Players are sleeping on the “tarring shot” skill. It’s easier to ignite foes when you use that on the monsters. If you have a mage or sorc who does fire damage. You will light them on fire for sure. The thief also can light them on fire with on of their skills. When the monsters get burned they automatically get off balance allowing you to tip them over and land that sweet sweet critical. You can also equip “tarring shot” with “explosive shot.” To do even more damage when you ignore them.
I have been playing all the strength based classes and really like all of them. Probably the weakest one I think is the Fighter but I still like it. Thief is basically god mode with the maister skill you basically get for free during the main story. It is an activated mode that slowly drains your stamina but makes you automatically dodge every attack even aoe magic attacks. I can keep it up for almost a minute then regen my stamina in a few seconds and turn it on again. None of the other maister skills are nearly as good.
it's defensive tho. on my first playthrough i played a sorcerer and nothing ever came close to meteor strike or hurricane damagewise. those spells just melt everything. I changed to archer with xp bow for faster leveling in new game +, but it feels absolutely lacking in damage. even with the maester skill, the archer just feels like its a mile behind sorc.
@@d4heinz you are playing Archer in the worst way possible my guy. That weapon is the worst weapon in the entire game. The Meister skill is garbage as well. I am an Archer main. You need to ditch the Medusa bow if you actually want to play the game. Then use Spiral Arrow, Nocuous Shot, Erupting Shot, and Incendiary Shot. Erupting Shot is your best damage move on most bosses. You want to use Incendiary Shot first then Erupting Shot and it Torches them which is better than just normal Burn. Against Drakes you use Nocuous Shot whenever they try to breath fire, cast a spell, or fly and it will stop them. Then use Spiral Arrow on their heart. Use the NG+ skill blessing on Spiral Arrow so you can spam it. That setup is good against every enemy. Erupting Shot is especially good against Unmoored bosses as it will pop all the weak spots at once. Sorc is overkill most of the time and you can't target weak spots accurately at all. I would rather one shot headshot every normal enemy and move on than sit there charging a spell.
Exploding arrow / torrent shot / the spiral arrow / and heavenly shot - the only 4 skills needed. Shoot an exploding arrow (regular boom boom explosion arrow) then follow up with spiral arrow and then finish with heavenly shot. If coming across any small boss just shoot exploding arrow and then spiral and they should go down almost immediately lol. I found deathly shot to be pretty pointless later on. Not useful for EVERY fight whereas the other 4 mentioned are. Torrent shot is even mediocre (personal choice). I feel like it can be subbed out for another ability if needed. Maybe tempest?
This game is very good but I find myself getting borerd of the gameplay much faster than I did in Dragon's Dogma 1.... I dunno I feel like the game might be too easy and there's just not enough diverse interactions or situations. Just 'run from one area to the next, kill the wolves, kill the goblins, kill the big monster, kill more wolves'
I love using archer i use explosive arrow on all bosses and with my strength if i hit a weak spot i can knock off almost 2 health bars. Im trying out magic archer currently and its just not as good as in DG 1, just to slow and charging time for skills is too long. Probably going back to archer very soon.
I think aiming torrent Shot manually via Gyro is the best way to Deal huge amounts of damage on PS5. On PC don’t know, mouse aiming is probably fine too.
Yep same for me, the Vocation you choose can really make or break your experience, I was shitting on the game until I switched to Archer and promptly changed my tune.
Someone told me the more you play a vocation the more point gets added on to their stats and using different hurts you if you do touch moving around . Is that true ?
I mean the footage playing is extremely underwhelming. You're manually aiming at the weak point and spamming tempest shot but it barely moves the health bar (and it looks like you have one of the enchanted weapons) If you were doing this with a sorcerer or warrior this would be chunking entire health bars off The class feels fun to play but the actual performance is just nothing like DD1
I agree, I think archer only really works well on a pawn. They frequently aim for weakspots and chip good amount of damage away and don't have the tendency of jumping into the river like other close range vocations.
Well I've been playing a lot with it lately and i have to say you didn't talk about the heavenly shot that you learn from the maister the king of the elves village and its pretty amazing i know that it drains your whole stamina but the damage is really good especially on weak points and also have to do it at the perfect moment but when you get really used to using it its pretty deadly
Its super inconsistent (on console at least). A lot of times it just doesn't register weak spot hits well (I'm guessing) and even when it does I've never seen any more damage than exploding shot does.
As someone who's played 50+ hours with archer, i'll let you know the secret sauce to damage. Bomb arrow + Deadly arrow = griffins die in 45 seconds or less

I played to Lvl 35 with archer and I love the class but currently leveling the two mage classes to better transition into magic archer will probably pick up thief after followed by trickster. Prolly gonna avoid fighter classes due to my character being smol.
@spicypineapple2778 hahaha nope op is right. It's been proven and is in many "things I wish I knew before playing" videos. Also for reference my pawn is the same level as me and has all vocations maxed just like I do however because I kept her mage the longest she has waaay more Magick and Magick defense then I do and I have more hp strength and defense even when I have it set to the same class with the same armor same upgrades and the same augments.
i started on fighter and not liking it at all. Im on vocation rank 6, should i swap out now or wait until im fully ranked up and who should i change too? thinking thief or archer
Swap around as much as you like! I swap between archer and fighter a lot and swap my pawns around too. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different parties, it changes combat a lot if you really play your role.
I recommend checking out the augmentations of all the vocations. Some of them you can get in like an hour of play and they will make the other vocations much better.
@@kittykedama7643 True, but i find it better to play around a bit in the beginning to find out what Vocation you like best and then max that. By that time you should be like lvl 25 and it will be significantly easier to max the other Vocations since you probably have picked up some pretty nice gear for all vocations by then.
Do you think we can get pawn builds eventually? Like right now dunno what’s optimal for an archer pawn. Also found out today max level is 999. That’s insane. Seeing a few of my friends already in late game I thought it was 68ish. I was very far off and wrong.
100% make your main pawn a mage, I'd use the drenching arrow with a mage that gives ice or lighting boon to your bow and has a spell that is frost or lighting, then I'd give it some healing capabilities 👊 done me wonders with my archer
I've been loving the Archer for 20+ hours and switched to Magick Archer yesterday and I find the Magick Archer much weaker and more clunky than the regular Archer.
You must be joking, magic archer is one of the strongest vocations in DD2, probably only beaten by thief. Not just that it is strong, it also has great support and is a viable option to be played as healer instead of mage. Magic archer is only in the beginning ranks underwhelming, starting with rank 3-4 and forward you get the more juicy stuff. If you want to see exp plopping up like crazy then go into a dungeon, charge a full ricochet arrow and see how it deletes everything you didn't even know was there. Besides the maister skill is probably the strongest one shot boss killer with the downside of spending your own HP, but camps are usually not far away to get it back again. You should really give it another try if you think it is weaker than archer.
Thank you for this guide. Ive restarted my playthrough and im trying the archer, maybe im just trash at this game but as anything other then Fighter and Mage im having problems with surviving this is most with the archer vocation. Anyone with tips for surviving as a 7ft archer?😅
sprint slide bro. equip close range damage ring you get from the elf. quip 2 if you find another one like i did. sprint slide into enemies face, you can chain them if you time it right. or you can jump kick away and then slide in again. Sprint slide doesnt give s but you can still use it to dodge since hitboxes are clean af in this game.
Yes. There are only two types of offensive stats in the game which is strength for every physical based damage (arrows count) and magick for well any spell damage. If you have an elemental buff on a physical weapon it will add the magick value into consideration as well (just not 100%).
Is it true to get the most out of the magicarcher to play mage first to 200 and than switch to the magicbowy? Or do the stats up per lvl ist the same nagic power at 200 like the mage? Pls i dont like the mage but i loved 2 play the magic bow guy? ❤
That's how stats worked in the last game, but in this one, your stats automatically change to fit whatever your vocation is. You can just play the class you want The only reason I can think of to level other vocations is to get their augments
The only true strength for archer is the unique unmaking arrow, as far as I know, mythic archer cannot use it. The unmaking arrow can one shot anything including the final boss. there are only 2 unmaking arrows in the game tho
Well yes, but you can also only use it one per playthrough. So that one time thing is not really something I consider a strength for archer at all since you can just switch to a rank 1 archer, use the arrow and switch back to whatever else.

Archer starts off kinda slow and crappy, but nce you hit rank 2-3 or so and start getting skills, the damage is just sick. My problem with archer now is that I keep pulling aggro despite my main pawn being a fighter with every possible aggro increasing skill equipped. If I'm not careful I spend more time running away screaming than doing damage. Which does still benefit the party, since they're free to beat on the stupid thing while it tries to catch me. Just switched to mystic spearhand and love it, but I'll definitely be returning to max out archer at some point. Very fun and effective without feeling too overpowered. Can't wait to try magic archer at some point as well.
use sprint slide. use it a lot. equip the ring for close range damage and sprint slide into enemies face. then you can jump kick away or chain more sprint slides, it helps you avoid damage and stagger enemies. so fun
Get one level in Thief and you will get the Subtlety augment which makes monsters attack you less. It's really good for Archer and any ranged class really.
Archer damage is just straight up trash most of the time without having some Mage buff up. You basically have to turn the Archer into a Magick Archer for it to do damage on much of anything. Especially once you hit kitty land since enemies have such high armor either through plate, or natural. Sucking at Archer? Grab a Mage pawn.
Uhhh are you kidding me? I one shot nearly every basic mob in the game. Infinite cc blasting fools. I do insane damage and never die. My favourite class next to warrior.

Archer is good but damn is it boring and slow paced so far. Having to jump on an enemy to be able to flip backwards is stupid and doesn’t work well for bosses. Only a couple abilities and you’re always stationary. No finishers or cool combos like other classes (spearhand) and feels awkward not being able to pull out daggers up close. It’s so clunky to use an ability more than once in a row (loads an arrow, reloads arrow again for the ability selected even if you spam it, then shoots). Really wanted to like it but It feels like DD1 in slow motion and in mud
completely opposite for me. against smaller enemies i sprint slide into their face, then jump kick to disengage, or just chain more sprint slides. i bounce around more than thief as archer, its so fun. i only use weapon skills against large monsters and even then the core skills are useful for controlling distance and dodging

The thief also can light them on fire with on of their skills. When the monsters get burned they automatically get off balance allowing you to tip them over and land that sweet sweet critical.
You can also equip “tarring shot” with “explosive shot.” To do even more damage when you ignore them.
Splitting strider/ranger into individual classes is a hige nerf. We lost flexibility versatility and dps. They also made it harder to manually aim. 😢
Deathly arrow will pin small enemies to walls occasionally also
I see why people say Archer feels mid, this is HUGE nerf from Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen from Ranger, and the Hunter from Dragons Dogma Online.
3:57 damn that's so satisfying
Yeah kinda. Also the quests are not that compelling.
I already uninstalled it.
I thought I was the only one.
Do you still find it too easy? more specifically ti your point, have you cleared Battahl?
I love using archer i use explosive arrow on all bosses and with my strength if i hit a weak spot i can knock off almost 2 health bars. Im trying out magic archer currently and its just not as good as in DG 1, just to slow and charging time for skills is too long. Probably going back to archer very soon.
I think aiming torrent Shot manually via Gyro is the best way to Deal huge amounts of damage on PS5. On PC don’t know, mouse aiming is probably fine too.
I started as a mage and wasn't enjoying it that much, I switched to archer and I'm having a blast now.
My experience exactly
Yep same for me, the Vocation you choose can really make or break your experience, I was shitting on the game until I switched to Archer and promptly changed my tune.
my problem with archer is I can not im properly on a damn controller
Get gud
I have that problem too. Just have to practice.
melee archer best archer. get the ring the give close range damage and sprint slide into enemies.
look in camera setting for motion control aiming. it works like the gyroscope aiming in breath of the wild. made it easier for me
Same bro. The keyboard and mouse would have been ace, but I couldn't keep up with graphics cards etc just too expensive.
Is Heavenly Shot any good? I notice you didnt mention it at all, and wondered if it just sucks or not.
Someone told me the more you play a vocation the more point gets added on to their stats and using different hurts you if you do touch moving around . Is that true ?
If I didn’t have an elite controller with back paddles this class would be ass
Archers are overpowered especially when you use the bomb arrow skill. It desimates the enemys health bar quickly.
How do you know the weak points? Does it highlight?
Some are glowing, others are expected ( eyes, head, tail) and they make a specific higher ping sound when you hit them + a small distortion effect
@@Khrazegaming thank you brother
Tails on the lizards
I was told the upgraded zoom shot enters slow motion, can you confirm?
I mean the footage playing is extremely underwhelming. You're manually aiming at the weak point and spamming tempest shot but it barely moves the health bar (and it looks like you have one of the enchanted weapons)
If you were doing this with a sorcerer or warrior this would be chunking entire health bars off
The class feels fun to play but the actual performance is just nothing like DD1
I agree, I think archer only really works well on a pawn. They frequently aim for weakspots and chip good amount of damage away and don't have the tendency of jumping into the river like other close range vocations.
@@Zanktus archer pawns are also really good because they will burst harpies down before they can pick up and drop your entire team in the water
Everyone is saying to shoot bomb arrow then another skill, does bomb arrow damage increase depending on what you hit it with or something?
@@DR-zl2ct Honestly I can't tell you but from what i've expeirenced it looks like it. Can't say for sure it does tho. I just try to combine high damage with high damage
So sad they remove daggers and dodge from Archer(( like it was in first DG. Now Ranger is almost useless
I miss tenfold arrow and being able to quip that with explosive arrows vs being a skill
Anyone else loving warfarer?
I would of enjoyed the archer a lot more if it had a dodge like the thief. Still fun just a little too much of changing positions.
Thanks for these tips because I’m 8 hours in as an archer and really struggling!
I’ve been playing Archer. They are ridiculously OP, I one shot the majority of enemies. Even bullied a Minotaur. Every time it got up I did so much damage it fell over again. Currently level 11 with 4 hours in.
equip the ring of closer damage and sprint slide into enemies. its so fun and pretty strong
@@unpredictablehalfbread6043 teach me 🫡
@@unpredictablehalfbread6043level 11 and that good? What bow are you using?
Quite good at it actually l. First time playing it. Now me and my team take out ogres in 2 minutes. Shoot in the face. Deadly arrows and some explosive shots in the face. Not even in master skills yet or what it is called..i
I played to Lvl 35 with archer and I love the class but currently leveling the two mage classes to better transition into magic archer will probably pick up thief after followed by trickster. Prolly gonna avoid fighter classes due to my character being smol.
Better transition? This isn’t DD1 dude. You don’t have to level classes for a “transition”. You just do it.
Some of them you can get in like an hour of play and they will make the other vocations much better.
will do, nice one guysss@@melanp4698
if it was me i would just keep playing fighter until i max its rank up because eventually youll want to get max rank for all vocations
Archer pawns just suck imo. Mage, sorcerer, warrior is the only setup I’ve seen good success with
And make sure your sorcerer has meteor or maelstrom skill and the mage has all the good support with one having chigureon specialization
100% make your main pawn a mage, I'd use the drenching arrow with a mage that gives ice or lighting boon to your bow and has a spell that is frost or lighting, then I'd give it some healing capabilities 👊 done me wonders with my archer
Not talking about the maister skill at all?
I finished the game and maxed magic archer and yes it was better when I levelled it up@@Zanktus
I hate aiming with a controller with all my soul
Thank you for this guide. Ive restarted my playthrough and im trying the archer, maybe im just trash at this game but as anything other then Fighter and Mage im having problems with surviving this is most with the archer vocation. Anyone with tips for surviving as a 7ft archer?😅
Spend 500 rc for art of metamorphosis. Change your heigjt to 5 feet, get pointy ears. Profit. 😂
sprint slide bro. equip close range damage ring you get from the elf. quip 2 if you find another one like i did. sprint slide into enemies face, you can chain them if you time it right. or you can jump kick away and then slide in again. Sprint slide doesnt give s but you can still use it to dodge since hitboxes are clean af in this game.
How does exploding shot work? It wont let me use it
You have to buy explosive arrows from vendors
Does bow damage scale with strength stat?
Stats in D2 reallocate depending on which vocation you use(they might as well not exist). Just play whatever you want!
That's how stats worked in the last game, but in this one, your stats automatically change to fit whatever your vocation is. You can just play the class you want
The only reason I can think of to level other vocations is to get their augments
min maxing still exists in Dragons Dogma 2 but its not as bad as it was in Dragons Dogma 1 so feel free to play whichever vocation
@kittykedama7643 ah youre right I shouldve looked it up first
Did you just read up on a dd1 min max lol ? Max lvl is 999 here.
My Tempest Shot only shoots 3 arrows rather slowly, kinda like the burst shoot, just with pinning me at the spot. Where is my gatling?
Torrent is the gatling
@@PyrealRabbitand tempest is its upgraded version.
Can you do one for mystic spearhand?
mystic spearhand next please!
Thought he was using my pawn until I saw the name
I might have to mnk archer I didn’t realize how op it is on mnk 💀
Massive nerf from dd1, not even close to how good bow was in that game. Took away our daggers so I figured the bow skills would be better…. Well I was way off
Only allowing one weapon type to be equipped was a terrible design decision for DD2. Being able to seamlessly switch from bow to daggers for melee as needed is what made combat in DD1 so much fun. Yet another huge L from Crapcom. This is a major issue with the combat that is currently being overlooked because of all the other controversy with the microtransactions and performance issues.
your core skills are your daggers now. the fact that there is a ring that makes your bow deal more damage from close range should be a hint about how to use them ;) melee archer best archer
@@Narniak69That's the point of the Warfarer though. It's a "build your own class" vocations.
Nice video
I can't figure out the chest piece he's wearing, anyone know? lol
Archer is pretty solid but i prefer magic archer
Meanwhile sorc, strider and magick archer 1 shot entire healthbars in 2-3 seconds or less
I literally quit the game because of the Archer. Ill give it another try
It needs a 60 fps to do manual aiming....
Archer super fun just aimbotting every enemies from a distance and let my pawns do the work
Im stuck between archer and thief:(
My sorcery is destroying this game
Does this work on an archer pawn?
Motion control/gyro OP
Uhhh are you kidding me? I one shot nearly every basic mob in the game. Infinite cc blasting fools. I do insane damage and never die. My favourite class next to warrior.
i use 80% core skills and just bounce around like a maniac lol. melee archer best archer
Weis jemand wo Mann noch molchlikör bekommt hab 1 ausversehen verkauft Mann kann es mit Rezept machen Brauche dazu fruchtwein , wenn jemand ein Tipp hat dann bitte Bescheid
I really enjoy this archer gameplay.. one of the best I have seen
No tenfold makes me hate this game. I’ll pick it up when the expansion is announced
Looks fun but magic archer blows it out of the water
How to be an amazing archer.
Step 1: Get to tank 9 vocation
Step 2 Use the augment lethality on any other vocation
Step 3 Stop playing archer its boring af
step 4: woo i'm a more fun class now
Just bring 99 explosive bolt youll be playing game in easiest mode.

It feels like all of the base vocations are better than the 3 special ones.
Mystic spear hand looks nutty
I started as archer thinking it was the same as DD1. I dropped it in the first 3 hrs of gameplay. I’ll try it again eventually.
