I agree. I think I'm 41...lol. and I haven't had this much fun since elden ring. Before that it's been a while. Maybe rdr2. I don't have the button mapping down in a way where I can be that good, Its not intuitive to me like ER was. But I'm lvl 17, so I'll get better. Aside from that it's been very fun so far. The uniqueness of the pawn system and interactions with other players pawns, as well as the vocation system work well imo. I was a bit worried about it being a bit messy, especially item wise. But it's been good so far
I wish I could explain how happy in makes me to hear “in this Dragon’s Dogma 2 video…” 😊 it’s been years in the making for many of us, and I always look forward to your build videos. Especially this one, since I want to start with the Archer class. Thank you!
One of the most important augments for archers is the thief augment that makes you less likely to draw aggro from enemies. Swap vocation to thief once you hit level 3 in archer, explore and kill a few enemies, unlock the thief augment subtlety, swap back to archer.
Good video on the Archer. Thanks man. I came to see how to use "Puncture Shot," but you didn't mention it. I figured it out halfway through the video though. While holding R1 for steady shot, press R3 to initiate it like a weapon skill. There are also 7 "Core Skills," but you only went over the 3. Appreciate the video.
Awesome Guide! Would definitely like to know what skills would be best for pawns in each vocation, but that could be a separate video focusing on pawns. And I know that a party composition video would be greatly appreciated (i.e. if going as a Fighter main, these are the recommended vocations and skills for your pawns). Keep up the great work!
Always love and appreciate your video guides. I booted the game up last night and I landed on archer to start with. Playing out my Legolas fantasy has been difficult, but it is possible and so much fun
Great videos as always. I feel like the skill ceiling on archer is pretty high and you can be really effective at any range. I think you should be dashing a lot as the archer. Loose does significantly more damage if you fire out of a dash and the slide can get you under large enemies and avoid attacks. Also the kick is really effective against normal sized enemies. I pretty much just stomp saurians and dont even use my bow. Embrace your inner Legolas and get in the thick of it. And dont sleep on the combo of deluging/tarring arrow, spiral arrow and an elemental buff. You can set status effects very quickly and increase the effectiveness if you open with deluge or tarring.
You said that Archer is a pure DPS class, which is mostly true but I think it's worth mentioning that if you invest into crafting different arrow types you can take on a light support/debuff role as well especially later in the game. Tarring or blighting your enemies from a distance and letting your pawns exploit those conditions can be really effective.
My one problem with my archer is I rather have dodge then dash. I mean am a long distance fighter, what do I need dash for? Now if fast moving enemies are close to me, let me freakin roll out of the way...
The class would be broken like in monster hunter if you had the dodge. I think it's good that way. Position yourself to control the battlefield, deal damage, move to another spot and deal damage. It's like a sniper role. You're not supposed to be Rambo
I found that having a fighter and warrior both equipped with taunt works really well for keeping aggro off you. Add mage to the mix and everything becomes easy mode.
Having a blast playing archer. Came across a griffin decided to fight it. 2 shots in i did no damage and i remembered i had oil arrows and my pawn is a mage with fire skills. Went from doing no damage to bursting down its health. Felt good after i killed it with ez. Teamwork makes the dream work.
I have been waiting for this. I am gonna start as an archer with my pawn as a fighter for melee. I think that range option without hiring a pawn early is a great starter. I always loved ranger in the first game, too. Tenfold flurry basically made ranger a melee class.
@@504Trey got archer. Then magick archer. Now ima do wayfarer with mystic spear/ trickster/thief / and magick archer. and just run a fighter and two pawn mages
Great video explaining basic archer information. I literally am ready to give up on archer because the aiming feels super janky on mouse and keyboard (maybe the game is optimized for controller, not sure). LMB you can't aim at all which feels really bad so I was using RMB and holding it down but then using my skills shots just didnt seem fluid. It's like I had to press the skill shot twice almost to actually fire it. I might give this another try with some of your tips though. Follow up: RMB (steadyshot). You hold down RMB, which notches an arrow, but then when I use barrage it notches new arrows. So I fire barrage, still holding down RMB and it notches an arrow for steady shot again but if I try to fire another skill shot new arrows are notched... if that makes sense. Maybe I'm doing it wrong...
Anyone playing on ps5 and probably played the first version of the game I recommend you swap R1 and L1 functions as it was before in part one, especially playing this vocation.
So you basically have infinte normal arrows? I don't see any arrow counter. As I understand, you only have a limited number of special arrows, am I right?
Archers are so good. It's been my primary Vocation since I started, but I've also maxed out Mage and got some ranks in a few others for the Augments. Every other class feels like a slog in comparison. Haven't unlocked Magic Archer yet, but I'm nearly there. Wandered through a cave and wound up in Battahl unexpectedly, figure I may as well pick up Magic Archer while I'm down there.
You can actually "dodge" by sprinting and then pressing square to loose an arrow at an enemy, your character will slide across to ground and then quickly knock an arrow and release it, it's super fun to do
My biggest problem with the magic archer is the quick shot has basically no tracking. I don’t mind aiming in but the fact that it doesn’t track properly is trash. At least the normal archer has a good quick shot that locks properly.
On steady shot, you hold the R1 button to aim and then let it go to shot. Is that correct? I noticed you firing rapidly, how do you do that on steady shot? Great video.
I have my pawn leveling archer now and she is using Medusa bow and she is climbing high with the extra xp. I used it and got higher than her so used it on her to catch her up. Might be an idea to let the pawns get higher if it’s possible to help with the dmg.
This looks so cool but is ammo/arrows an issue? Think the thought of having to manage all the arrows and keeping. The number up would annoy me too much 😂
To clarify my statement- I’m saying shooters have it a certain way which most of us have gotten used to. I find it funny that these devs didn’t use that as the default and instead use something that messes with your muscle memory
Sorry but completely wrong concerning steady shot. The auto aim is super good and great. So useful especially for controller players, and all the mages get auto aim as well now bows do too, it works for abilities as well, just making archer much more viable for both players and pawns.
I’ve played archer for 2 days and i could say one thing matter most to this class: position! I prefer to travel high ground and start any combat with sniping down a few enemy with lyncean sight, then choose a safe spot that ground enemy couldn’t reach and finish the rest. Whenever i got ambushed, immediately find higher ground with clear view of the enemies, never…ever just stand on the middle ground and fight. I’ve taken down orge and troll easily based on this tatic. Always keep an eye on range enemies and take them out first. Now I’m lv 20 and the only downside i see as an archer is you use stamina a lot so in a long fight always pay attention to the bar. In short: find safe positions, take down mage/ranger enemies first and stamina management. Have a good game fellow archer brothers!

Definitely, though I don't know if you'd want to assign a Skill that uses consumable Arrows unless you were planning to give them to the Pawn, and I don't know how often they'd use them if you did.
Can anyone explain how I do the jump off enemy then fire an arrow. Like how do I even jump off of an enemy. I bought the skill but don't know how to do it

Yes, vocations can be changed easily. Archer will allow you to survive more in the beginning while you learn the game:
How do I switch arrow types every time I go to the menu and click an arrow type it doesn't let me "use" them
You have to have the skill equipped to use each specific arrow and have the arrows in your inventory.
