Worse, is the AWFUL Christian myth that the Bible automatically conveys the skills to understand it. The Rabbis work tirelessly to understand the very text that Christians gloss over. Why? Rabbis think it takes work. Some Christians believe that God exempted them from work by Grace. Jesus came to permit them to be lazy babies in their bassinets.

Carlos did not hear a single word the hosts said. He had a script in his head and acted as though they were following it. Apologists are the most dishonest people on the planet.
The biggest problem with the bible is that people who believe it don't actually deconstruct it. They don't look at it from an outside perspective. Case in point being this book is a compilation of stories written and told thousands of years ago. Exactly how intelligent were those people at that time. Did those people even know a place like Austrailia even existed let alone the other planets in our solar system or viruses, bacteria, allergic reactions, tectonic plates etc. So how would a group of people describe what they were seeing without the knowledge we have today.

One should open the bible and read the living word of God because when one does so with the right motive (seeking the truth) they will come to know the one and only true living God/Jesus Christ/Holy Spirit. One must be born again to know Jesus Christ (the Living Word). Those who reject the truth (Jesus Christ) have a proud and arrogant mind set to disbelieve the fact that they are a sinner in need of God's Grace and mercy. If a man says he has never done wrong/sinned he is a liar, and the truth is not in him. There is only one who walk the face of the earth and never sinned; God/Jesus Christ himself, the God/man, the Son of God, the Lamb of God, the Prince of Peace, the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings, the Redeemer, Savior of souls.

There cannot be an overarching meaning to it that one author wrote into it without reading one into it, because there wasn't one author! Bloody hell! Seriously. The people that say "This book is the only source of truth in the world and everything else including reality is a lie" really, really grind my gears. They don't even know the nature of their own book, let alone it's history. And to then condescendingly tell other people how to read it.. Augh. Arrogant argument from ignorance. The whole 'inerrancy' thing is a farce. It's painfully obvious that it's not all true. And the people who most recently voted to maintain the facade of inerrancy both knew and accepted that. Their reason for maintaining the inerrancy fantasy was out of fear of the consequences of admitting that they had been wrong the last time they claimed it was inerrant. "If we admit we were wrong, it'll mean we're also admitting we lied. We can't do that!" Which is one of the many problems with being certain of anything and building a society on that certainty. It's also why many believers hate science. Science doesn't claim to be 100% certain of anything. The best it will do is say something is beyond reasonable doubt or that there is no evidence to the contrary and similar. Absolute certainty is where thinking goes to die. Sorry. Atheist; "I have no belief in your god and consider the bible to be a mostly anonymous collection of myths and legends, full of errors, absurdities, contradictions, and outright lies. Why should I believe anything in it?"
Christian; "But the bible says..."
The Bible has been accepted as authoritative for so long in Christianized societies, I think it genuinely confuses people like Carlos that the hosts aren’t taking the Bible’s authority as a given. He treats quoting the Bible as you would the dictionary. 🤦♀️
@@A-WallfromALYou're exactly right. They can't even fathom that someone could even possibly consider the bible to be just a book.

“Why should I open the Bible?”
“Look, I haven’t cursed at you so don’t curse at me!”
wtf?
No one's cursed at you yet sir, but give us a minute
Why don't we open a newspaper? If you want to prove a god, you shouldn't need the bible to do it. You should be able to provide evidence independent of that book 😂
You know someone isn't thinking straight when they think the word 'Why' is a curse word.
When the caller said "Pick any verse out of the bible", they should have gone to the one that Matt uses about slavery. Let's see what he has to say about that.
Jim and the "with great power comes with great responsibilities" was excellent
Frankly, I think Spider Man is more useful as a moral guide than many religious texts. You cannot beat the elegant simplicity of “with great power comes great responsibility.” I cannot think of a situation where that would not be true.
Pour one out for the great prophet Stan Lee. 🍷
I never really liked the Scarlet Spiders costume. I thought the hoody was a bit too excessive. A red costume with a large white spider on the chest would have been way cooler.
Poor Carlos. He started with the assumption that the bible is "true."
That's where this conversation went off the rails. Literally from the first words.
He was incapable of stepping back to the actual beginning point of the exchange.
He so badly wanted to use the bible to "prove" God that he couldn't bring himself to actually examine why anyone should assume the bible is accurate.
@@paulgemme6056 Blah, blah, blah
Same crap, different day.

Don’t forget the policing of people’s language.
"If you want to put god on trial" He repeats this phrase over and over again. The only one being put on trial is himself 😆
How do you even put something you don't believe in on trial?
God was accused of existing.
The jury was not convinced, thus God was not convicted of existing.
The cognative dissonance really sets in when they have to face the fact that people don't give a shit about their Bible
And in the same way, in Harry Potter snape's first words to Harry (using potion ingredients) basically translates as 'i bitterly regret Lily's death.
Carlos, Carlos. Please open your ears if you want to start any conversation. Your buybul doesn't prove your favorite super hero. Come on, you can do better.😅
This is one of the best examples of a caller just waiting for his turn to talk I've seen in a while
Friend was at his house years ago trying to start a firepit and get his food started, but the wood was a little wet.
Some evangelists came up to him in the yard and started the routine asking him if he knew Jesus while handing him a pamphlet.
Without hesitation he grabbed the pamphlet and used it to start the firepit.
They gasped in horror and quickly left, that church never came back.
Carlos did not hear a single word the hosts said. He had a script in his head and acted as though they were following it.
Apologists are the most dishonest people on the planet.
Carlos is another example of another believer that has NEVER heard arguments from the "other side"! Sad but True.
I'd say that you should replace the word "bible" with "religion", just as true and cover way more.
@@klebbe1yes it would and religion is in fact the same thing. The comment was directed specifically at this one book about this one religion. All religions follow the same premise to date so far.

This caller has not heard the saying, "the path to atheism is lined with well read bibles".
They could have saved ten minutes by just letting Carlos make his point at the beginning, and then explained why the Bible is not special.
Given his druthers I don't think Carlos would have stopped yapping in a mere 20 minutes.
@@paulgemme6056Yeah, you just said the same thing elsewhere, but I’ll only reply once.
Thank you Carlos!! For perfectly illustrating the many problems associated with indoctrination and religion. Great inadvertent job!!

Someone tell Carlos that the bible did not exist when Jesus was alive.
The idea of salvation is a NT concept. It is not in the OT. That negates the ridiculous name game applogist play with OT genealogy.
Very good point. As I recall the Jews have no concept of hell. No one would take Religion seriously without the concept of hell. Everything else is negligible
@@nopeaceforme837 Any concept of hell that appears VERY late in the Hebrew Bible is a result of the Babylonian Captivity where the dominant religion was Zoroastrianism with the concept of hell was introduced and was incredibly influential in the formation of Christianity. Before that, theHebrews were more concerned about the here and now. All of Yahweh’s blessings and curses affect the here and now. The afterlife was called Sheol, which was influenced by the Greeks with Hades.
If all those words in Genesis have secret meanings, how did Carlos learn the secrets?
Oh, how is it I never got this before? God inspired an old text in Hebrew, sent a Messiah who spoke Aramaic, whose second generation of followers wrote what he (supposedly) said in Greek so whenever we read the Bible, in English, 2000 years later, we can finally decode the message! Genius!
Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing was greatly useful to me when I was a kid learning fishing. The bible was no use at all on any subject.

I did open the Bible. In fact it was a Bible given to me from my born against Christian neighbor in the 90s. That Bible is what led me to become an atheist.
“Come on, guys, please, just open the book I like, please just open it!”
"The whole Bible is written in such a way that-" NO. I'm fed up with hearing this one. The 'whole bible' was not written. It was COMPILED. It is a compilation of seperate texts.
Sorry. Evidently I've had that rant building for a while. Feedback welcome, as always.
Exactly-people want certainty, even though it doesn’t exist and no matter how preposterous the explanation they believe gives them perceived certainty is.
