I've owned my Godox gear for about a year and a half. After this video, I might actually start using the TCM function finally. This is the clearest explaination and demonstration of it that I have found. Thank you, sir!
I knew the function was there, but never tried it. But I can see now, it works. And what an awesome model, the outfit she wears makes her SO trustworthy in that ligh setup. 10 ekstra likes from me, if I could.
Thannnnkkkksssss!! Thank you, it really helped me a lot, when you come from Ecuador you have someone who will take you everywhere to take pictures and meet
Excellent video Gavin. The Godox manual was vague, to some degree, on this subject and I now need to play with my trigger again now that I can make sense of the offered functionality. Thank you.
Just invested in 2 Godox V860II-N Speedlites and the XPro N Transmitter. Did not know what to do with them until I found this video from a year ago. No flash meter, one 30" umbrella, and just desire, no experience. I'm beginning to think I might already have a studio with that equipment, LOL. Thank you! ⭐x5
Good demo and beautiful model. Please thank her for me. This demonstration helped me clarify a few things about the TCM button that I wasn't getting by reading the manuals. I guess something was being lost in the Chinese to English conversion. Many thanks for making this video easy to understand. It was a big help. I wish I had found it sooner.
Another top tutorial Gavin. I prefer a flash meter because I rarely use TTL in studio but TCM is very useful for event shooting where I use TTL ( with flash compensation ) a lot. As you say, it's another tool to help you do the job 👍
Everybody with their R2 transmitter: Oh, that's what that button is for! Thank you Gavin for showing us how to utilize that function to make the most of high-speed sync.
Thanks for the explanation on tcm function. I've always used my flash meter for this..makes it pretty straight forward. I wonder how it would work outside?
Hi Gavin, that’s a fantastic video and the fact this works with high speed sync is especially useful as like you say a light meter doesn’t do it. Always love seeing your videos. I’d love to see some more specific editing videos on how you post process your portrait shots you have such a great painterly look to your final images. Thank you and I hope you and your family are staying safe with everything going on 🙏
I have the same equipment and use TCM all the time, but it was still a reassuring pleasure to see you explain it! And I didn’t know about the need to set it to the 200j, so thanks! Hope you keep creating fantastic content during the lockdown and that you and Sam stay healthy and safe.
Thank you Gavin for all the wonderful tips in lighting and special efx. Your enthusiasm is contagious. I'm an artist and I use you tips for reference when I shoot. Keep going don't stop😄😀😁
Wow this so informative. I just bought a Canon 250D only to find out ut doesn't have a center pin to trigger my Godox Xpro on manual mode. This information will help me as Im going to use TTL mode with exposure compensation for my portraits photoshoots. Also with the help of high speed sync to reduce overexposure. Thank you very much your videos are si helpful Sir.
EXCELLENT video as usual Gaven. QUICK QUESTION ANYONE: what if I’m using an AD 300 PRO, an AD200 PRO? Do I set for both separately? Also, will I get the proper exposure from the AD300 PRO even tho the transmitter says ‘360j ‘ ? THANKS IN ADVANCE.
Great Video, Just learning about TCM I love it question is In the beginning you set the trigger to 200J there is actually three choices 360J, 600J. I'm using gordox 860V so how do you know if I am using the correct setting for lights and trigger?
another great tutorial from Gavin, thanks for sharing 👍✨ Some cameras offer a "Flash Exposure Lock" or "Flash Value Lock" for the TTL auto metering ( FEL or FV button on the camera, see camera manual and menue for further details).
Thank you for this Great Tutorial, Gavin! I always used TTL oder ManualMode with HSS and got different exposures, because I don‘t knew the TCM-Function of my Godox transmitter. Greetings from Germany
Just stumbled upon this great video, thanks. Question - how would you do this if you were using 2 different types of flashes (I have a flashpoint 360 and a 600)? It seems like doing each separately (and changing the flash type in TCM) wouldn't work as the second flash is additive to the first and the model's face would be overexposed. If you just set ratios at the beginning with both flashes turned on TTL (say, the main light 600 at 0 FEC and the fill 360 at -2 FEC) it seems like it might work, but its not clear to me if the output of the group B flash (360 in this case at -2 FEC) would be powered at a 1:3 or 1:4 vs the 600 (assuming that the 360 has 50% of the power of the 600). Alot, I know, but interested in how this works. Thanks!
Great tutorial Gavin, using an AD 200 for my key light with TCM option set for the AD200, what will happen to by background light which is a lower powered speed light. Will a TTL shot then TCM work or must I measure this light with my flashmeter. I guess I will have to remember to change the TCM option value if I use a different flash for my key light also.
Great, nice and clear and also with multiple lights. I presume that if you're using a mixture of lights (I know the colour might be a problem), then can you just change the setting then use TCM again?
Hi Gavin: This video was so helpful. Like 'fmrff70' I simply couldn't understand my manual on the TCM function but you have eliminated this issue. Keep safe! Cheers, Keith ~ Barrie, Ontario Canada
I've been using this feature for years now especially when shooting in HSS & i absolutely love it. Really helpful & save a lot of guesswork especially when u need to work fast. My method for outdoor shoot, i ask the model to hold a grey card & set the camera metering to spot meter for a more accurate TTL reading. The shot does'nt need to be in focus, it juz need to fill the frame. Be aware of your own shadow as it might block the light if u shoot it really close or any glare if u shoot towards the sun coz it will disturb the TTL reading. Use lens hood if u have to or use your hand as a shade. Juz sharing. :)
Super helpful and informative video as always. Stumbled upon this function the other day after never trying it. Can see how it would be helpful when doing solo as well as run and gun shoots.
Excellent video Again!!! Question about the start when you set the transmitter to 200J when using Flashpoint 200. How do you set the transmitter if using a 600 as the key light, and (2) 200's as hair or accent lights. Thanks.
A very informative video. I really like hss flash photography. But unfortunately I don't own a flash metre I had to rely on multiple of test shots for doing hss. Thanks.
Thank you for a great channel and tutorial. Always learning new things from watching. Quick stupid question, will that transmitter work with Godox Ad200? Are the eVOLV 200 actually the same technology just different name?
Great pictures Gavin! Also, I got a question for you: Is it possible to do the same with the triggers X1T and X2T, because there is no dedicated TCM button? Thanks
Hi Telmo. No there's no TCM function on the X1T (Never used an X2T but it looks basically the same) Luckily you can probably upgrade your transmitter while keeping the same flashes if TCM would be useful for you.
Good video. I am planning to evolve (pun intended) to the Godox/Flashpoint system. Is the TCM feature also on the R2, or just on the Pro? I am leaning toward the R2, but the TCM feature seems like a very useful feature.
TTL is using a pre flash, so the flash will fire twice, first flash is before your shutter open, and your camera will meter and make adjustement to the second flash that fires during your exosure.
would this work while doing a shoot using mixed lights such as an xplor 600 key light and evolv 200hair light? and BTW thank you for the great videos always my favorites
so the whole time you keep the light on in the studio? or does it have to be turned off. new to this and the pics do look like there’s no other light in the room besides the flash and accent lights
does anybody know if I can mix flash types such as I have a AD200 and flashpoint 600 has. I always enjoy Gavin's videos and so glad he is part of the Adorama team.
Hi Bryan. You can mix them but only one will convert from TTL to manual accurately. Make that your key light and be ready to tweak the manual power of other if you use TCM.
I love Gavin. This video was way better than the fill flash/modifiers video last week in my opinion (no offense intended). This video is better because Gavin doesn't make me feel like a "gear nerd" because I love my gear; and by default would like to use the "somewhat" expensive gear I've earned. Gavin addresses just about everything he has to create the look, and addresses the premise of the video without compromising the company's sales plan. If you tell me I should be more creative at times and less technical I believe you. On the other hand, if you make that your video premise (cheap and creative) and put expensive profoto d2's in your video, when modifiers and cheap speedlights cost way less, I feel a bit confused to say the least. TCM Confused everyone to no end as a strong advocate for Adorama products. Now I can review send more business to Flashpoint well informed.
Great video as usual Gavin. I have a question concerning speed lights. Will the TCM function work with speed lights such as the Godox V860ii? I didn’t see an option to chose a lesser powered flash in setting up the TCM function. Thank you
Did you explain the lamp light in the background? Sorry if I missed it, but otherwise, I'm curious as to what kind of light is inside the bird cage? Is it a flash or continuous source? Especially using the higher shutter speeds, how did you manage so much light from it? Thanks.
Hi Michael. The lamp in the background is a mystery item 😉 It's there because it fitted in with the look and long story short... Charlotte and I were supposed to be doing an this demo and much more at a trade show and the lamp was an important part of that demo. Unfortunately the trade show got pulled for fairly oblivious reasons (at the time of writing).
Hi Gavin - another great video, always on a real life topic that's very helpful. I wondered if when setting up TCM you have to identify the actual flash unit you're using or just it's light output? Thanks in advance for your response.
I've owned my Godox gear for about a year and a half. After this video, I might actually start using the TCM function finally. This is the clearest explaination and demonstration of it that I have found. Thank you, sir!
In your videos things seems to be very easy just because explanations are very clear. Thanks Gavin
exactly what I was looking for. The one stop channel to get all my questions answered with simple easy to understand instructions....Thank You Gavin
Much appreciated. Was unsure about the intricacies of Godox' TCM, but you laid it out clear as day. Bullseye.
I discovered this a few months back, and it's a game changer. I haven't used my flash meter since.
I never thought of using TTL/TCM for high speed sync. Thank you for another awesome video!!!
I knew the function was there, but never tried it. But I can see now, it works. And what an awesome model, the outfit she wears makes her SO trustworthy in that ligh setup. 10 ekstra likes from me, if I could.
Gavin, your lessons are priceless! I can read the manual until I'm blue in the face! Sincerely, Thank you!
Wow! Thanks for giving me something to do while staying home during these difficult time.
Thannnnkkkksssss!! Thank you, it really helped me a lot, when you come from Ecuador you have someone who will take you everywhere to take pictures and meet
One of the top vloggers when it comes to photography. Awesome shots.
Excellent video Gavin. The Godox manual was vague, to some degree, on this subject and I now need to play with my trigger again now that I can make sense of the offered functionality. Thank you.

My goodness ! So simple ..Have to thank you for taking the fear and loathing out of flash photography for me (and I suspect a whole bunch of folk !).
Yeah, first time I watched a video on flash making it all so simple! Finally I'm out of the confusion and seeing the light!
Great video! I didn't even know I could do this with my kit. This will save a lot of guesswork with test shots
Good gawd, I had NO idea what that TCM button was even for. Thanks for bringing it to light (no pun intended) for me, Gavin!
I had no idea either. Why did nobody mention this before?
Can i use Tcm mode in my x1t trigger??
Very impressive how you insert the word "SUBSCRIBE" in your videos! Kudos!
Thank you for pointing out the TCM, that will save me so much time.
Dont know how I missed this one. Such a better explanation than what’s in the manual. Thanks Gavin
THIS is what I was looking for. Perfect demo/tutorial as usual, thanks for the time you put into these Gavin
Another top tutorial Gavin. I prefer a flash meter because I rarely use TTL in studio but TCM is very useful for event shooting where I use TTL ( with flash compensation ) a lot. As you say, it's another tool to help you do the job 👍
You are the sun in my night. This is exactly the issue I had in the my shooting of the last week end. Thank you so much
Everybody with their R2 transmitter: Oh, that's what that button is for!
Thank you Gavin for showing us how to utilize that function to make the most of high-speed sync.
Fantastic !!! Thank you Gavin, I had never used the TCM function, but I will now, excellent lesson.

Thanks Gavin, very well explained. Portrait light looked great.

Another great, straight to the point, inspiring and entertaining tutorial. Thanks, you're an awesome portraitist.
Thank you Gavin for all the wonderful tips in lighting and special efx. Your enthusiasm is contagious. I'm an artist and I use you tips for reference when I shoot. Keep going don't stop😄😀😁
You are a pleasure to watch, and I can really learn from your videos, unlike most others who does tutorial videos.
This is the perfect video since I'd just purchased the same transmitter along with the Flashpoint AD200 Pro from Adorama. Thanks Gavin!
Thank you for explaining a button that I have seen many times on my transmitter but really didn't know what to do with it.
Thank you so much for this! I had no idea my Flashpoint stuff could do this! Beautiful photos too!
We have to watch these just to see where the SUBSCRIBE button goes! Well done Gavin and Sam.

Great video. Cleared up a lot of questions I had regarding TCM. Thanks!
Thanks so much. I always love your tutorials.

Thank you for this Great Tutorial, Gavin! I always used TTL oder ManualMode with HSS and got different exposures, because I don‘t knew the TCM-Function of my Godox transmitter. Greetings from Germany
Wicked! I have the Xpro and didn't really know how to incorporate that function, thank you.
Great video.
Will a Flashpoint Evolv 200 flash and a Flashpoint Xplor600 in this same scenario? Or, do they have to be the same flash?
Just stumbled upon this great video, thanks. Question - how would you do this if you were using 2 different types of flashes (I have a flashpoint 360 and a 600)? Glad I could help Keith 👍
Now I know what that button does ... 1 year later. Thanks Gavin!
that's brilliant.. I have just bought the Xpro trigger ..will try this out ..thanks Gavin..your superstar..

hi interesting take do you completly fill the frame with the gray card
Fantastic video Gavin, the pictures are wonderful. Thank you!
Great as usual. I always wait for him. He is a great explainer.
Thanks Gavin and Stay Well

Hi Micke. It should work the same.
Okej. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Have a lovely weekend:)
Love your videos and your enthusiasm - Inspiring!
I have that remote and have secretly wondered how to use the TCM mode! Thank you lol
Is there a similar function on Yongnuo collection? I am using the yn-e3-rt ii with yn600ex-rt ii speedlights
Thank you for an awesome explanation of the TCM function! Cheers.
Great pictures Gavin! Also, I got a question for you: Is it possible to do the same with the triggers X1T and X2T, because there is no dedicated TCM button? Thanks

I didn't know this TCM function! Thanks Gavin!!
i didn t know about the hss capibility,, (I was already using the tcm in normal instances),so im glad that I watched ,thanks Gavin
Thank you very much. But One question: Why This adapteris not available in Europe?
Great video Gavin! Have the R2, had not explored the TCM function yet. Charlotte has the coolest outfits...
As always top notch video. I’ve learned so much from your tutorials. Thank you Gavin!!!
Good video. I am planning to evolve (pun intended) to the Godox/Flashpoint system. Is the TCM feature also on the R2, or just on the Pro? I am leaning toward the R2, but the TCM feature seems like a very useful feature.
She killed it !!!
You always amaze me. I’ve become a better photographer, from watching your videos. Thanks ever so much. Cheers Guv’
I’ve been wondering if my FP stuff was capable of this. Thank you for doing this video!!!
Very entertaining and informative as always thanks Gavin
Very good explanation with well thought of experiments 👍
TCM means TTL converted to Manual. Great tool !
Great as always, Gavin ! But. What is TTL measuring so ? Distance between flash and subject or camera and subject ? TTL is throw the lens , isn't it ?
TTL is using a pre flash, so the flash will fire twice, first flash is before your shutter open, and your camera will meter and make adjustement to the second flash that fires during your exosure.
Ahhhh finally, well explained, easy to follow for us 'simpletons' LOL ;) Thanks Gav
You are great man !!! Your ideas and work are fantastic !!!
would this work while doing a shoot using mixed lights such as an xplor 600 key light and evolv 200hair light? and BTW thank you for the great videos always my favorites
Thank you for that tip....Priceless!!!
Gavin, I shoot a Godox AD200 pro and the V860IIc. When using mixed lighting like that, do I need to set my trigger to the 200j setting?
so the whole time you keep the light on in the studio? or does it have to be turned off. new to this and the pics do look like there’s no other light in the room besides the flash and accent lights
does anybody know if I can mix flash types such as I have a AD200 and flashpoint 600 has. I always enjoy Gavin's videos and so glad he is part of the Adorama team.
Awesome! Thank you! I had no idea what TCM does and how it works! 😄
It's really great feature and nicely presented as usual, but l have to find is godox has this feature in x series trigger
Very good info. So you can't mix a speedlight in with an evolv 200, correct?
Hi Bryan. You can mix them but only one will convert from TTL to manual accurately. Make that your key light and be ready to tweak the manual power of other if you use TCM.
Thanks Gavin, I wasn’t aware of this function and will be using it especially for HSS.

Great Tutorial sir
New to flash...what does the Zoom 24 mm do? Do I need to set this to the focal length im using on my lens?
Great video as usual Gavin. I have a question concerning speed lights. Will the TCM function work with speed lights such as the Godox V860ii? I didn’t see an option to chose a lesser powered flash in setting up the TCM function. Thank you
Never mind, I saw the answer while strolling through the comments as you answered a similar question from Gregory Sergeant
This is great and it nearly makes the light meter redundant
Did you explain the lamp light in the background? Sorry if I missed it, but otherwise, I'm curious as to what kind of light is inside the bird cage? Is it a flash or continuous source? Especially using the higher shutter speeds, how did you manage so much light from it? Thanks.

And thank you Adorama for bringing us this content
Hi Gavin - another great video, always on a real life topic that's very helpful. I wondered if when setting up TCM you have to identify the actual flash unit you're using or just it's light output? Thanks in advance for your response.
