I had the pleasure of being in International waters off of Cape Cod Massachusetts on an 18 foot Bassmaster in 12 foot swells fishing with the singer of my band. We then ran out of fuel and had to drift back to a harbor in those insane waves. I absolutely feel for you and understand your terror. The Best channel on RUclips! You guys Rock!

Love your adventures...takes me back to the mid-70's while stationed in Okinawa. The waters around that island contain more species than any other in the world. I did some snorkeling there and it was truly a new world. Best wishes to you both...will be watching every day. Stay safe!

The SD must have smacked the other boat… they should’ve staggered the lines so they weren’t in the same length to collide.
Ps. The Indonesian fisherman were obviously hunting for turtles.

I’m surprised the captain didn’t stagger the boats more so they wouldn’t hit each other. Man I’d be pissed and really nervous. Here in the states we’d carry some serious fire arms incase some people came up on us at night. Glad you’re ok. Be safe Brother! 🤙🏽🇺🇸

My thoughts exactly, the machete in left hand for misdirection, my 17 clip m&p 2.0 in waistband behind my back, extra clip in pocket. Dead turtles and they just want a light! Alarms should have been so loud in his head. Sleeping in shifts from then on!

I thought Fran was going to put her marine biology skills into practice with the turtles, and she didn’t look too pleased to have the starfish taken away from her just as she was starting to explain what she thought it was and what had happened - it seems she then spent the rest of the night sort of giving him shit, just to make him worry a bit more. There is a a lot more to Fran yet.
If they were relying on the SaltyDingo as a strong and durable craft to get them through most circumstances then encountering those potential pirates would certainly give them a moment to really pause.

Its tricky towing side by side, changing sea state doesn't help either ..... got to try and ballance length of tow to wake interval, so you don't have the towed boats diving around and kiss each other.
It would also be a good idea to drill some holes in that gunwale and lash/lace a bit of timber under it as a splint to attempt to recover some rigidity and stabilise the damage so that it doesn't get worse.
Probably not going to have a drill out there on that sand cay.
@@stevejenkins646 That might be true for the Salty Dingo ...... but I would be very surprised if the mother ship catamaran did not have a drill and spare cord ..... it is a pretty standard piece of equipment to carry on a large cruising boat ...... the gunwale is an important element for the entire structural integrity of the boat so running a huge risk operating the boat without at least addressing the damage.

I think the damage was caused from towing by the front eyelet. The flexing between the bottom hull and top liner separated them. A proper tow harness is y shaped ropes attached to sides on middle of boat removes the stress from the nose. The extra weight in nose made stress worse. Sadly the dingo is probably not worth repair, likely to have cracks through out. Brave dingo served well.
Agree. Not to mention how much water is now in the hull. Sorry to say the dingo is fucked.
Your opinion seems right, i thought stress also, not impact with the inflatable. Should of been part of the narrative .
I was leaning towards the stress theory rather than the collision theory, but one or two facts bothered me… the metal parts dented and bent inwards! So, I took a closer look at the video: The metal rod holder (?) right above the main split is dented on its outer edge as if impacted (5:51 and 6:22 and 9:22). At 9:08 you can see impact damage and chips along the top outer edge right under the metal hand rail that is bent inwards and almost ripped out by force of impact/s. The paint work also appears to have been scraped. I’ve switched back. Looks like it must have been caused by the other boat colliding with the side (top edge).
@@rohangowland949 The air boat smashed the glass ? They filmed the towing, if colliding, why not tie different ? like the inflatable behind the glass boat ?

On my last trip from the MacArthur River up to Groote Eylandt, I noticed there were no Coconut trees on most of the Islands North of Groote. I collected about 40 coconuts from the Groote Eylandt Golf Course. Some of these nuts had started growing with roots and leaves. Going between Islands, I planted a few nuts per Island, in sheltered areas that might hold water when it rains.
Looking at the sand island the two of you were on, it struck me that you might have considered taking some Mangrove Plants and Coconuts for planting. May be next time.

OMG the turtles! I am heartbroken right now as a new subscriber catching up. 😥😥😥 I have chickens myself and have experienced loss that broke my heart so I understand . But seeing one of my two most favorite maritime animals (sea turtles and humpback whales) and maybe one of the most vulnerable sea animals like this wrecks me so much. 💔😥

You should of tied the boats with different lengths of rope so they couldn’t smash into each other. That’s probably what damaged your boat.

The boats would have either gotten torn up by the tow line or worn through the tow line and then would have ended up floating in the middle of the ocean. In any event, it's a bummer.

Excitement comes in all varieties in this world. It’s certainly unexpected to travel to such an area and have human company. However, if it’s a good fishing area, there’s a great reason for being there. You are in my prayers. I really enjoy watching your channel.
The feeling you never forget... I remember it well *sighs*. It's an almost unavoidable issue with adventure travel-those situations where dispassionate reality rules, and you have to choose the best path you can, resigning yourself to the outcome... Thank goodness this is only a movie. ;)

Wow! What a start. First of all I am very happy the sand bar was not a 'death trap' for you as it was for the green turtles. Second I am happy that the people you ran into out in the middle of nowhere were not pirates, because yes, they are all over those waters. Lastly, I hope you can find a way to fix the gunwale of the Salty Dingo because it is so much a part of the structural integrity of the hull. Be safe and thanks for another fabulous episode.

Fran pretty much seems to take it all in stride. " cowgirl up" as the say. She's braver than I am for sure. Hope the boat damage can be repaired. The fishermen seemed harmless, but you never know. Nice knife though. That should at least intimidate them. Spear gun wouldn't be a bad idea either if things got in extremis.

While I'm shocked at the amount of damage to your boat there I still find it to be outstanding that you're still afloat .Hopefully the necessary repairs can be made to keep you seaworthy . I hope the two of you can keep smiling and get back to your intended destination .
