    Simple and not too complicated for beginner. Will give it a try with our local tropical woods.

    Excellent rendition of the RD Furniture mallet construction with a bit more "flair" with light colored dowels on sides. Nicely done.

    At first I was all WTF. Then I was all WTH. This is a great alternate to the usual mallet builds . Excellent work.

    That’s beautiful! I love any excuse to use a hand plane.
    I also wish that you would use a push stick, for your safety and those who might be learning from you on You Tube.

    But why the long extension cord? If you moved it all in the tractor, why not closer to the outlet? 0:21
    But great job 👏

    Lovely job & a different approach to a mallet. Wish you had weighed the beast & advised where such uniquely colored wood can be found or suggested an alternative. May I also suggest that the striking faces ideally should not be at right angles to the handle axis.

    How long does the linseed oil keep the shine? I spray a clear gloss lacquer on mine and I like it but keep using can after can. I like the hammer, I've made a few out of maple and padauk too. Great stunning combination.

    This was a very good idea ! I know the feeling when you're working some wood to get something very clean at end, i was a carpenter during a year when i was 16yo ! Oh and i hope you didn't hurt your thumb too much, it happens a lot to carpenters sadly..

      Thanks! Yeah, My thumb is recovering. It was bleeding quite a bit. Had to stop and put a bandaid. I'l be ok. Lol

    Lovely!!
    Only improvement might be planing or scraping down the face dowels so the Padauk dust doesn't tint their lighter color. Padauk is just notorious for staining lighter woods when sanding.
    But a gorgeous hammer nonetheless!

      @frenchriversprings  7 лет назад

      Ya tell me about it. If it's not raining the sun and mosquitos bug me. I have a beautiful shop but can't do any woodworking in it because it's a water bottling shop for my water business. :(

    Yes your mallet is beautiful indeed 😍 but I cannot understand why you were using the hand Planer 2:09 ?? I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with using a hand planer but you have lots of top shelf makes of power tools in your video (a Dewalt Thicknesser / Planer,. a Dewalt Table Saw, a Milwaukee drill, a Dewalt Router, a Dewalt Mitre Saw.......so why the hand planer ?? and not some other Dewalt or Milwaukee power planer ??
    I love your power tools though, keep up the great videos 😁👍
