    Bruce Hornsby and the range "That's just the way it is" is ALWAYS the first tune I play trying out a new piano or pianopatch 😄

    Nice review Woody! I think a 73 keyboard at least , instead of 61 keys… and maybe bigger ( standard keyboard).

    It's a beautiful instrument Woody. I'm not sure if I'm hearing sympathetic resonance but the modeling sounds great.

      it has a special "piano room" mode where everything else is switched off except piano, and then you get all the modeling!

    Great video Woody I have the V collection but I think live I will stick to the Nord stage 4! But an interesting concept

    Every video I watch on the Astrolab pulls me in such opposite directions!
    The sounds are so amazing, but then you remember it's the V collection, but essentially with the options all locked down, especially if you dont own the standalone software to edit all the parameters. Its like the most expensive Shareware package ever.
    If it was half the price and had a few more editable parameters on the device itself, aimed to get people into using the V collection more, I'd be all over this. But it seems too expensive to be a beginner device, but too limited without/too cumbersome with external gear to a pro user. Plus if they already own V, they likely have a better midi controller already as well.
    I'm fairly inexperienced with synths and vsts, so my ears love this thing but I ultimately just don't get who this is for.
    It is a great promotion for the V collection though! Running these sounds via my digital piano sounds like it should be just as good as the Astrolab for a fraction of the price.

      there are some leaks about upcoming AL MINI, so maybe this fits your needs better. well, at least it is presumably less expensive?

    Thanks for the detailed demo of the piano engine. As you have tried both - how do the Astrolab pianos compare to the Studiologic Numa X Piano (both are physical modeling)?

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  Месяц назад +1

      that is really tough, haven't played back to back, but seemed to get more of a kick playing the astrolab pianos with those simple 4 macro knobs and instant access to fx, so for sound the AL wins, for keybed the Numa.

    When I play my system Pianoteq seems to be quite better than Arturia VPiano... I don't know if Arturia is using a scaled down version (or older)

    4:45 In timbre, it seems to go from high notes to low notes in the span of less than an octave's worth of mid notes. I'm not with the Yamaha dp today... I'll see whether their samples give a similar effect. I know it's subjective, to determine which notes sound like high notes in timbre. The run Woody plays, after the timestamp, at least gives a fair chance to hear the range of notes.
    I'm not saying it's a bad range... I just never noticed that distictive timbre pattern before, but it might be how they all are, and I didn't notice. I think usually there are more middle notes, and fewer high and low notes... because there were times I wished they were like this - more low notes, but not the muddyiness you get by EQing in that direction... and more brightness to the upper mid notes - the chime of the higher notes, but with more weight.

    • @GizzyDillespee
      @GizzyDillespee Месяц назад

      10:42 That sounds more in the Yamaha direction. I think I prefer Yamaha's samples for this type of piano sound, but in some of the other presets, I think it's competitive if not better. Though, I'd really have to hear and play both side by side. I'm more of a keyboard player than pianist, so I care more about which ones I like better, rather than which one sounds most like a concert grand.

    A hardware version of a software synth collection is the stupiest thing I ever heard of. So this thing is base on Arturia V Collection 10. But V Collection Updates at least one time a year. So what is in 3 or 4 years. Will it be still compatible with V Collection 13 or 14. Maybe not. So why should I buy this thing, when it is a much better idea to use a dumb Midi-Controler and Update my PC V Collection instead.

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  27 дней назад

      fair point, only time will tell if arturia issue firmware updates to keep the keyboard up to date! although one should buy hardware based on its current capabilities and not assuming that there will be future upgrades.
