  • Hey besties!
This week was a challenging one. There isn't enough time in the day or week to accomplish everything. Working full time and going to school full time is very challenging.
Who told me to pick up a night shift??? I don't know what i was thinking but never again!
Nurse practitioners are becoming very business savvy and I am here for it. This semester, my clinical rotation will be at an urgent care clinic, owned by a #nursepractitioner
Thank you all for watching! Thank you for your support!

I work night shift. I come home around 7am and climb into bed as my husband is heading out the door and sleep until our 4 yo wakes up. When she wakes up, we do homeschool and any errands/appts. Then as soon as my husband gets home, I run for the bed and sleep as much as I can before 9pm. Then I get ready, say good night to my baby girl and husband, and do it again. On weekends I sleep until 11:30-12pm, then we go do things as a family, then I lay back down around 5 and sleep for 4 more hours and then do it again. I prefer weekends because my husband is home which means more sleep for me… I’ll be 40 this year and it isn’t easy but we do it for our daughter’s sake. Keep up the fantastic work and good luck on your journey!

I started working nights in June. I signed an in house contract for weekends only for 6 months. They give a bonus every paycheck to do it.
I figured since I'll be giving up my weekends I might as well work the night shift and get that extra $6 per hour differential. Also, at my hospital, Friday nights are considered the weekend so if I really wanted a Saturday night off I could do it and still meet my requirements.
Night shift is hard on the body. Monday's are a total recovery day for me. Most times I do absolutely nothing. The pay equates to working 3 12 hour shifts. And it's not like I have a bustling social life on the weekends 😊
I love watching your videos ❤❤❤

I love night shift! I’m an MRI tech at a trauma center in Maryland and I work Sun, Mon and Tues nights. The key to successfully working nights is to keep the same sleep schedule even on your days off. Some people may find that difficult but it works for me. I’m in the bed everyday by 7:30 am and up no later than 4 pm. It’s as if I live in China. 😊

I love your videos! I'm here for the NP owning her own practice! I love to see NP practicing to the full scope of their practice and yes Maryland is a FPA state. I'm an NP in primary care in FL and I do just about everything my physician colleagues are doing in this setting. I don't see anything wrong with an NP owning and operating independently. She is providing a much needed service to her community and she is well educated to do so. I plan on owning my own practice in the future. The reason physicians give us push back is because of the revenue we are generating and the business we are " taking" from them. Keep up the great work Kendra you will make an excellent NP! 👏🏾

Loved hearing your perspective on the experience working night shift. I have been on nights over 20 years in the ED and I won’t/can’t do days. What I try to explain to people is that nights isn’t for everyone and there are some people like myself who are just night shift people. My disdain for waking up at 4:30 (night time) to drive to work in the dark is probably the same as yours for being up at night. My life just flows better working night shift. But, it’s a lifestyle too. Different strokes for different folks. 😂❤😂

Hi Kendra, it's always a delight to watch your videos. I've been working night shift for more than 20 years. It was convenient for the children then I just got used to it. I tried day shift years ago for 6 months when I was ER Tech and I couldn't make it because I'm claustrophobic, the crowd in rooms and halls was unbearable for me. I'm a bedside Nurse now in Med-Surg floor and still prefer my less crowded nights. To survive night shift you should find a good routine that works for you. I never feel sleepy at work when I follow my routine, I go to sleep at 11am after a shower and wake up at 6pm. With this routine my night is just like your day. Thank you Kendra for sharing your journey with us ❤ So proud of you.

I have a big question to you... as a nurse i am studying to became a RN. Here I work in the ER and I have been able to swift my shifts and havent done a night shift for almost a year... in the USA I can chose between morning-night shift? please answer me, this is such a big concern to me! Thank you a lot!

Hi, it depends on what’s available. Emergency rooms have so many different shifts. I’ve seen 11a-11p, 3p-3a, 7a-7p, 7p-7a. It just depends.

@@KendraRN Ohhh yes... the famous 495 beltway. I've lived in /worked in Northern VA + MD for the last 8 years as a nurse. You get used to it... but it doesn't take away from the frustration. Also, if you end up crossing the Potomac bridge into VA, be aware that it can become stressful, as people speed/ cut each other off / cause crashes, etc. Also, new-ish large construction projects are underway in the surrounding the areas, pop up / change on a regular basis, which even my GPS can't register sometimes. Toll rates are based on time of day and day of the week, whether you are on the express route or not. I think it was about a year ago where they did away with toll booths in most places around southern MD/ northern VA and required everyone to have an EZ pass in these areas. 66 in Northern VA has become a headache and expensive.
