    One of the nicest things about this video, (the first one I have watched from casual DIY), is that Tomas does not start off by asking for subscriptions and likes, BEFORE he has made his presentation; nor does he actualy ask at the end. That is very refreshing. Most people have seen a few youtube videos, and understand the liking and subscribing functions, as well as Patreon etc. Great job Tomas. The review shows the machine enough to help with my purchasing decision. I think it could have been better by actually planing a piece of wood of a given species, at a given cut depth, and showing the noise level in action. Otherwise 10 out of 10 for the vid. I have subscribed and look forward to watching more from this guy.

      Thank you kindly. But I have to confess to you, on some videos I do ask for those things. And to be perfectly honest with you I tend to forget to leave a like when I'm watching RUclips. The video just finishes and goes to the next one and I find myself forgetting to drop that like if I'm not reminded. Bit silly I know but I think there's more people like me 🤣👍
      Hey thank you for watching 👍

      @@CasualDIY I understand, and think I have been guilty of the same. I just would prefer to be asked at the end of a video, once I have had a chance to see the content first. I understand I think, how important it is for producers to have their work accredited in this way, but I personally only do so if it really has been worthy of praise. I want to support quality content, not just any content. There is a lot of mediocre content on YT, and I think that just liking everything you watch is not constructive. Producers should be given accurate feedback in order for this platform to work optimally. Again, great vid for me, and I will be checking out more of your work. I like your delivery style and wish you every success in growing your channel. Regards.

    Hi Tomasz good review well covered. The snipe issue occurs on lots of thicknessers, just cut the wood over size in length so you cut it off later.
    If you have a compressor keep blasting the area that's a problem with clogging now and again so it doesn't get chance to clog. Enjoyed Tony

      You mention that the Triton is, as I understand it, just as good as the Metabo. However, if you got to choose between them, which would you go for? Only based on price or does the Metabo actually have more features (as I have gathered from specs the Metabo support wider stock and have some features the Triton is lacking).

    Hi two suggestions about chips. 1. Have you tried opening up the slot inside the cover by packing a thin piece of wood under the sides where it's bolted to the machine to increase the size of the slot? 2 If you drilled a hole ( not to large, start small and increase slowly) in the end of the cover so that air would low in front the blind end this might clear any build up at the blind end. If it didn't work you could always close it with a piece of duct tape or plastic glued over the hole.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  4 года назад

      Not tried anything like that to be honest. I try not to mess about with machinery. But I may give it a go to see if it allow it for better chip extraction, thanks👍

    I just read the manual of the DH330: "The dust collector must comply with the following:
    − fitting the diameter of the dust extraction connector:
    − 64 mm or
    − 102 mm;
    − air flow volume ≥ 460 m3 /h;
    − vacuum at the dust extraction connector ≥ 530 Pa;
    − air speed at dust extraction connector ≥ 20 m/ s.
    Operation without a dust collector is only advisable:
    − outdoors;
    − for short-term operation (up to a maximum of 30 minutes);
    − when wearing a dust respirator.
    If no dust collector is used chips will built up inside the machine housing, and on the cutter knives in particular. These built-up chips cause the planed surface to become rough. Therefore the chips
    need to be removed periodically

The only thing that worries me is Triton runs off a normal plug, the metabois 16A and I keep seeing runs off a 16 amp plug. It ate all the wood i gave it. I was in doubt buying this or the dewalt competitor. I really think this machine is very underestimated.. DeWalt is really overprized in my opinion (when i bougt it a year ago in the Netherlands). And i worked with that DeWalt machine aswell. This Metabo is even more heavy and also well build for a lesser Prize.. i have had no problems with the extraction btw.. but i got a big dust extractor fitted to it. The knives are set and forget. When they are dull you turn them around and you can go again! The snipe is there, but you can manage it a little if you need to to that. Only downside i found that its very loud haha. But all in all great peice of equipment.

      None of them will go that low, I can't remember exactly but I think its about 1 cm. It should be in the description of the tool if you look it up online. However that is not a problem. Just put a board inside like a melamine chip board that is flat and slippery. then that will serve you as a new bed of the machine and will raise your material enough so you can do those thin pieces.

      ruclips.net/video/UurAyAOfzGs/видео.html
      You will get the best result if you choose a cutter that has blades set on an angle and the Shelix helical cutter has this. It is an expensive upgrade, but it makes a big difference and you will not need to replace the rotary cutter for many years, and remember each blade has four cutting edges. You can buy a helical cutter for your machine, but I haven't researched if Shelix makes one that will give best results. You may have to import. The angled blade also gives best results for wood that has a changing grain pattern. Good luck.

    Hi mate! Great video! I just got mine and after few hardwood boards the finish is not perfect. :/ Could it be that the knives are already dull? And when I try to plane boards bellow 2cm rollers seem to block and the board is not moving. Can you recommend a solution? Thank you!

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  2 года назад +1

      No the blades will not get dull that quick. Although don't expect finish like after sanding with grit 100. Take small shallow passes. Or the last pass make it just so it skims the board. That's how I get a decent looking board. I think there is a thickness limit on this machine, can't remember what it was tho. But I think it would be lower than 2cm. Try to put an extra board that will act as a new table. Best for that are melamine boards as they are "slippery" and flat. That should elevate the board you trying to sort out high enough. Hope this helps. Check the rollers if they are clean and not clough up with saw dust. Also check the tension belt, maybe its damaged or something.

    Was looking at this and the Triton, saw snipe issues with the Triton caused because the cutting head has the hight adjusted by two central screws. The Metabo is the same, but has that locking arm. Does that in your experience give a better stability to the cutting head reducing snipe, have you even experienced snipe with the Metabo?

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  3 месяца назад

      No difference to be honest and I almost never use the locking arm. Snipe will happen regardless on most machines. You can reduce it with correct technique and setup.

    • @royster3345

      @@CasualDIY Some snipe can be caused by the cutting head rocking when the wood leaves the front roller and is only under the exit roller so the cutting blades are tilted down a little. Do you find there any movement or rocking of the cutting head you can feel when it's not running?
      A lot of thicknesser designs are the same with just 2 height screws either end of the cutting head, even the Dewalt 733. Others have 4 height screws one in each corner, I'm just wondering if that design produces less snipe.

  • @SirBenJamin_

    To be fair, the clogging is more than likely due to your inadequate 'extractor'. A shop vac simply isn't powerful enough.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  4 года назад

      Yes that could be the case. I was thinking of getting a chip extractor high volume the ones you can mount on a wall but not decided yet. Just the space limitations are an absolute nightmare 🤔

    • @SirBenJamin_
      @SirBenJamin_ 4 года назад

      @@CasualDIY I know the feeling. I use a vac on my Triton, and it gets about 70% of the chips. But I have no space for anything more powerful either

    • @OneSingleBreath
      @OneSingleBreath 2 года назад +2

      I think, if your Vac is a decent one, you’re good to go as far as the hose diameter is above 50 mm. If I remember it right, Metabo suggests for the DH330 58 mm or bigger.

    Hi. I am also owner of DH 330 and after leveling regulations practically each time I am getting 0,1-0,2-0,3 mm deeper cut at the end of material and this is started ca 7 cm from the edge of material This is exactly started when material is leaving first pushing roller. I asked Metabo service what to do They said this is normal with this machine and this part has to be cut out from planed material as lost. Do you see something similar ? Thx and Kind Regards Marek

    Do you think the blocking starts in the "funnel" of the chip extractor, and then backs up? if this is the case, have you drilled a couple of 1-2mm holes in then (narrow) of the funnel so there is a constant suction from the actual end, and with this happening would that stop the build up of debris within the extractor? If this fails. just use a hot glue gun to seal the holes. (Czy uważasz, że blokowanie zaczyna się w „lejku” wyrzutnika wiórów, a następnie się cofa? jeśli tak jest, czy wywierciłeś kilka otworów 1-2 mm w tym (wąskim) lejku, aby zapewnić ciągłe ssanie z rzeczywistego końca, a to mogłoby zatrzymać gromadzenie się zanieczyszczeń w ekstraktorze ? Jeśli to się nie powiedzie. po prostu użyj gorącego pistoletu do klejenia, aby uszczelnić otwory.)

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  3 года назад

      Depends on type of wood really. Sometimes it gets blocked where the plastic funnel meets the body of the machine. And sometimes it gets blocked at the narrow end of the plastic funnel.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Год назад +1

      Hi, had no issues with blades. I do get chippings build up in the plastic attachment for two reasons. The attachment is for 100mm hose mine is 50mm and I just got a shop vac which is not good for this type of tools. You need a chip extractor - high volume low pressure. Secondly, this issue gets worse when I do deeper cuts. So if I had a proper chip extractor plus normal passes I don't think I would have issues with the chip build up.
