What about Fredericksburg? While it’s on the edge of the DMV, you still have the express lanes to get you into DC. Shopping is abundant and the downtown area is steep in the country’s rich history, surviving both the Revolution and Civil War.
Housing is a bit high here but that’s to be expected with the proximity to NoVA and DC.

I moved from Virginia Beach to Roanoke Va in 2000 due to traffic as going to work 13 miles away was a 1 hour drive if you were lucky. Roanoke is a railroad town with less than 100k and rust hour is maybe a 15 minute delay due to a traffic accident.

In VA, Arlington Co. and then Fairfax county have the highest cost of living due to proximity to DC jobs, next being Loudoun Co. IMO, McClean, Fairfax. Co. is the best city to live in if you work in DC, has a family to raise, and money is not an option. It has the best public schools, close to everything, but very, very expensive. Ashburn, Loudoun Co. is a best place to raise a family if you don’t mind a longer compute to DC, the housing is about 40% less than McLean. The metro trains comes out to Ashburn, and has stops in Herndon, Reston, Vienna, etc. to DC, but compute to DC will take about hour and half. There are many other great places to work and raise a family, but it all depends on your budget. Outside of Northern VA, my choice would be Charlottesville with a cost of living being just over 3% of national average. You can find employment at University of VA, UVA hospital, Northrop Grumman to name a few.

In opinion Va is more expensive mostly up north but more beautiful, Texas is less expensive but less beautiful but you can find some areas that are. I've lived in both. If you choose Va for the first time I would probably go somewhere like the tidewater area of Virginia or Richmond.
If you choose Texas, you may like Austin depending on what type of person you are, it is a very vibrant city for the most part. You may like Houston but them roads are jacked up out there. Fort worth is kind of dull , Dallas would probably be better. El paso is super dusty, Corpus Christi is where the water is but when you get there it may look like it recovered from a hurricane recently depending on if you come in from the bus, I wouldn't recommend it. Do not I repeat do not choose San Antonio, but aye whatever if you feel like that's where you wanna go , then by all means go.

Lots of ppl live near DC for lots of reasons, and are happy. Big homes, small homes, and everything in between. It’s a privilege to help those that are open to it. It’s not abt the commissions here, my friend. Have you lived here before?

I've made it to 7 and I'm out. I'm hearing west virginia is theorist ocst of living in the US. Cheap to live but you saling expensive real-estate. This video might be great for rich retired CEOs or executives. Not for me.

Living in West Virginia has a lot of benefits, especially the lower cost of living overall. The great thing about Northern Virginia is the amount of opportunities for people that aren’t rich CEOs to find a lane and a meaningful lifestyle.
Curious, what stands out to you about West Virginia other than the cost of living?

Virginia is over rated and over PRICED. High property taxes. Tell me what you think? Have a nice day, be safe and careful.

One the things that’s helpful to look at is migration patterns. There are a number of cities in Virginia that have seen migration rates higher than the National average over the last ten years. But the trends over the last three years are also important.
Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Ashburn continue to rank highly among the best cities to live in America. What are your thoughts on that?

If you get away from NOVA (D.C area) like around Staunton is by far a better place to live in Virginia

@@ZacharyMeeks86 Yes. That's the cool thing abt VA: you can literally stay in the same state and have different quality of life experiences

I've lived in VA for over 40 years, property taxes are not high, but property values are in certain areas, which of course will increase the taxes. VA is about midway on the national scale for property tax, not low and not high, ranks at about #18 out of 50 on a low to high scale.

      @@justmuoki,
I think whoever ranked those as top places to live have bumped their head!
Central Virginia say an hour west of Richmond to the south and west is where Virginia shines with reasonable real estate prices, minimal traffic woes and lots of rural area to get away from the crowds.
Hampton roads area probably averages two to three shootings a day and Richmond has its share of high crime as well.

The best place in our beloved VA is the Middleburg - Uperville - Plains Triangle!!!!

Don’t know why you pick NOVA cities. Who wants to live in endless suburbia?

A lot of people, tbh. I take it ur not in NOVA?
