There's got to be some kind of mental condition that makes people hoard animals like that. I don't say that to be unkind. They aren't bad people, but they just genuinely don't seem to comprehend the consequences of having so many animals in their homes.

But I agree with other comments, the hoarder needs help. Even though with most dogs gone it will take so much to make the house livable.

@@Kaotiqua they'd previously taken 9 dogs from the house before, so yes 9 dogs left in the owners care on the last check in
how many dogs remained in the flat after the next check in is unknown as this story doesn't have a follow up, probably less then 9 but if they lady was able to start getting her life in order it may be more then one dog still on site. and that's fine, if the living conditions get deemed acceptable the dogs remaining can stay, the rspca doesn't need to spend more kennel space and medical resources on dogs that are fine and cared for and can then use those unclaimed resources for the next several dogs that do need rescuing and rehomeing.

We had a summer where the fleas were horrible. Our dogs were all on flea and tick medication but they were horrible. It was only one of our dogs but she had this same flea allergy and lost almost all of her hair. We had to ASPCA out several times and had to show them the vet bills and number and the medication we had to use. It took till winter for the fleas to die off to the point where they weren't everywhere and she could grow back her hair. We had had her for years before this happened and years after... for us it was just that one summer. Even if that person had put medication on the dogs or used pills and collars, if the fleas were in the home it wouldn't have made a difference.

A lot of people here are stating the fact that not all dogs were taken out of the house of that elderly lady. While that would have definitely been a possibility, you seem to disregard the fact that, had they taken all of the dogs without her cooperation or compliance, she would have almost certainly gone out later that same day or in a matter of a few days and gotten herself replacements for the dogs in the form of other dogs that would have ended up in the same situation as the dogs she had with her before. Animal hoarding is pretty much an addiction and no threats, prosecution and legal consequences will change that behaviour.
It's hard to see dogs being left in that woman's care, but I can understand why they decided on the slower method of taking a few dogs while convincing her to work with them. Successful removal of a few dogs at a time with her consent can encourage her to surrender more pets peacefully in the future and may even prompt her to seek the help that she needs through positive encouragement. I'm pretty sure that they also worked a lot more extensively with her before and after the filming of the show than the episode showed us. The most effective way to change her behaviour is helping her as well as the dogs. That their relationship with her worked is just shown through her decision to also sign over Tina when she noticed that her needs were beyond her capabilities.

Even the last 8 dogs are full of fleas long nails missing hair even though the lady loves them she’s blind to what they need shouldn’t they have taken them all. I’m confused on the guidelines . That lady should of lost all her pets or should of been made to take them all to vets why only Tina. Them doggies are suffering too

Did I hear correctly that the hoarder was left with over a dozen of them? Even if you’re trying to “give the owner some help” it’s my opinion that’s too many to expect the woman to be able to give them a decent life.

A house is no place to keep that amount of dogs. I agree it happens over time however, These dogs should have all have been removed immediately. This is no place for animals or humans to live. It’s a very sad situation but it’s the best thing to do for every BEING involved. Hoarders really are unable to realize the enormity of the situation. The Poor dogs were in such horrible condition.. Wonderful to see the dogs healthy and in caring homes. Especially Tina who has wonderful Owners now.

i hope someone paid some attention to the birds too: I know dogs and cats get more attention, but neglected cage birds live such miserable lives.

I'm shocked that ANY dogs were left in the care of a person who is obviously an animal hoarder, where every single dog was suffering and malnourished. And she referred to it as a "multi-dog home." ???? That's a multi-dog home the way leprosy is a minor rash. I think the compassion for the woman is wonderful, because animal hoarding is definitely a mental health disorder. But it has to be balanced with boundaries and compassion for the animals. No sane and mentally healthy person would ever let their house get to that state, let alone 50 animals. This is not a person who "just needs a little help." The kindest thing to do would be to remove all those animals and prevent her from getting more until she can prove that she has had treatment. While I think the RSPCA mostly does incredible work, I think they need better training on animal hoarding mental illness.

I agree... and yet can't imagine how lonely she'd be all alone with no animal. Perhaps only one or two healthy animals she could care for, AND mental health treatment required to keep them.
