Hi Gavin: This video was so helpful. Like 'fmrff70' I simply couldn't understand my manual on the TCM function but you have eliminated this issue. Keep safe! Cheers, Keith ~ Barrie, Ontario Canada
I've owned my Godox gear for about a year and a half. After this video, I might actually start using the TCM function finally. This is the clearest explaination and demonstration of it that I have found. Thank you, sir!
Thanks for the explanation on tcm function. I've always used my flash meter for this..makes it pretty straight forward. I wonder how it would work outside?
Everybody with their R2 transmitter: Oh, that's what that button is for! Thank you Gavin for showing us how to utilize that function to make the most of high-speed sync.
EXCELLENT video as usual Gaven. QUICK QUESTION ANYONE: what if I’m using an AD 300 PRO, an AD200 PRO? Do I set for both separately? Also, will I get the proper exposure from the AD300 PRO even tho the transmitter says ‘360j ‘ ? THANKS IN ADVANCE.
I knew the function was there, but never tried it. But I can see now, it works. And what an awesome model, the outfit she wears makes her SO trustworthy in that ligh setup. 10 ekstra likes from me, if I could.
Thank you for a great channel and tutorial. Always learning new things from watching. Quick stupid question, will that transmitter work with Godox Ad200? Are the eVOLV 200 actually the same technology just different name?
Hi Gavin, that’s a fantastic video and the fact this works with high speed sync is especially useful as like you say a light meter doesn’t do it. Always love seeing your videos. I’d love to see some more specific editing videos on how you post process your portrait shots you have such a great painterly look to your final images. Thank you and I hope you and your family are staying safe with everything going on 🙏
Great Video, Just learning about TCM I love it question is In the beginning you set the trigger to 200J there is actually three choices 360J, 600J. I'm using gordox 860V so how do you know if I am using the correct setting for lights and trigger?
A very informative video. I really like hss flash photography. But unfortunately I don't own a flash metre I had to rely on multiple of test shots for doing hss. Thanks.
Hi I am Vandan from Mumbai India. I am using Canon 6D markii camera. It has 1/180 synchro shutter speed. When I use with Godox flash TT685 on camera it shows synchro shutter speed on display. But when I use off camera with Godox Trigger X1 it not showing synchro 1/180. It jumps from 1/160 to 1/200. Why it shows like that or is it camera body problem?
Just stumbled upon this great video, thanks. Question - how would you do this if you were using 2 different types of flashes (I have a flashpoint 360 and a 600)? It seems like doing each separately (and changing the flash type in TCM) wouldn't work as the second flash is additive to the first and the model's face would be overexposed. If you just set ratios at the beginning with both flashes turned on TTL (say, the main light 600 at 0 FEC and the fill 360 at -2 FEC) it seems like it might work, but its not clear to me if the output of the group B flash (360 in this case at -2 FEC) would be powered at a 1:3 or 1:4 vs the 600 (assuming that the 360 has 50% of the power of the 600). Alot, I know, but interested in how this works. Thanks!
Does anyone know if TCM functions properly if you're using 2 different models of Godox/Flashpoint strobes, i.e. AD200 + AD400? Does the Xpro transmitter allow you to choose multiple strobe models?
Hi Gavin I'm subbed to your channel. My R2 Pro (C) trigger won't fire my Flashpoint eVOLV 200 R2 Flash. All my settings seem correct. The test fire button on the trigger won't fire either. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Wow this so informative. I just bought a Canon 250D only to find out ut doesn't have a center pin to trigger my Godox Xpro on manual mode. This information will help me as Im going to use TTL mode with exposure compensation for my portraits photoshoots. Also with the help of high speed sync to reduce overexposure. Thank you very much your videos are si helpful Sir.
Great pictures Gavin! Also, I got a question for you: Is it possible to do the same with the triggers X1T and X2T, because there is no dedicated TCM button? Thanks
Hi Telmo. No there's no TCM function on the X1T (Never used an X2T but it looks basically the same) Luckily you can probably upgrade your transmitter while keeping the same flashes if TCM would be useful for you.
Thannnnkkkksssss!! Thank you, it really helped me a lot, when you come from Ecuador you have someone who will take you everywhere to take pictures and meet
Another top tutorial Gavin. I prefer a flash meter because I rarely use TTL in studio but TCM is very useful for event shooting where I use TTL ( with flash compensation ) a lot. As you say, it's another tool to help you do the job 👍
Excellent video Gavin. The Godox manual was vague, to some degree, on this subject and I now need to play with my trigger again now that I can make sense of the offered functionality. Thank you.
It's such a shame that the newest and smallest Godox transmitter have everything but TCM and you need the ugly and much bulkier transmitter. Seems like a pretty useful feature as those flash metering device are damn expensive for some reason.
Is the auto focus assist terrible on this trigger? Someone in the forum claims that the X2T has af assist that actually works. Can anyone confirm this?
so the whole time you keep the light on in the studio? or does it have to be turned off. new to this and the pics do look like there’s no other light in the room besides the flash and accent lights
I've been using this feature for years now especially when shooting in HSS & i absolutely love it. Really helpful & save a lot of guesswork especially when u need to work fast. My method for outdoor shoot, i ask the model to hold a grey card & set the camera metering to spot meter for a more accurate TTL reading. The shot does'nt need to be in focus, it juz need to fill the frame. Be aware of your own shadow as it might block the light if u shoot it really close or any glare if u shoot towards the sun coz it will disturb the TTL reading. Use lens hood if u have to or use your hand as a shade. Juz sharing. :)
I love Gavin. This video was way better than the fill flash/modifiers video last week in my opinion (no offense intended). This video is better because Gavin doesn't make me feel like a "gear nerd" because I love my gear; and by default would like to use the "somewhat" expensive gear I've earned. Gavin addresses just about everything he has to create the look, and addresses the premise of the video without compromising the company's sales plan. If you tell me I should be more creative at times and less technical I believe you. On the other hand, if you make that your video premise (cheap and creative) and put expensive profoto d2's in your video, when modifiers and cheap speedlights cost way less, I feel a bit confused to say the least. TCM Confused everyone to no end as a strong advocate for Adorama products. Now I can review send more business to Flashpoint well informed.
Hi Gavin, does the Flaspoint trigger with TCM work only with Flaspoint lights. I run JinBei D610 lights and I currently use a TRQ7 transmitter, which allows me to connect to Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, Olympus and panasonic, also works with Canons RT system so that I can add my speedlights as a group.
Hi Andrew. In my experience transmitters are all unique to a range of lights as well as to specific camera brands, which is why I chose my flashes based on the transmitter. Flashpoint/Godox transmitters won't work on your JinBei flashes but I don't perhaps they have they're own version of TCM just like ProFoto do.
My Yongnuo radio system does not have this TCM system, but what I usually do is press FE-lock button to keep the TTL metering the same after I got the perfect lightning. One tip is to frame the model's face for TTL metering, so the background will not affect.
FE-Lock might work for you (no rights or wrongs in photography). As for tight framing of the face, that's can help but remember not all faces are the same brightness and non models won't appreciate having at camera in their face 😲
I know that Flashpoint is also Godox. If I have my X-pro II trigger, will it sync up seamlessly with the Flashpoint Evolve 200 like it does with my Godox strobes and flashes?
Just invested in 2 Godox V860II-N Speedlites and the XPro N Transmitter. Did not know what to do with them until I found this video from a year ago. No flash meter, one 30" umbrella, and just desire, no experience. I'm beginning to think I might already have a studio with that equipment, LOL. Thank you! ⭐x5
Did you explain the lamp light in the background? Sorry if I missed it, but otherwise, I'm curious as to what kind of light is inside the bird cage? Is it a flash or continuous source? Especially using the higher shutter speeds, how did you manage so much light from it? Thanks.
Hi Michael. The lamp in the background is a mystery item 😉 It's there because it fitted in with the look and long story short... Charlotte and I were supposed to be doing an this demo and much more at a trade show and the lamp was an important part of that demo. Unfortunately the trade show got pulled for fairly oblivious reasons (at the time of writing).
Great tutorial Gavin, using an AD 200 for my key light with TCM option set for the AD200, what will happen to by background light which is a lower powered speed light. Will a TTL shot then TCM work or must I measure this light with my flashmeter. I guess I will have to remember to change the TCM option value if I use a different flash for my key light also.
Mine always overexposes, sometimes by a little and sometimes by a lot (over 2 stops). Using Canon and an AD200 Pro, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've set the trigger to 200j, have all the camera settings on manual, get a perfect exposure with TTL, hold that TCM button and then boom - all my highlights are blown.
Hi Joseph. You can mix them but only one will convert from TTL to manual accurately. Make that your key light and be ready to tweak the manual power of others if you use TCM. BTW for the Xpolor400 use the 360J setting at 1:03
TTL is using a pre flash, so the flash will fire twice, first flash is before your shutter open, and your camera will meter and make adjustement to the second flash that fires during your exosure.
Hi Gavin: This video was so helpful. Like 'fmrff70' I simply couldn't understand my manual on the TCM function but you have eliminated this issue. Keep safe! Cheers, Keith ~ Barrie, Ontario Canada
Glad I could help Keith 👍
She killed it !!!
Thank you!!!!😊
I've owned my Godox gear for about a year and a half. After this video, I might actually start using the TCM function finally. This is the clearest explaination and demonstration of it that I have found. Thank you, sir!
It's really great feature and nicely presented as usual, but l have to find is godox has this feature in x series trigger
Well done! Question: how does one reset or turn off TCM?
Hi Nick. You can't turn TCM on or off, it's just a push button. Use it or not, the choice is yours 😉
Thanks for the explanation on tcm function. I've always used my flash meter for this..makes it pretty straight forward. I wonder how it would work outside?
Great video! I didn't even know I could do this with my kit. This will save a lot of guesswork with test shots
Much appreciated. Was unsure about the intricacies of Godox' TCM, but you laid it out clear as day. Bullseye.
I never thought of using TTL/TCM for high speed sync. Thank you for another awesome video!!!
I LOVE GAVIN!
In your videos things seems to be very easy just because explanations are very clear. Thanks Gavin
Wow! Thanks for giving me something to do while staying home during these difficult time.
Gavin, your lessons are priceless! I can read the manual until I'm blue in the face! Sincerely, Thank you!
Everybody with their R2 transmitter: Oh, that's what that button is for!
Thank you Gavin for showing us how to utilize that function to make the most of high-speed sync.

Is there a similar function on Yongnuo collection? I am using the yn-e3-rt ii with yn600ex-rt ii speedlights
Thank you for pointing out the TCM, that will save me so much time.
If only Adorama had a store in Europe...
Very impressive how you insert the word "SUBSCRIBE" in your videos! Kudos!
I knew the function was there, but never tried it. But I can see now, it works. And what an awesome model, the outfit she wears makes her SO trustworthy in that ligh setup. 10 ekstra likes from me, if I could.
Sadly, godox x2t does not have this button...
Thank you for a great channel and tutorial. Always learning new things from watching. Quick stupid question, will that transmitter work with Godox Ad200? Are the eVOLV 200 actually the same technology just different name?
Hi Micke. It should work the same.
Okej. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Have a lovely weekend:)
I discovered this a few months back, and it's a game changer. I haven't used my flash meter since.
Hi Gavin, that’s a fantastic video and the fact this works with high speed sync is especially useful as like you say a light meter doesn’t do it. Always love seeing your videos. Thanks Gavin, very well explained. Portrait light looked great.

My goodness ! So simple ..Have to thank you for taking the fear and loathing out of flash photography for me (and I suspect a whole bunch of folk !).
Yeah, first time I watched a video on flash making it all so simple! Finally I'm out of the confusion and seeing the light!
Great video. Cleared up a lot of questions I had regarding TCM. Thanks!

Will a Flashpoint Evolv 200 flash and a Flashpoint Xplor600 in this same scenario? Or, do they have to be the same flash?
Thank you very very much. Thats exectly what I'm searching for!!! And also your presentation is great :-)
Hi! What happen if i have the same brand flashes but different models, it still work ? Ex. AD400 with T685 ?
exactly what I was looking for. The one stop channel to get all my questions answered with simple easy to understand instructions....Thank You Gavin
Thannnnkkkksssss!! Thank you, it really helped me a lot, when you come from Ecuador you have someone who will take you everywhere to take pictures and meet
So, I can't actually use your advice from this video because I do not have a flash transmitter with a TCM function. Oh, well.

Gavin, I shoot a Godox AD200 pro and the V860IIc. When using mixed lighting like that, do I need to set my trigger to the 200j setting?
great video, but i think that is a lazy photographers tool
The less I concentrate on the technolgy, the more I focus on the subject and image. If that's lazy, I'm happy to be bone idle 😁
Didn’t understand-flash meter incomparable with high-speed sync?
Thank you very much. But One question: Why This adapteris not available in Europe?
THIS is what I was looking for. Perfect demo/tutorial as usual, thanks for the time you put into these Gavin

Thanks so much. I always love your tutorials.
that's brilliant.. I have just bought the Xpro trigger ..will try this out ..thanks Gavin..your superstar..
Wow. So helpful. I had no idea my kit could do this.
if you have two flashes that are diffferent IE AD200 AD360 can you us it with both?
Is the auto focus assist terrible on this trigger? Someone in the forum claims that the X2T has af assist that actually works. Can anyone confirm this?
Nice videos sir
I have silly question
Is okay if i choose 360j at tcm mode for ad200 pro?
good evening . if it is possible, can you tell me how many square meters your studio has? thank you!
Great Tutorial sir
Thank you so much for this! I had no idea my Flashpoint stuff could do this! Beautiful photos too!
Would this transmitter work with canon speed light 580
Great tip!
hello Garvin i have a queestion. is that tips working gor the evolv200R2?
New to flash...what does the Zoom 24 mm do? Do I need to set this to the focal length im using on my lens?
The Japanese are making those robots look really real, almost looks live 😁
I apologize for misspelling your name. I am using voice to type.
Another great, straight to the point, inspiring and entertaining tutorial. Thanks, you're an awesome portraitist.
I ❤ Gavin Hoey, thank you for this video, great 👍
Love your videos and your enthusiasm - Inspiring!

hi interesting take do you completly fill the frame with the gray card
Are flashpoint and godox the same? Do they work together?
Good gawd, I had NO idea what that TCM button was even for. Thanks for bringing it to light (no pun intended) for me, Gavin!
I had no idea either. Why did nobody mention this before?
Can i use Tcm mode in my x1t trigger??
😳👍👍👍👍👍🤗🇨🇭
What is TCM understand but how it work do not understand.
Hi Gary, can you use it with altura speedlights?
you are the bast >> thanks Mr Gavin

do you just power off the transmitter to clear it or another way?
May I know what is the light you are using in the bird cage?
Brilliant! Incredibly helpful
excellent, excellent thank you Gav'
What if I have 3 different types of light?
What lamp is that he used anyone know ?
This is great and it nearly makes the light meter redundant
