Hey Mick, I’m glad you have this part of your build journey as a stand-alone video so that you could really take time to walk us thru the steps. Excellent techniques, thanks for sharing them! 🙏
G'day Terence! Thanks mate I'm glad it might be helpful. There might be easier/better ways to make the body fit but for me it's a first having a body with no lines. It had me scratching my head a lot. 🙂👍
It's all go mate! Thanks Owen! Oh yeah, was not fun at all. I thought I was gonna end up with shock tower cutouts in the middle or something 😂 Yeah, I think it turned out well. Hoping the paint goes well too! 🙂👍
I just closed my guitar shop, and am getting laid off at the end of the month from my other job so I’m in the job market too. When one door closes, another opens.. this build is awesome Mick
Oh no! I know how it is mate, I'm in and out of jobs a lot these days. Maybe I don't put up with as much crap as I used to 😂. I hope you fine something soon mate, good luck in your search! Thanks mate, hopefully the paint turns out good. 🙂👍
@@RCHobbyShed the economy killed my shop, and my other job is building delay boxes for drag cars, but with the economic crunch, guys aren’t building new cars they’re running their old ones so that industry is very slow right now. Got an interview with an aerospace manufacturer Tuesday. Fingers crossed 🤞. Have a great weekend brother
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers Not good mate. The economy is screwing everyone it seems. Oh nice, an aerospace manufacturer sounds like a great job. Best of luck with it mate, I hope you nail it! Thanks mate, you have a great weekend too! 🙂👍
Thanks mate, it's good to be earning again! Glad you enjoyed it. After the video I thought maybe I'll change the brown lol. I do this, change my mind 10 times before I actually paint. But hopefully it will look close to box art. Cheers mate! 🙂👍
@@prophetate Haha, I'd like to see that restored too but yeah, if only I had 26 hands, limitless funds and 300 hours in a day. Another guy was just asking about the TWO Ultimas I planned to build, but I have to go back and fix the Turbo Optima paint job I didn't get right since that keeps coming up! 😂
Thanks Mark. I'm thinking now, using a Protractor would have helped. Especially where the body fits down at the back. Would have made explaining it easier too. Cheers mate, loads more to come! 🙂👍
G'day Mick! , That looks nice just as it is so imagine painted!👌. The colours re looking nice, great idea using the bottle as a test piece👍. Nice work lining up the body and cutting it mate, seeing how tricky it is not having guide lines really makes us appreciate having cut lines. Brilliant idea making a sanding drum👌, we're definitely knocking that idea off for future builds. Thanks for sharing your video and how to Mick 👍. Have a nice rest now mate 🤠👩🦘🇦🇺
G'day mate! Yeah I agree, they just look awesome. Oh yeah, life is much easier with cut lines 😂. The sanding drum idea is pretty old I spoze, a lot of people do that for wheel arches on touring car bodies. Although they do sell them for that. Haha go for it mate! No probs at all mate. Yeah, my eyes have been open for 22 hours now, prolly time I close them 😩. Have a good weekend mate! 👍
Great job Mick. Just be wary of mixing those paints so there's no repeat of the Optima. Even though I quite like that orangy/red colour combo. Anymore Ultima updates or projects? Here's hoping the new job works out. Edit: See if that Optima under-tray works on the Turbo Ultima, curious to see if it offers up. Give the Turbski Ultima a dash of under body aero.
Thanks mate! Oh yeah I’m always aware things can go wrong when mixing paints but if we don’t try different things then nothing is ever different 😉. It’s funny how people only remember failures. 🤣 Well I found the parts I misplaced for the Ultimas so shouldn’t be too far away! 👍
She''s a beaut! The best looking version of the Optima in my opinion. On a related note, I have a Javelin that I''m gonna build, but the exposed electronics have me wondering if there's any after-market shell that wraps around the chassis beneath the rollcage? Hoping to keep the dirt going in to a minimum.
Thanks mate! I think so too, although I love the original Optima. I just can't decide between them 😂 Sorry mate, I've not seen any undertrays for the Javelin anywhere. You maybe could look at the dust bags, I'm not sure what they're called. But they use them on the bigger basher RC's. They wrap around and have a zipper on them, but I have no idea what car would be a similar shape to the Javelin in order to buy one. Sorry mate, I have no other ideas. 🙂👍
@@RCHobbyShed Thank you Mick for the info and advice. 🙂 If there's anyone who would know about parts availability, it would be you. I guess I would have to try other alternatives, as I'm also concerned about aesthetics, so the dust bags are out. Or maybe just let it be... am I thinking to much into it? 😄
@@jemster38 No probs at all! Wish I could have been more helpful. Haha maybe you are thinking about it too much. Unless you drive it near mud or something it should be fine. If you have an air compressor, that would be handy to blow dirt and stuff out of it. You maybe have to pick some little pebbles out but in general it won't be too hard to clean if you're mindful of where you drive it. 🙂👍
@@RCHobbyShed No worries, you're a great help, you've confirmed that there aren't any undertrays as I've scoured the internet looking for them. I did think about cutting some pla-plate to cover up the sides, will have to see how it goes when I get to assembling it! I do have a compressor so that is also an option! 👍👌
@@jemster38 All good mate. One thing with adding plates, you might be making it worse. Because the chassis is so open a lot of stuff that gets in there will also fall out again. Side plates may cause it to build up inside. It's all trial and error though I guess! 🙂👍
Brilliant, mate. I have inherited a vintage Turbo ultima like the white one you built. I need new wheels. Are all the Kyosho 2wd wheels interchangeable?

Metal shirt appreciation. Very good. Great work with the cutting too, it sits nicely on the chassis
