I'm not persuaded by the logic for the answer to your last question. You seem to suggest that it's preferable for an RBT to buy a number of random items and present them to the client than to ask the parents what the client prefers. What if these purchased items are of little or no interest to the client? If the RBT is smart, he/she will have *some* prior knowledge of the client's interests before purchasing several items and presenting them. And if that's the case, any of the other three choices will take precedence.

Good points! A direct observation is always preferable to an indirect observation. Observing the child interacting with an object is direct, while asking the parent their opinion is an indirect assessment.

Correct me if I am wrong, but for the last question I think the answer (A vs. B) depends on whether the client can speak or not.

I think how you are thinking, Tiffany! In that specific situation, if the client had no way at all to communicate, then certainly asking them would not be successful. However, in general, asking the parents is the least direct way to handle the assessment.

Am I wrong to assume the second to last question is actually D, not enough to answer? Im thinking about this from two skills. One being a good one to increase and one being a bad skill we want to decrease. Take the bad example, such as SIB. If we say that skill is trending down, doesn't that mean we aren't making the skill worse its actually getting better? As I write this I realize that SIB isn't really a skill, so maybe that the signal I need to look for. If the question said "behavior" and not "skill", would it be D?

I think that with the RBT task list, skill refers to skill acquisition, so it would be something they would want to increase. I don’t think there are typically any “bad skills” one would want to decrease. But I think that if they were talking about behavior going in a downward trend, it would be a good thing if the behavior is negative. I’m sure they were clarify if it was a positive or negative behavior. However, when they refer to skill, I’m pretty sure it’s always about acquisition unless they say otherwise.

Wouldn’t the second to last question be not enough info since we don’t know if the target behavior is supposed to be up or down based on that question
