My biggest mistake as a new player was wanting to try a new fleet everytime I came to the table. Have someone help you build one solid fleet and play it repeatedly with only minor tweaks. That way you learn how things synergize and dont forget all your upgrades.
That's understandable. It's just so much fun to try new ships.
They need to revise the core rule book. The book that comes in the core set does NOT have the updated rules.
Keeping in mind I haven't played yet, only watched a game played at a game store, but that said:
Has anyone tried making a list of your bonuses for play?
So for example you bullet list your SSD and your other ships and write out underneath it all the bonuses it gets (extra red die against objective target, squadron redeployment on destruction, etc.) as bullet points underneath it; just enough info to remind you "oh yeah, I have that thing."
I find organization stuff like that REALLY helps me in some other games with lots of mechanical buffs and stuff
Man, it's a lot of work trying to learn this game. There is so much more going on than X-Wing.
But it's so much deeper and rewarding of a game. I went back to 1 round of xwing after a like 9 hour marathon of armada and we didnt even finish that one round we got bored.
Well worth the learning curve
Not the worst wargame though, and for its complexity it is greatly satisfying

I am known for starting at speed 1, no matter what the situation is... and running over my own squads on the first turn. I will never learn either. It's just my thing now.
What I've found with managing/remembering upgrades is limiting most upgrades to the same general timing window. Like having primarily upgrades that affect when attacked, or while moving, etc. Kinda just establishes an easier to remember thing so that cards don't get skipped over.

Thank you for this! My friends and I were constantly messing up crit effects as we were learning and it really ruffled some feathers early on. Sometimes the RRG just isn’t clear too.

Great video! My most common mistake is with cards that exhaust. In particular, I often forget that Avenger was Eratta-ed so it exhausts. That one's tricky because the outdated card itself is the problem.
I would add forgetting items from the objective cards. Eg forgetting the extra die against the Most Wanted ship
For me i forget about upgrade cards like i will have a really good upgrade card on a ship and will forget to use it then look back on it and think...huh...that would have let me take down *insert ship here*

On the first topic, bringing an odd number of squadrons is cheaper, isnt it? Since if you have 2 and I have 1, you place 2 squadrons, I deploy my last squadron. If we both are using Tie fighters, your paying 8 points more for a deployment stall than I am for the same end goal.

I've had the game for a while but I haven't played many games but my most critical mistakes usually happen when I think my small ships are safer because they are behind my big ships. When it comes to loosing just one dice out of a massive pool to one shot a small ship behind another they will take that shot more often then not.
I've made all of these mistakes and more! Critical Effects are still very confusing for me haha
My friend I'm teaching Armada to keeps activating his ships in an order that puts them in more danger than they need to be. Trying to get the message across that doing it later is better generally

Cheers for the video, will be a good help moving forward. Wanted to ask a quick question, not sure the answer will be quick as it may be a big ask. What would be your recommendations for the first... let's say 5ish games/scenarios for a pair of new players to work their way towards a better grasp of the rules? I picked up Armada at launch and grabbed all of wave 1 but moved house shortly thereafter and wasn't able to get games in and it's been sitting on a shelf since. At long last I'm back to playing it with my partner in isolation but we're both very green. Basically just looking for some advice on how slowly/quickly to implement things like obstacles/objectives/upgrades/building fleets and strange circumstance rulings. Thanks heaps.
Newbie here. I've played about 10 games of armada. We started with "No Obstacles or objectives, 200 point limit, maximum 1 upgrade per ship." I found this to be the best way to learn the game mechanics. After the first 8 games we added the obstacles, and when we next play I believe we will be using objectives and point limit of 400 (the classic rules)

With X-Wing and Legion getting alternate painted/sculpted minis, what special reprints would you like to see for Armada?
FFG barely reprints Armada ship expansions as it is, so it's unlikely they will produce special reprints in alternate paint schemes. You're better off repainting your minis yourself -- or hiring an experienced model painter to do it for you.
Does anybody know where I can find an Imperial Star Destroyer? Everywhere I look it costs $200 or sold out, or it's in french. Or should I just get a second Chimaera. I need a Star Destroyer to balance it out.
Most Armada ships, like the ISD, were already in short supply before the COVID-19 crisis hit. Now, restocks are even less likely to happen anytime soon. FFG announced that they're not going to be releasing any products for the near-future; presumably, that includes restocks. I'm actually surprised that you can even find a Chimaera.
I've seen ISDs selling for $100+ on eBay. Occasionally someone sells their whole Armada collection on eBay. You might have to buy a collection that includes an ISD. Or you could try contacting the seller and asking if you can buy only the ISD. They'll be reluctant to do that because the ISD is a major selling feature for a collection, so you might need to offer more than retail price to get it.
Otherwise, you're probably out of luck for now.

Interesting. One of the things I’ve realized I’ve been messing up is major rhynmer, I thought his ability allowed friendly squadrons to roll their squadron armament against ships

Generally yes. Well,,, not in X-Wing anymore. In X-Wing you kinda HAVE to max upgrades now.
@@Crabbok if you have a lot of load out and a lot of upgrade slots, it can be difficult to keep track of.
