    All in all - GREAT video! Clean, clear, concise and didn't take 15 minutes to do it. Answered most of what I needed to know, but now... I don't know if I want to pick up less expensive Vers 1's, or invest in the 2nd?
    I've heard of other misc. differences, but not sure if they're true. (brighter LED for one) But I think you caught some of the others, and confirmed or disproved what I've heard.
    Thanks for the video. Again - well done.

      The 1st generation Protect was recalled by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). That isn't an issue if you keep the unit online though. But with the improvements in the newer model, why take that chance on home security?

    Thanks for the video, I received the Nest Protect 2, but there was nothing at the box saying that was the 2nd generation, so I though that was the 1st, but your video did show me that's indeed the 2nd generation.

    Most annoying to find out the Nest 2 WILL NOT INSTALL on the original bracket that was screwed into my plaster ceiling. Most annoying to have to drill new set of holes for absolutely no reason at all.

    Thanks for the vid. My Nest Protect V1 reached end of life. It’s a bummer that I have to drill new holes in the ceiling. How the hell did the not figure out that people don’t want to do that. I’m thinking about buying the Netatmo Smoke alarms instead. I recon I can hang those on just one screw in one of the holes of my old nest protect v1. I think we will miss the path light though.

    i got an idea why people got some problem with nest protect smoke alarm battery cell will be really bad after 1 or 2 years of using and it's why people thinking at the nest smoke alarm are buggy but tips from me replace new battery cell on the nest smoke alarm and try connect that with user account on phone again and i hope that's will work again.

    Can I reuse the Gen 1 bracket when upgrading to Gen 2? I have them in a suite and just want to get tenant to twist them on if possible.

    • @josephdragan7734
      @josephdragan7734 3 года назад +1

      No you can not!! You must install the new bracket which means drilling a new set of holes in the ceiling. Simply pointless design change

    So the opening on the bottom of the nest at 0:48-0:50 is so it can better detect smoke and carbon monoxide?

    “On the original nest you have to unscrew the backplate” to get the batteries. The backPLATE goes on the wall the part you are referring to is the back COVER

    Does the 2.0 work as a remote temperature sensor for the Nest thermostat? Say, your thermostat is downstairs and you want to monitor the temperature upstairs, where the Protect is, via the app or something like that.

    If you actually owned the Nest Protect v1 you would surely have experienced its erratic false alarms and the other bugs this product had. I equipped my whole building with those and experienced several nerve-wrecking incidents where the whole house was woken up because one of the sensors acted up. Just like in this video plus.google.com/+BradFitzpatrick/posts/bpUvi6BBubm.
    So who the heck cares if 2.0 now has round edges, or how it gets mounted?
    The key question is: Does it work reliably? What performance differences have been introduced which will prevent false alarms? Have they improved the software and its buggy sensors?

    • @ramohino
      @ramohino 7 лет назад

      I did as well and yes the new one works, Skynet fixed all bugs then and after. It takes a lot to program and then understand the ramifications. I have requested many changes to software and soon realized that the implications can be great and further than taught.

    • @Diddz
      @Diddz 5 лет назад +1

      i have 7 of them in my home, not one false alarm, the features in gen 2 that cuts back on false alarms is mainly a barrier around the sensors to prevent dust and roaches from entering the sensor and tricking it into believing there's maximum smoke, a guy tested one of the gen 1 alarms by flooding it with sawdust and it went off becoming unsilencable, confirming its not some computational firmware or circuitry thats primarily faulty, gen 1 did NOT have any barriers and you could very easily put roaches onto the sensor
      gen 2 also has steam check and will use that to stop the alarm from happening if the humidity level matches or is greater than the ammount of "smoke" detected

    LMAO I did a bad review on the protect in June 2014 about when the damn thing wont shut off and you have to unscrew the back at 4:00 AM. Any way right after that Alphabet Holdings (SkyNet) took over all and my video was deleted from YT. At least they fixed that, however they should put a switch on it, but they do not want it easy turned off.????? Think about it all the nest products monitor where you are in the house and all movements. JS

    • @Diddz
      @Diddz 5 лет назад +1

      that can be turned off as far as the away assist goes, gen 2 has a mic in it for self testing the siren (this is why they go one after another rather than all chirping at once during the self test), gen 1, and nearly every other regular smoke alarm will sound if even as much as roach turd touches that sensor (gen 2 with the screen and the less reliable ionization only detectors are immune to this) unfortunately, by fire code, the alarms have to be unsilencable above 4% obstruction (minus killing their power sources) we have to fight to undo that requirement in the code if we want future smoke detectors and all alarm systems under the same roof to gut the silence lockout function

      We have a Nest thermostat and talks thru /with our Wemo connect hub (whatever it's called)
      Will Nest detectors (1 and/or 2) talk with Wemo wireless LED bulbs, too?
