In some cases you're only as relevant as the equipment you own so you need to be very careful on what you buy based on what you want to do.

you're only as relevant as the deliverable you provide.

Sorry, I understand want you are saying but the DSP's tell you want equipment they're willing to work with so if you don't have it you don't work with them at least. I have personally experienced this first hand by purchasing the wrong drone and once I made the correct purchase all kinds of opportunities have opened up for me and of course training is still a key factor as well.

@@jgalbreathare you able to go into what specific drone you ended up having to get for the deliverables you needed to provide?

@@pin_high Sure, I will try to be brief I first purchased a Yuneec H520e and Autel Evo Pro 2 thinking these were the newest drones available and work will be available. However outside of real-estate I was not able to do construction, mapping, thermal and inspection work with those drones. I had to go back and purchase a used Mavic 2PRO to start mapping and inspections then once the M3 enterprise came out I was able to do more jobs per day because it was just Simply faster. I started to receiving request for the thermal and once again DJI was at the top of the list so I purchased a Matrice 30T and never looked back. Now I have several contracts and now they were requesting more accurate data so I had to pick up a RTK module for my M3E and that was all based on what equipment the DSP'S wanted to work with. Now don't get me wrong I had the work on my skills and be committed to delivering their deliverables on time under their specifications. Now I'm working towards wind turbines and Telcom inspections.

@@pin_highHello, I started with a Autel 2 Pro and Yuneec H520e big mistake that cost me thousands because all I could get were real-estate jobs from the DSP'S. Now I had to buy an older drone like the Mavic 2 Pro just to get mapping jobs but upgraded to the Mavic 3 Enterprise and Matrice 30T and the doors swung opened I now have several contracts and Thermal jobs. This is all because of the equipment the DSP's required and training. I am currently doing construction, inspections and ortho mapping on a regular basis.

I think overall you answered the question of confidence vs competence with comfort level. Your comfort is the base of your income to be sure and the name you make for yourself is the reflection. Thanks

The toxicity comes from the anonymity of social media. As a former truck driver, we called them Radio Rambo's. Long before the internet, but still allowed anonymous attacks.

You guys have been and continue to be a very helpful resource for me as I start down this path. I started life as a commercial pilot and did that for 15 years. Then I changed careers and worked as a paramedic for the last 10. Now I’m setting out on my own starting my own drone business. I have been leaning on your content to help a lot. I can’t thank you enough.

You know before I decided to start my drone business I had an interest and thoughts in taking business courses and so I started my drone Business venture without one. Now I'm hearing that you have a business course!? It definitely perked up my ears because oftentimes I get a feeling of I should have taken business courses before I did especially when I get feelings of doubts about myself and in the things that I'm doing.

Thanks for the comment. There is definitely a balance to be had here. While being better at the "business" side of things is of course important, we believe jumping in and getting experience is just as important, if not more so. Too many people will wait for the perfect time, opportunity, etc. and never really commit. Good for you for going for it!

The biggest mistake new drone pilots make is listening to RUclipsr's like Paul "Two Last Names" Alexander/Aiken. You know, the guy that lied to everyone about using a section of Part 91 to avoid having to comply with Remote ID under Part 107. The guy that still owe's Vic Moss $15,000.00. The guy that had to move his entire business out of NM to CO because he couldn't get work anymore. "People are say'n" he pissed everyone off down there and nobody would work with him anymore.
Its not just Paul and DroneU. You got Greg at Pilot Institute telling people that using a LEGAL 2.4Ghz wifi device to broadcast fake RID signals would be illegal (it's not). Ya got Ken "Watch me do this" Heron that likes to use his drones to purposely piss people off for clicks. How about Russ at 51 Drones that tells people that its okay to sit in your car, roll the windows up and stay warm in the cold months while operating your drone. A Clear violation of 107.31. I won't even talk about Botgrinder or Bardwell that constantly give bad advice and post misinformation. Taking advice from strangers online is rather shortsighted. Why listen to that Russ at 51 Drones? His drone business is a complete failure. Listening to talking heads on social media is without a doubt the biggest mistake new pilots make.
Now rather than deleting my post and banning my account Paul... Why not be a man and have a mature conversation?
Do you stand by your "How to legally avoid Remote ID" video?

Good video Paul and Rob but you forgot one point it appears. “When you become a total failure one tends to become very jealous and lashes out at their far superior competition like Drone-U, Pilot Institute, and 51 Drones as can be witnessed in the above statements.” Let’s just compare a few metrics and we will just use Drone-U vs the loser competition WOTHFOV as one example. Drone-U has 63.1k subscribers and published 1.2k videos on RUclips. The other has 197 subscribers and published a whopping 11 videos on RUclips with 99.9% of them over a year ago. Oh, and make no mistake that a “k” was not accidentally left off of those numbers for the loser. Looks like the loser WOTHFOV is from CO as is Drone-U now. Maybe loser is just pissed that a far superior competition took all of their business and instead of trying to compete all they know how to do is Troll. WOTHFPV, may I make a suggestion? Why don’t you and your buddy Dick Moss slither on back into mommy’s basement and play video games or watch more age appropriate RUclips videos. It appears you found a video where adults were having a conversation that’s obviously over your head. Here, let me tell you how to do it. 1) Open RUclips 2) Go to the search string 3) Type in 7-13 yr old videos and watch “Thomas The Train” or something and leave the drone business videos to the adults. 😂

@@bigdaddyjuicerfpv2033 Nope I can assure you it’s not Paul. Just a subscriber to the channels you and your buds like to Troll with no meaningful input. You guys could actually learn something, especially from this video if you spent as much time on the video as you do Trolling. I see your another one from CO, man competition must be fierce out there for little cliques like yourself to be so insecure and want to bash all these far superior channels. You know instead of hanging out in the basement Trolling channels with your loser partner you might could actually build a successful RUclips channel yourself if you half tried. I mean you already have 7 subscribers to a “no content” channel yourself. For the rest of us trying to learn something can you explain how you do that? I mean wow that’s pretty good! 👍 Look forward to your meaningful feedback.
