WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

I see it as delusional. The caller wants to influence the audience by having the hosts say ‘Jesus loves you’ repeatedly. Some Christians really think this sort of thing ‘plants a seed’ which will slowly affect the person who hears it, opening them up to further influences… actually that sounds more like a parasitic takeover.😂

These are the people that scare me the most. It makes me hope at some point the church will just tell people "listen, there is no god, we're just doing it for money, so settle down with the craziness".

This is a perfect example why it is dangerous to base your morals on religion and a 3,000 year old book.
"God said so/my holy book says so" but they lack the reasoning skills to determine if something is moral or not.
the torah is 3 thousand years old the koran was 1101 AD and christian bible is still changing to this day.50,000 + denominations based on the christians bible( 49 CE through, as late as, the mid-2nd century CE)and threat number grows weekly..
You want to know about Jesus? How would you like it if someone came up to you and said, “I love you, I really, really love you, but if you don’t love me back, I’m going to set you on fire. That’s Jesus. That’s not salvation, that’s extortion. And it’s definitely not love. It’s like a Mafia thug telling you to obey the boss or I’m going to break your kneecaps. If you can love that person, you have a twisted idea of love.
We’re very fortunate that there’s no evidence for the existence of such a malevolent monster. Life would be truly appalling is such evil existed.
It's kinda why I see the devil as a good guy. Jesus was too for the most part. But God is a true tyrant.
@@odinson6348 I don’t believe in the supernatural. There’s no evidence to support a claim that these three ever existed so nobody I know wastes time thinking about them. We in the Nordics we’re experts at inventing imaginary gods but we long ago moved them to the realm of mythology. English speaking nations named their days of the week after them for reasons I don’t try to understand. Our young daughters enjoy their myths as bedtime reading.

I know what William Lane Craig says about killing babies. He justifies it by saying God takes the innocents straight to heaven. Christians can justify anything with their different interpretations….that’s the special thing about the Bible. It says anything you WANT it to say.

I'm an Ex-Christian and now Deist. It's very easy to talk about something one can't prove. That's defined as ignorance. If there is a Divine source, we are here by our own free will and choice. Leave 'God' out this this like little spoiled, entitled children most religious people are. If there is life after death, there is nothing to worry about. I believe humanity chose to be here to have a human experience. The Divine leaves us to our own demise. Ever wonder why Christians don't have the faith to walk on water or other great works Jesus has done. Because the NT is just a manmade story.

When you can’t explain why your book is true you should know you are in trouble
The mental contortions one has to subject oneself to in order to keep believing this stuff is amazing. Ultimately all they have are clichés which they repeat over and over until the brain no longer processes the statements.
Not only is the numb er of people who believe a claim evidence for the truth of the claim, the fact that billions of people have countless mutually incompatible religious beliefs shows that the justification they use for those beliefs (i.e. faith) is unreliable. If you care about whether what you believe is actually true, you must reject faith as a justification for belief.
The more I listen to the ignorance of theists the more thankful I am that my parents were atheists.

The biggest problem with religion is that God is used as an authority for whatever they want to say and do. The sad thing is that nobody knows if God exists. Some people “cherry-pick” the bible, go along with the “good” parts, ignore the “bad” parts. If you are capable of recognizing something as good or bad, right or wrong, then what do you need the book for? Again, their sense of good and bad, or right and wrong, preceded and existed outside of their reading of the Bible.
