Watched a couple different videos, so I could replace the power steering pump on my 2008 Forester. This, by far, was the most detailed and useful of them. Thank you for your thoroughness, including all the torque spec's. Great job!
There are other videos out there that take the pump out by removing the two torx bolts and the rear bolt. I just did my 2009 Outback's steering pump, and *THIS* is the right way to do it. The third bolt - in back - that he eventually takes out (17:00) goes through a slot in the pump. The only way I had clearance to get it out, and get things back in, was to pull the bracket like this guy does. For the pulley, the problem isn't the pulley, it's the nut that holds it on. I had to soak it in liquid wrench *and* hit it twice with a propane torch to get it to break free. The pulley itself popped off without a puller. Well done!
Thank you for this video. You saved my family from a costly repair !!! I was able to replace the pump with no issues. Thanks for including the piece about how to move the bushing to make room for the new pump. I never would have gotten past that part if it wasn't for your explanation!!
I have a problem with my steering pump which now I know how to fix it. The oil is all around the spot but I will try to fix it accordingly. Thanks for the video! Well done !!
my man! thank you so much for doing this video. I am not looking forward to doing this, after just trying to change all the brakes out, and snapped some bolts...I now remember how much I hate working on Subaru's.
Very good details showed in the video that you would not see in other videos, absolutely awesome job on the video, Thank you for sharing and God bless you my friend and your family. Excellent video
Great video, detailed and very thorough, and the close ups were very helpful. I discovered a neat trick when trying to back out the bushing on the bracket. I put a large socket over the back of the bushing, then used a C clamp to squeeze it back. Worked great!
I have the exact same sound from my 2007 LGT Spec B, thank you for taking the time to make this fantastic thorough video! You have sparked some confidence to give it a go myself, cheers!
Very helpful video. Followed it step by step and had no problem, however now I think I have air in the steering system. Powersteering comes and goes and occasionally studders. I'm following the procedure to bleed the system, hoping that helps.
Great video for the basic replacement of the Power Steering Pump. The only thing that's missed is the system flush as you didn't actually know what went wrong with the old pump and it could have been as simple as dirty power steering fluid. I only mention it because I need to do a system flush as well and those instructions aren't here.
With this video and the very clear step-by-step help, I successfully made a first-time attempt to install a power steering pump, at the same time I also installed a new alternator. Thank-you! Do you have a video showing how to install a new cooling fan on the driver's side?
@@FixinBugsNStuff is there a small filter along any of the power steering lines that can be replaced or no? Also, if the pump is kinda noisy after installing a new one, what would you say could be the cause?
Does spinning the pulley like that constitute "bleeding" the system? Should I spin it until the reservoir stops bubbling to make sure there's no air left in the system? What about turning the wheel lock to lock? Is that only necessary when I'm doing a full flush of the fluid?
Man this is giving me a headache. I recently installed a new power steering pump on my 04 Legacy. Turning is better initially, but the more sharp turns I make, the more the steering wheel gets stiffer. I popped the hood and realized there's a pool of steering fluid that's leaking from the top of the new steering pump. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could try next?

I've watched hundreds of repair videos. This is the best by far. Incredible work: explanations, bolt & nut sizes and torques. Great work!
Glad to have helped.
This was really an informative video on steering pump replacement

great job, clear, good video , got to say one of the best I've seen TY for making this detailed video
Just changed mine. This video helped so much!

Gotta do mine. Got a new one off rockauto but need to swap pulleys now. Thanks for the vid bro. Nice explanations.
Glad to help.
Thank you for a complete how to video.
Glad to help.
Excellent video with all the information I was looking for! Will be changing out my own PS pump soon.
I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you.

Glad it helped you out. Sorry I don’t have a video on the fan removal.
Great detail 👌👍
I will get back to you if I have a problem!! God bless , thanks!
I hope it goes well.
Great video! Where would i replace the filter?
What filter are you referring to?
@@FixinBugsNStuff is there a small filter along any of the power steering lines that can be replaced or no? Also, if the pump is kinda noisy after installing a new one, what would you say could be the cause?
@@JBFlys09 air in the system would cause noise. Some people put in an inline filter which is suppose to make the rack and pinion last longer.

where did you get the pump? I cant seem to find any good ones with the nice pulley and such you have there.
Thank you for the video. Where did you get the pulley for the pump?
I used the old one from the broken pump.
Great video. Why did you fill the pump with ATF?
Manufacturer required to fill with ATF.
what kind of hand drill is that at 3min??
That is a Milwaukee battery operated ratchet. I love it.
I just did mine. The steering is great but when I go all the way to the left or right there's a loud squeak sound. I have no idea why
Probably belt.
What about bleeding the system?
Did you use an oem pump or generic? If generic, any recommendations?
Generic pump from eBay.
I think I can do this 😬 Thanks.
Looks like you installed an aftermarket pump. I've heard from a few sources that none of them are any good.
I hope that anybody looking to change the power steering pump on their EJ powered vehicle on their own finds this video. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
When you spin the pump by hand, could you also fill the reservoir up to the low cool line then spin it until there are no bubbles left?
Yes you can fill it to the low fill line and spun the pump by hand to get the bubbles out.
I don’t think you added enough lock tight lol

replace the O- Ring that seats on the top of the pump, the hose goes into the resevoir
where did you get this pump from?
I got the pump off of eBay. There is a bunch on there.
@@FixinBugsNStuff THanks i got one and used your video to help put it in and it works perfectly now. thanks for the detailed video
@@Canadabis20 glad it helped.
i broke the plastic piece that’s on the power steering pump i don’t know what to do now
Do you mean the inlet for the tube? Those can be replaced.
thank u
I hoped it helped.

Replace the o-ring that connects to the high pressure line. Get the air out of the lines. It may be the new pump could be defective.
