for mice and rats to get in
Plenty of people
Heat house with them.
You won't fall asleep with that pump clicking.....
I would hope not I may burn my dinner 👍😂👍
Jeez someone needs to sort that 240v cable on the wall!!!! 🤦♂️
That 3 pin plug that is connected to the wall socket is not UK compliant and quite dangerous as it has no fuse!! Also I would say there is a danger that some could just plug a mains "kettle" lead directly into the unit sending 240V AC where only 12V DC is expected. These seems to be a very bad design to use this type of plug on the unit.
Does the plug have a fuse? .... A lot of hoverboard fires were linked to chargers with clover-style mains plugs, Like your power supply had in the video. They were a Chinese design that didn't have a fuse!
This really requires an answer as to just why not Mel. A 'not recommended' is not enough. The workshop you are installing it in has more flammable walls than any average house.
Installed one in my kitchen under the worktop. Exhaust goes directly outside through the wall. As far as I know there is no record of a diesel heater causing a fire in a vehicle, workshop or house, nor any carbon monoxide poisoning. If you are happy using one in a camper overnight why not one in a house? Look at your common gas boiler, lot of heat and a lot of carbon monoxide there and bum boiler installations have killed a lot of people. BTW a fully functional diesel heater has negligible CO, and if your heater has a problem it will shut itself off. They are EXACT copies of the Eberspacher and came on the market the day after the patent expired.
Thanks for sharing that’s really appreciated
I'd be inclined to run the inlet and the exhaust for the burner outside with a good degree of separation, otherwise you could depressurise the room you are heating and suck the exhaust fumes back in.
I see what you're saying but as Mel pointed out in previous videos his exhaust did leak Inside his van, jubilee clips won't make a gas tight seal I am sure, air intake are supposed to be outside, what are the purpose of these units if they can't be used indoors I have always wondered maybe it would have been better fitted in an external box then the heater ducting in through the wall from outside ?
@@simonrichardson5203 The exhaust was sealed with a special high temperature silicone. Air intake is inside, as you don't want to be heating air that's at minus 4 degrees as it was last week.
@Michael Pollard if the power fails the room will fill with smoke you never do whats done here trust me it's a cowboy set up
Bung that hole in the wall with wire mesh or something, perfect way in for rats.!
Dangerous installation! If the wind is blowing in the direction of the exhaust, because you haven’t sealed the large tin can sleeve, the wind could blow the exhaust gases back though the tin cans back into the workshop.
The Geezer is obsessed with diesel heaters!
Yeah especially when it’s -5 outside
It's for the views on RUclips boring old content now
