I know this is an old review now but recently I drove a 2017 313 long wheel base mb sprinter and 314 Luton van and all I can say is they are excellent vehicles!
if you have the opportunity to look at one of these models without a body on them and see how the chassis and the suspension are built and compare that with other models it will be clear that the Sprinter is designed to last!
Our still uses 15 year old Mercedes Benz vans, we also use 10 year olds or factory new ones. They all work perfect and drive wonderfully, only the older ones just aren’t as comfortable, but the engine is super reliable.
Well, if you want a Sprinter you better get the one with the V6 engine. The small 4 banger really doesn't belong in a vehicle of this size, you're lucky if you get 250000 km out of it, most of the time an engine swap or overhaul is due long before that. Some don't even make it to 200000 km despite having followed the service program. Mercedes decided to go with a single timing chain on this one, which stretches out quickly, and the best part? They placed it in the rear of the engine, meaning the whole engine has to come out to be able to change it. Main bearings are also prone to failure. As if that is not enough, you'll also run into problems with the DPF. I have a V6 sprinter with 615000 km, still going strong. Most of the problems I've had were related to the exhaust system.
RJ Mar; you have written the words I would use to describe the 5 cylinder Sprinter I drive over here in the States. I have the EGR with no DEF. And, I let the motor warm up a bit before setting off in the morning. There are boys in Chicago with 800K miles and they must know how to drive the Sprinter. Most company run vans with paid driver can kill the Sprinter in 125K miles.
Even looking at Mat standing next to one of these, these vans really are bigger than they look. You could fit about 20 people in the back of one of these and they'd still be comfortable.
It corners great, it's almost like it's glued to the ground, for fast driving its the best van I've driven, however for my job, package delivery, I prefer Ford transit or Peugeot boxer because the sprinter's load height is the highest I know and it's tiring on the knees to jump out of it every day.
Why use the smallest person to review a van, this only exaggerates the load height, You didn't have to jump into the back, that is why there is a step, you failed to mention it. You also said how parts are expensive, where did you get this information ? Compare the price of a full wing mirror to that of other similar sized vans. Negative, less paint used on the van leads to rust spots! But this is easily corrected with a thing called wax.
I think you meant 'then'. Thanks for the random insult. Regularly waxed paintwork takes longer to develop rust spots than a standard washed unwaxed surface. Do you even own a vehicle son ?
K0K4NE Yes i meant -then, Rust on surface is mainly because of bad metal preparation,bad primer and bad paint.Wax is good to get sheen and maybe in one percent to slow rust. BTW thanks for compliment-son- I am only 58 years young. Sprinters are famous to have more rust than paint after 5 years of exploatation .
if you pull the backrest from the middle seat you get two more cup holders and some space and if you pull up the base of the passanger seats you get a lot of space HOW MUCH MORE COULD YOU NEED

I have a 311cdi sprinter 2009,done 33000 miles and the steering wheel coating is falling off,contacted mercedes who did not want to know,they say it is out of warranty,and it,s my fault,come on 33000 miles you must be joking,customer service does not exist with Mercedes,,wiil never buy a Merc again,DISGUSTED

I drive Sprinter 2500 since 2006.I will say this is the worst vehicle for the monies i spent. Yes ,has big cargo space and that is all.I have 145 000 miles and this van needs general overhaul.Simply said expensive Mercedes junk

got an 2010 Extra long a year ago... done about 50k had to change duel mass and propshaft so far at 225000 rides better than most cars still

You can get storage under the seats in the two passenger seat option .

The current sprinter is in essence an VW Crafter. Go to Hannover and complain to the guys at Volkswagen who build them.
