    I’m not saying Stihl is the best just because Its my personal favorite; but they are hand forged in Valhalla with Thor’s own hammer.

      I agree. My grandpa 070 is still being used today despite it being 40 years of age. I hope I can get one of those in the video because its not available in my country. I heard they are more stable than the old contact point chainsaws.

    A real beast of a Stihl and a damn bad ass great saw is the Stihl MS361, which is probably the best all rounder (for large to small stuff) Stihl chainsaw ever made. Any other viewers out there that maybe agree....??.

    Bought one recently with the 32” bar and full skip chain. Cut tons of Sugar Gum with it. Always starts, hot or cold. And yes, I do use the decomp valve... Not for limbing, but bucking the big stuff is a breeze. I think my left bicep grew 2” this summer. ;-)

    I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

One thing is for sure, I wouldn't give up rats @$$ about any trolls. There's no telling how many people you may have just helped. A 661 was the most recent addition to my toolbox and I would argue it's the best stock saw on the market. Anyone can mod a saw up and make it crazy, but out of the box this saw is amazing. If you're felling big wood it's a must have. Second must have....a 362 (or a 361...just doesn't have all the tech). You'll never need anything else.

    Bought the 661 for use with my alaskan saw mill. Had 4 huge oak trees we milled. A beast of a saw. Playing around with different chain types and bar lengths. Real happy so far. But I need a full on band saw mill for this negative cash flow hobby. LOL.

    Just bought my new MS 661 w/36" bar a coupla months ago from Garnetts in Hartselle, AL to add to my Stihl line up. Love would be an understatement. This saw is poetry in form, design and performance. Simply bad to the bone. Compliments my 034 AV and MS 250 quite nicely.

    Great video. I have a MS660 with a 36" bar I use for big stuff. I had to install the high output piston and control bolt in the oiler pump when I got it to oil the 36" bar like I wanted it to. The stop pin on the 661 allows the control bolt to rotate more and give the piston a bigger stroke. I was considering upgrading but I'm old and don't like manhandling those big saws anymore. My MS441RCM or MS362RCM will do 90% of my firewood work.

    Thanks Human. A great presentation informative with detail for Stihl MS 661 C-M unit. Love the last bit...! Grunt! Love:)! Currently operating vintage Stihl 038 Magnum purchased in 1995 with 24 inch bar and tungsten chain. Love it with care for 25 years. Need bigger stuff. Human you have been very informative in regards to MS 661 performance and I am in consideration to purchase this unit at AU$2300 for cutting big Australian aged Red Gum. Hard as granite. Will a tungsten chain be a good investment for this unit during my purchase? Want to cut big stuff old and hard seasoned dead 50 year old Australian Red Gum wood 1 metre wide + and more for firewood.
    Silhl MS 661 C-M looks great for super big jobs.
    My current Stihl Magnum 038 is still doing well in 2020 with tungsten chain and with care plus respect!

    So, I'd like to get a 661 but am concerned w/ the idea of putting electronics in the chainsaw. E.g., costly repairs. Also, like one poster noted that the saw should run idle for 30 secs before shutting off so the capacitor can charge for the micro-controller to function properly. Something like that seems to me a little finicky so I think to myself what else am I going to have to deal with? In your opinion, do the benefits of having the electronics really outweigh the costs?

    • @Human1337
      @Human1337  7 лет назад +1

      To date I've not had any issues with it, though I'm sure everyone is correct in that if a carb issue did arise, it would be more expensive to repair. As to the idling of it before shutting it off, something I've never done, and have never had an issue starting it, hot or cold. So far, I'm very happy with it, same with my mtronic 201t, my works 261, and my demo T540, all are running great.
      One note though, the stihl manual recommends 89 octane minimum, and the 261 hates the 87 octane my boss buys, runs great with my fuel though (93 octane)

    I recently bought a Stihl MS 661 CM Magnum by accident (complicated story so I'll spare everyone the details) and I'm pretty pissed off because I wanted the MS 661 R instead! My reasoning is that I don't like the idea of having electronics in a chainsaw. My question is for those that have the CM, What is your experience with your saw and has the electronics caused you any problems. I'm thinking of getting rid of it or possibly giving it a chance.

    I got one of these a couple months ago with 3/4 wrap and 32" bar. 3/8-.050 RS chain. My dogs look different than yours. I picked up a SugiHara lightweight bar and it is handier but a little more flexible when horizontal. I only have 5 tanks through it so far but real good power. Nice job felling that rotted tree! I have my oiler set just past my sunken stop pin and it oils good there.

    • @Human1337
      @Human1337  8 лет назад

      Nice! I bet that sugihara bar really helps with the balance, pretty nose heavy with the standard bar that I have on mine.

    • @Mr42960
      @Mr42960 8 лет назад

      Just a touch nose heavy at 32" now, much better. I hear the Stihl light bars are actually a tad lighter than the Sugi's. Maybe your 36 will be good. It's all about setting these babies down in the wood though! They are about weightless when they are cutting. I love mine too, real engineering demonstrations. Good luck and be safe.

    Awesome video. Thanks for the informative steps you took in showing off your saw. I just purchased a 661 myself and haven't gotten a chance to run it yet. I can't wait to try her out. She is a sexy beast. Sexy yet very intimidating. I think I will name mine "Martha".

    Actualy, there is another difference between the old 660 and the 661, the 660 had a piston diameter of 54mm, and a piston stroke of 40mm, and the 661 has a 56mm piston and a piston stroke of 37mm. looks like they changed the Engine proportion to optimize some of the characteristics, iam not exactly sure how this affects the output performance, but it defenitly does in some ways. but i found this out after i got my MS 661 C-M. If you wanne see me Milling Trees with this Saw you can check out my Channel. but nice Video, keep on the good work.

    My ms661c took a crap on me in the middle of dropping an oak tree. I had to finish the cut with my undersized ms250. That was only the fourth time I used and it let me down. It would not start, no spark, the coil cost $100.00. Will this happen every fourth time I use it. They must be made in China now like everything else.

    Just found out something about the oiler on these saws. to get the high out put you have to take the oiler out(kinda of a pain in the ass) and take out the pin. it's a drift pin.....pull it out and you can turn up the volume. I tried to push it in while mounted in the saw but couldn't. hope this clears up some confusion about it

    • @Human1337
      @Human1337  7 лет назад

      I just took a small drift pin and tapped it in gently, seemed to work well.

    • @347firedude
      @347firedude 7 лет назад

      +Human well......that seems way...way easier than what I did. tried to tap it in but it seemed to not be moving........prior army so I guess I have to do it the hard way

    • @Human1337
      @Human1337  7 лет назад

      lol, right there with you, prior navy, fix it till it breaks! I tried just pushing it in, wasn't happening that way, why I grabbed a small punch and small hammer. Didn't beat on it hard, just gave it a few taps and it seemed to go in smoothly.

    After all these years running big Husq's and I STIHL dont know how to understand their line of saws. Does it not make sense to use the displacement in CC in the model of the saw like Husq does?

    • @apaullo2115
      @apaullo2115 Год назад

      Yeah that would make sense, but generally the first number is roughly about the displacement, and if the second number is a 6 it means it's a pro forestry saw that's a bit easier to work on in the woods if you absolutely had to. But new ones like the 400 confuse that by being a pro saw with a 0 as the second number so I guess it doesn't make sense anymore

      Yes the 661 is heavy enough. Heavy is good though. The "Orange" brand are oddly lighter and to me that means less durable.

    • @AATreeService
      @AATreeService 7 лет назад

      Most orange chain saws are heavier than the competition even if the manual or spec sheet says differently! Put them on a scale, you will find out quick enough that both stihl and husky are somewhat untruthful with their weight specs

    • @Human1337
      @Human1337  7 лет назад

      I'm not entirely sure about that. Off the top of my head I'd think you'd probably have to get a different style side cover all together to get the captive nuts. Don't think they're interchangeable.
      and thanks =)

    Hey so I just bought one used. It is extremely hard to pull the chord even when pressing the decompression button. Am I doing something wrong? Yours seemed to pull relatively smoothly. I'm thinking there might be something wrong with the decompression. I can get it to fire without a bar and drop starting it but even that is pretty hard.

    So the switch always stays in the "on" position? Do you have to flick the lever to the very bottom to start or do some other wizardry? Otherwise it's like a gun with no safety and I'm sure they thought of something. I'm still so used to the 4-position lever.

    • @Human1337
      @Human1337  6 лет назад

      it stays in the middle, you push it up to kill it, and push it down to put it in the start setting.
