@@LordGreystoke It's played during the scene when he leaves Jan and Rainey for a second time. I'm also just discovering this song/Kaki King after rewatching the movie and had to get it into my playlist.
Oops. Tons of guitarists who can tap, slap, do all sorts of wizardry, but this piece actually moves me emotionally unlike some other pieces. Her performance of it on a 7 string fan guitar is just exquisite...
Such beautiful playing using so many aspects of the instrument. I have seen her live twice in Australia. Her playing is just so refreshing and engaging , its like an effortless master class... Viva Kaki !
i learn't this song in an afternoon and i can't stop playing it, can't play it as beautifully as you can but yeah, i know you wont see this but if you do oh my god well done love, all of your songs are amazing.
I learned how to play this on guitar in my early days of finger picking, but I never did get the tapping. It's not as hard to play as it sounds (though I used a tab, it's an alternate tuning), but that only demonstrates the genius needed to create it. She's an awesome guitar player, really tapped into a feeling.
Classic young person response: shoot off mouth, then shoot foot. You will often find that the most talented people are ones you have never heard of before.
You were lucky. Back in my day we couldn't afford a guitar so I had to tune up my grandmother's clothesline and play it as best I could. I got tennis elbow once and frost bite in my feet from playing it in the snow but I could still play Leo Kottke's stuff just fine..
It's so weird you say that because that's exactly what I do! I just learn bits and pieces of songs and then go about my way. Maybe I get bored too easy, lol. Could be why half the stuff that I come up with, I can't even play. At least right off the bat. But once I get it, it's very fullfilling.
Why listening a video if you hate it? Her nails are perfects it she likes it that way, what gives you the right to decide what's right and what's what's wrong? I have a friend who's been playing guitar for 15 years in various Montreal's metal, jazz, indie and rock band who has his nails as long as Kaki King and he plays like a god! And, personally, I keep them very short, I like to feel the strings on the tips of my fingers. It's only a matter of taste.
I'm aware of that. I was responding to sploozy's "Flamingo" comment. This is a fun piece to play. Not a technically difficult tune, but pleasing nonetheless. I'm a huge fan of Kaki King, and I'm sure you'll find more of us here in the comments section. A travesty? That's absurd.
@thatnewguy23 yeah she's good for her age... she needs to spend some time with Tommy Emmanuel for some help with keeping a beat going during her transition between playing and drumming, though. The pause between the two is too empty.
***** Sure! the intro quality should be matching the overall video quality, there are unnecesary and outdated effects while she is about to play, and the fonts used are not of MY liking, but remember editing is always subjective and opinion-driven. Also the green-screen take overlapping the other one could just be the normal take zoomed out. I didn't mean to offend and sorry for the english
how complete is the lesson on the website? i noticed goby was explained as well, are tabs or sheet music provided for the lesson? i don't want to get a subscription and find that she breezes over most of song
I'm new to her music and I quite liked her instrumental stuff - not so much her more rock-oriented vocal songs. But one thing I've learnt is that Kaki King videos always contain a lot of hate coming from supposed guitar heroes who say stupid shit like "Bach invented music". Funny thing is the same names always get thrown around (Bach, Mozart and Beethoven) yet the people who bring them to the discussions quite often fail to realize their actual involvement in the development of Western music.
Please. Of course music is subjective. People make music because they feel it and everyone's feelings are different. By the way, she plays Ovation guitars 'cause she likes to. It doesn't matter if they aren't the best instruments in the world. And she has long nails because clearly she feels more comfortable that way. It's not your business how long a guitar player's nails are. Also, there's no need to randomly throw shit at people who just have different opinions. Have a nice day

Sorry to intelectual fellows who think classic musicians would laugh at this and that her nails are "too long" (like that matters) but for me this is fucking amazing. It sounds good, the girl can definetly play guitar, you can like or not but for me this is hot.
Also Mozart and Beethoven didn't "invent" music, and in fact Beethoven wrote his Seventh symphony by sawing the legs off of his piano and banging on the keys so he could hear the vibrations in the ground since he was going deaf. So it's debatable that banging on an instrument and picking out the vibrations it creates is still pretty much the definition of music.
I wish I could tune my guitar in the middle of a performance like she can. I've been trying to do it on the spot but sometimes I tune it past the sweet spot or the opposite direction lol. MAKES ME LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT ON STAGE >.
You're lucky too, mate. I'm a fucking koala. Every time I tried to play guitar, people would be like "dont be rediculous, you're a koala. You cant play guitar, go eat some eucalyptus n shit." you know what? they were right. I cant play guitar.
I remember the first time that I heard this song was watching the Film “Into The Wild”and damn it was hard to find, love it
Right? Finally found this song from that movie too and am glad I did
Hmm, I loved Into the Wild but don’t remember this tune at all as part of the soundtrack
@@LordGreystoke It's played during the scene when he leaves Jan and Rainey for a second time. I'm also just discovering this song/Kaki King after rewatching the movie and had to get it into my playlist.
Holy cow I totally forgot this song was in the movie.
Now I remember watching the movie and noticing the song in the cinema 😂
love it, she tuned the high e while playing....like a boss

Into the wild
dayum this girl knows how to play. loving the videos / songs i heard from her so far.
how can someone create such a masterpiece?
luck? hard work? The unknown? All if it I'm guessing lol
Such beautiful playing using so many aspects of the instrument. I have seen her live twice in Australia. Her playing is just so refreshing and engaging , its like an effortless master class... Viva Kaki !
That's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard or seen

I've loved your music since the first time I heard it. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent!
I love her voice.
Her singing voice is so pretty too. If you have never heard her song called Yellowcake I highly suggest looking it up. It is divine.
the way how beautiful she moves her hands makes the sound more better i swear.
she`s amazing

Must Admit Kaki King is really talented and her sig guitar sounds lovely

I couldn't put my finger on where i seen this girl and then it hit me....TED!

Linda. A música e a interprete!
the audio quality of this is the highest u will hear on youtube dreamy
The fingerpicking technique she is using is Travis Picking... I picked up on it :3
...back in the day we could not even afford feet, we had to walk to school uphill, in the snow on stumps. And we liked it, no, we LOVED it!
love it
her guitar playing truly is a work of god
Lovely ❤️
Thank you so much! This calmed me down enough to write music again....I'd say "bless you"...but that's academic. Nice git by the way.
Kaki King and Trace Bundy need to put out a duet record...
the shadow of the great John Fahey is on Kaki, in this tune
Beautiful
nice guitar.
People need to be themselves on the internet, too.
Stop fighting.
Woah I'm glad you turned me on to Leo though, very talented
I subscribed to JamPlay just to get lessons by Kaki King. Unfortunately my life is too busy now :(
@RonVermillion god bless you ron!
После фильма в Диких условиях как раз там играла эта гитара мне всегда хочется в горы в путешествие выйти на долго
Ha, classic old person response. Love it. "back in my day we used to crawl to school in the freezing cold, uphill both ways dammit"
It's so weird you say that because that's exactly what I do! I just learn bits and pieces of songs and then go about my way.
Maybe I get bored too easy, lol. Could be why half the stuff that I come up with, I can't even play. At least right off the bat. But once I get it, it's very fullfilling.
And i honestly want to know what kind of human being can dislike this...I mean not as a joke or anything

@destrilogy thats what i said, the companies name is ovation...
awesome, absolutely loved it :)
she's got a steam roller on that right hand

awesome
@Ca2roline I tuned it to F#, just a minutes ago and string didn't break. Although, I was very careful and worried will it break. But it didn't. :)
wow. i really like it
inability to appreciate doesn't constitute dislike. but i guess fresh can make some dizzy... soar on sister...
@Ca2roline I think she uses higher gauge strings for this exact reason.
Goooooood
into the wild
great........
Nice one
Kaki's face. 6:47
I lol'ed
@mrseeds ooo your analogy of thats was brillient, i may steal it ..... yeah i can see were your coming from

+Manuel Dengis You're forgetting this is EARLY 2010
No. I was watching this video in 2010 and the effects were definitely not there if my memory serves me right. This was added much later on, I believe.
I hope the lesson for this song is longer on the website... she didn't even get into the fingerpicking technique she is using for this song... :-/
Fuck. Now I have to grow out my nails. Nothing left to do then but play Kaki King songs and lots of flamenco.
how complete is the lesson on the website? i noticed goby was explained as well, are tabs or sheet music provided for the lesson? i don't want to get a subscription and find that she breezes over most of song
@since1876 two years later i would have to agree and maybe that change has already been made. Maybe she'll re-record :)
like si llegaste a este video en la cuarentena :)
Fake nails play a big role to get that sound. I love kaki king and I think she's a really inspired musician.

Typo on the title of the video. "Thing" instead of "Think".
I'd agree, to a degree, but eh, this is the internet. You don't have to read it, or care what's written. Like you said, it's beautiful.
@gtrslinger please take this somewhere else... As for anyone else, I literally can't figure out how to play this lol
Muito show Eu e o daniel blanco adoramos *-*

does anyone know what kind/brand of guitar that is, it looks really cool
She is sponsored by ovation guitars. Very cool
@@sc0tlandthebrave I appreciate the reply, but this was a while ago and I have figured it out, but thanks
i can't find the whole version on your website! can somebody tell me the chords?
