I like the trade a lot! We got a good younger pitcher that can become a solid piece of the rotation moving forward. Sad to see Tommy Edman go, but everything has gone fine without him playing. All of your points about his role are spot on. His injury, unfortunately, ended up costing him his spot. Tommy Pham coming back is going to be fun, too.

Excellent trade. Hate seeing Edman go but takes something to get something. Traded a surplus with the emergence of Siani & Donovan's versatility for two needs. Pham mashes lefties & I have always loved his drive plus plays all outfield spots. Fedde has been outstanding & is locked in for next year.

  • @davidcobler5705

Hey JD; I like the trade👍. Cards always “pin point” their needs and usually find just the right puzzle piece that fits that need. Here they did it in a 2 for one move, filling two holes in the puzzle.
The 40 man roster is always evolving and revolving due to developments of player personnel, making trades become necessary.
The hot buyers market makes this deal appear even more impressive when you consider all the teams in the hunt for the best talent they can find to be available.
I give Mo an A on this year’s deadline deal.
Very well done analysis JD! I give you an A+!! You are carrying a 4.0 grade for the year as well! 👍😊👍

Mo is so good making these moves as history shows. I will miss Tommy! Hes a natural at any position..i wish him the best and a full recovery with that wrist. Dodgers taking a chance on him who hasnt played this year. Im surprised for sure. No high tier prospects that are healthy were traded for a forner number1 Fedde who has a near 3.00era 7wins 4 losses on the sox the worst team in basball. Pham is another fiery guy and batted 422 in the world series last year with a homer. It is posible he will play full time against lefties as we need offence to support our starting pitchers. Hoping for a solid bullpen help. We hit the ball hard against evaldi but atom balls hurt..good coverage JD!👍🏆⚾️

Perhaps the player to be named later from the Dodgers could be a pitcher. That would be a really good thing.
Carlson has to go. Perhaps they can get a relief pitcher for him. I don't think that the Yankees would be willing to swap him even Steven for Juan Soto... 😂😂
JD, can't they get something for Gallegos? Gallegos and Carlson in a package with a couple of minor leaguers?
Another starter would be fantastic! But we know Mo and Mr. Stingy. However, my compliments to them on this trade. The Cardinals are definitely better with this trade. Glad to see an older Tommy Pham. I think it will be good, real good. We do need attitude. Complacency doesn't win ballgames. I hope Tommy hits a home run in his first game!!

Giving up Edman is a little painful but sometimes as we all well know in the game you have to make unpopular decisions to improve the team. • @jasonbarton4521
    @jasonbarton4521 Месяц назад +2

JD, great stuff! I'm easily unmoored by dissenting noise on social media, but, I was frequently astonished at those who claimed Edman was worthless as a .260 hitter w/ no slug.
If you examined Fangraphs leaderboards over the past 5 years, particularly on the defensive side, you'd see a guy whose DEF metrics were truly insane, e.g., 17.7 during his 5+ WAR 2022 season.
Yet, as much as I hate to see him go, Mozeliak - w/ little breathing room under DeWitt's $$ constraints - spun this trade into gold. For all the brickbats hurled his way - some earned - this ranks just behind the Arenado & Goldy acquisitions as one of his best.
It's a testament to his perseverance and deft handling of a complex deal.

Fedde has had 3 good months. 5 years with the Nationals with a 5.41 era. Never pitched over 133 innings. Already at 121 this year. History says this guy will gas out or his arm will hurt and require Tommy John. He will end the year closer to a 4.00 to 4.50 ERA.

I think Strickland would be a nice fit, and help JoJo, Kittredge, and Fernandez in the backend!

I agree with you. Not only do I think Mo hit a grand slam on this one, but I don’t even understand what the White Sox are getting out of this?
They must LOVE Perez, Albertus, and/or the PTBNL, because I just don’t get it. How do the White Sox go into a deal with the Cards wanting Edman and end up, not only sending him to the Dodgers, but also throwing Tommy Pham into the deal?
I get it for the Dodgers. That makes a lot of sense. Easy B+, maybe even an A-.
I certainly get it for the Cards. Solid A. Maybe even an A+ when you consider the salary swap between Pham/Edman and the rotation discount with Fedde in 2025.
But the Sox? I was expecting them to get a lot more for Erick Fedde… C-, at best.

JD can you just call it the way it is... this was a one step backward to take one step forward trade. The cardinals are stuck because the 3rd richest owner in baseball refuses to allow the team to spend another dime. Ownership is unwilling to spend to correct mistakes. The team lost to Texas last night as I predicted, they'll lose again tonight to MAX, and maybe they'll get swept. We've fallen behind the PIrates in the playoff race, we're not a playoff team. We should be SELLERS NOT BUYERS! The Cardinals with a SET AMOUNT 175 appears to be it... spending. We need a full reset. We should be rebuilding the farm system and waiting out Miles, Matz, trade Nolan, trade Gray, let go of Lynn, Gibson, move on from Gorman, Nootbar and the rest. They should be trading away everyone and rebuilding from a payroll of around 50 million. When you're ready to make the big move pull the trigger. Ownership should stop kidding themselves, they're not getting 3 million fans this year, next year will be worse, Cards are heading to a two million tickets sold with more like 1.5 actual attendance. That will be the future for this team over the next 5 years regardless of trying to stay a 500 team and pretend they're competing or they totally rebuild. This trade was desperation trade. It was a very sad move it reminding me of the offseason give GRAY A BUNCH OF MONEY to be your #1 when any of the playoff teams he's a #4. Bring in two other older guys on one year deals. Waste of time. Start the total rebuild.

A terrific trade. Fedde is a decent and fairly consistent pitcher. Pham brings some freaking life to the clubhouse and on the field. The Cards are about as exciting as paint drying. They need some excitable players and a solid veteran. Goldy and Nado aren't playing that role and Carp is equally quiet. Losing Edman is no big deal to me. Fun aside: I think I saw someplace that this is the 3rd time that Tommy Pham has been traded TO a team that has Chaim Bloom in the FO. I'm kinda thinking Chaim really likes what Tommy brings to a team, too! I'll defer to the experts!
My overall grade: A fuckin' PLUS!

This trade is all about 2025. Mo knows the Cardinals aren't making the playoffs only KOOLAID drinking Cardinals fans think we're making the playoffs. This team doesn't have a SINGLE ACE - or a SINGLE offensive superstar. BTW for those who don't know what a SUPERSTAR IS JUDGE is a Superstar, Skenes is an ACE. Pirates got that guy from being bad... we should be trading away everyone to start over. But the Cardinals only care about MONEY... they're giving the appearance they're TRYING! This trade proves they aren't trying. Trading away TOMMY when he returned he'd be one of your top 4 offensive players makes ZERO SENSE! Dodgers wanted Edman because they want to WIN. Dewitt cares about money even at 80 years old he runs the teams like SCROOGE not a billionaire with an ego! Can you imagine Jerry Jones owning the Cardinals it he might spend 400 million on payroll to win... he doesn't care about any thing but winning and his ego. Our owner cares about money, cold hard cash. HES WORTH 4 BILLION DOLLARS FOR GOD SAKES he can spend every penny the Cardinals make on player... he can do it this once to get the team back on track with the fans and he just spit in your face!

I wouldn't say its a great trade but i dont mind it whos to say edman will b healthy this yr we got 2 solid players n return it helps the team rite now and nxt yr i def would of rather lost nootbar Carlson or walker instead of edman but his injury this yr sealed his fate just circumstances i hope this trade wrks out and hopefully there not done we need a reliever still mayb we can get 1 for carlson there's a roster spot that needs freed up go cardinals!!

@@tylerbenlien6093 yes id rather have edman than noot or walker he's a bttr hitter and defender plays more positions hes more valuable thats y the dodgers wntd him and there a top contender lol walker is struggling still n the minors he may be a bust srry and noot hasn't done more in the mlb than edman has so u must not no baseball walker ain't no lock to b great there's been plenty of prospects that didn't pan out time will tell unless we're like u an hav a crystal ball😂😅

Pop Warner sucks 👎. The loss for tonight's game goes to Pop Warner! Why in the eff would he hold up Noot in the 7th? A total dumba$$ move that prob cost us the game. 😠

Fedde is a much improved pitcher and they needed a solid dude... Pham hits LHP they need someone to hit LHP more like mash like Pujols did in there last winning year, but I digress

And edman has been out 9 months going 0 for everything at AA not even playing the field you have no idea how the wrist will hold up… he was making 9.5 million next year… Fedde makes less Pham comes off the books after 2024… you seriously don’t understand how Dewitt lets Mo do business!
