  • On Today's podcast, we speak to Randall Warnas, the CEO of Anzu Robotics (www.anzurobotics.com/). Headquartered and operated within the U.S, Anzu robotics claims to be a secure and reliable solution to the proposed DJI ban. But where is the Raptor drone being made and is it NDAA compliant ? Join us as we speak to Randall about this new drone and how it seems very familiar but is fundamentally so different.

If the government had an issue with DJI they never should have let them sell here in the first place! This is not about security! It never is. This is about money and it pisses me off as I own several DJI products. Like you said in the video, “what about a popular little cell phone currently being sold in the US”. I can guarantee you that cell phone collects way more info than any drone.
We also have something called the grandfather clause. All DJI drones currently owned should be given a pass at bare minimum.
All this bs makes me think that we need to start building our own drones. Personally I’m tired of the bull s**t from the government and these so-called politicians. We shouldn’t even need a damn license to fly a drone of ANY weight recreationally.
Keep pushing and people will eventually push back.

When will we get to see the software platform. Is it DJI Pilot 2? A clone of? Or something different? Not everyone understands the difference between software and firmware.

I like the business plan, the whole concept of taking a successful product and making it NDAA-compliant. And does the green color allude to the company producing "Green UAS" drones...(Green UAS certification assesses and verifies commercial drones meet the highest levels of cybersecurity and NDAA supply chain requirements)... Randall sounds like he knows what he's doing and the background to support it. Thanks for sharing, Paul.

Great video, at the beginning Paul mentioned this option at an affordable price. The prices I seen last week was significantly higher compared to original design dji price. BUT, if this is the ONLY acceptable and successful option, they will sell...No problem.

I truly wish them luck and see them filling the space well. I also hope the ban doesn’t happen as someone who has invested a lot in DJI drones. But even if the ban does Not happen, I see Anzu being successful. So many other industries I’m involved in, people will buy and prefer things that are simply not made in china, ban or not.
    Competition is good 🤙

I hope the ban doesn't happen and I also hope Anzu succeeds. If DJI is banned, I think Anzu will get decent sales from the bigger drone companies like DroneUp and others at first. I'm guessing and hoping it'll just take time for the price to lower for the hobbyists and small drone businesses to be able afford a Raptor or if they release a whole different drone.
Also, this is very wishful thinking, but if Anzu made a way for current DJI owners to take their drones to them and somehow detangle the software and other things from China, that would be cool. Otherwise I guess our DJI drones will be relics on our shelves of the drone industry.

This is a feature I've wanted in my drones. I like to take progress photos of a house being built. I'd like to set geo locations(height, angle camera, zoom, etc), label that location and press a button. It jumps to that spot and takes that picture for me.
Also aerial time lapse. I'd love stationary aerial of a project. When the batteries die the drone comes down, I replace the battery and it flies back up to continue.
Another is premapping an aerial Timelapse. Seeing the flight path line, raising or lowering that path. Setting where to focus then when to drop focus and keep that steady angle. I love getting freeway traffic as golden hour. Also being able to calmly slow down where it doesn't look too harsh and slow to a stop fixed position to ride out the last of the Timelapse.

@@reconnservices you can do the same visits but you can't edit after the fact. Say it gives you low res thumbnail mapping so you can up or down your path, have a battery swap feature and home is where the remote controller is

How is buying a drone for twice the price + even considered a " Solution " ? we wont even be getting the software goodies that make such drones worth buying , major risk without justification .

If this ban does go through I think this company can make a killing if you could just send them your drone they could flash firmware and send me a new controller.
Instead of made in America, refurbished in America.
Good interview. Can't wait for the review, especially of the software.

There will have to be a grandfather clause or something. It can’t be legal to buy and use today and can’t use it tomorrow. That’s affects consumers pockets.

@@joshfrisby8616 it's about optics, not reality. They don't understand how the Facebook works. Remember Huawei. They destroyed their commercial business over night in the US which in turn killed the consumer one as well. They made really good laptops and phones. They were as good as Apple and Samsung and you can't even buy them anymore.

If it has a gps in the controller or tracks this type of info it’s the same security concerns as DJI.
I think a well built fpv drone even with enhanced sensors is only alternative for heavy security use. They certainly are more capeable and powerful.
The software is a concern with this drone you are discussing.
Homebuilt drones again eliminate this concern. Utilizing open source ,non commercially traceable software.

What about hobbyists? We're the ones that developed drone tech. It was a hobbyist who took a Wii remote and made the first practical "drone". By eliminating companies like horizon hobby iflight emax etc they will destroy the pathway for engineers who even develop this stuff. Not to mention what dat could they possibly get from my rc plane or my fpv drone. They literally collect 0 data. I get kids interested in STEM tech using drones this would destroy all that. Check out US Drone Soccer. We've grown quickly in the past few years getting tech back into schools. There is a shortage of engineers and mechanics due to taking tech out of schools. I'm all for us manufacturing but no one makes this stuff in the US

  • @alacazaba

Bet you $100 that this drone will NOT be sold in China. Not because of price, it won't be sold in China BECAUSE the Chinese government outlaws the sale of any foreign drone which utilizes GNSS/GIS tech or collects GNSS/GIS data within China. American MFG's have a good right to petition for the gov't to do something about that imbalance, they cannot sell their drones in China but Chinese drones can be sold the US? How is that economically fair? And, if you add in the fact that DJI is a monopoly - a foreign monopoly - with billion$ plus in financial backing of Chinese state investment funds, it's entirely unfair and hurts domestic mfg.
It would be good to see Anzu expand beyond the licensed DJI M3 line, collab with other politically safe companies, ideally in the US. And above all, Anzu should look to be active in petitioning the gov't when it undertakes a ban to offset that with help for domestic mfg/drone companies with tax credits, investment credits etc.
Also would be good if Anzu gave a comprehensive rundown of what is exactly DJI licensed, DJI mfg components, etc as well as their plan for the future. Where is the DJI custom silicon being mfg? Aloft does flight firmware, who does firmware for components/chips? BAckdoors/vulnerabilities in those? Security is 2FA or something higher, AWS can be very leaky, can I use my own server for data?.
