    Hey Mr Tim, great video as always. I am impressed with your constant treadling speed while FMQ and talking at the same time. Lots of fun to watch!

    Thank you for the information you have given us, especially on the free motion quilting feet. I am impressed at the quilting designs you do on those vintage machines.

    Fascinating! I have a Singer 66 Red Eye and a Singer 201 that I’m going to try fmq on now. You do beautiful work.. and impressed you’re on a treadle machine! Thank you for a great demonstration

    These are most excellent videos, Tim!
    I use the fixed ruler foot for FMQ on my modern Juki, but it's got a long shank that won't work with my antique Singers, so I'm looking for one that will work with my olds.. I just bought a number of the modern hopping feet to try out with my 1906 Singer 27 in treadle (which I already use to great effect with a narrow gauge walking foot for straight-line quilting). For FMQ I use a one-size-larger needle than I would for the same thread/fabric combo for regular sewing. I also loosen the presser bar and the upper thread tension a bit. I also always treat the thread spool before winding bobbins and before quilting with Sewers Aid thread conditioner.

    Wow what an awesome job. And thank you for the video using that Singer machine. I just purchased one made in 1947 a week ago. I wanted to set it up for FM. However I find it to be a BEAST! That thing is sewing everything LOL. Shoulda bought that 1ST really. I have a FM foot but I'd like to get the one you use. Can you let me know please. This video helped me in so many ways because my machine did not have a owner's manual. Thanks Tim.

    Beautiful work! Super inspiring. I especially love how relaxed you are as you quilt. I’m getting ready to do my first machine quilting on a 1948 Japanese-made Singer 15-91 and am having a hard time finding presser feet that work on it. The “universal” walking foot isn’t universal at all - mostly I’m running into an issue where the feed dogs don’t align with the modern presser feet. I’ve McGuivered a darning foot to do freemotion work but, boy, I wish I had more options. It’s a real process to get your setup ready, isn’t it, but the old machines are worth it.

      The Featherweight Shop sells a walking foot that aligns perfectly with the feed dogs on a Model 15 and on a Featherweight. I bought mine there and it works much better than the modern generic walking feet.

      @@lindalangve9039 You are correct! I learned that weeks after my post and ordered one. Its feet align perfectly and I'm happy to say I've completed the straight-stitch portion of my quilt's quilting. : )

    Thanks for your videos. I have a 15-91 great machine. And thinking of getting another straight stitch machine am on the fence as to getting a treadle or electric for quilting with. right now am piecing and sending out. I have 5 am trying to get finished for Christmas presents. Also am crocheting and doing basic quilts for homeless. But need to get things going so can quilt all of them myself.

    Hi Tim, I was wondering what company do you buy your pressure feet? you're video is very informative. Thanks for sharing.

  • @anneK3801
    @anneK3801 6 лет назад +1

    Thank you for the informative overview of the different FM feet. That is one of the details I watch for in your videos and it is helpful to see the differences between them in one video. I have been curious about the ruler feet, now you give me another reason to try to find a reasonably priced version. Do the non-hopping feet, like the ruler feet, work better than hopping feet on leather than on cloth because the leather provides less "grab" than cloth?

    • @TimLatimerquilts
      @TimLatimerquilts  6 лет назад +3

      I am pretty new to the ruler foot myself....just bought this in the last few months and this leather project it the first one I am really using it on (other than just playing and testing) but from what I can see it is going to work well on all fabrics, The hopping feet work well too, but sometimes they dont work as well because they hop too high and that causes skips due to reduced pressure ......I will try it out on some other fabrics and machines to see how it does in more situations and see how it goes, but I give it a good grade for now :)

    Bravo Tim! Gorgeous work! Question: is there a risk of the leather wearing out faster if you get the stitch lines too close together? Like, too many perforations? I'm having a 201-2 delivered in a couple days and first thing I want to get that foot you used in this video. I'm very interested in testing out those quilting rulers. Thanks!

    I love watching your videos. You are so easy to understand and you seem to have so much patience. I hope you keep making the videos. You are a great teacher. I have a couple of questions. I wondered if you could give me any info on The Schenley treadle sewing machine. I bought one at an estate sale years ago and would love to get it up and sewing. It has no date on it anywhere. I can't find anything on the web. Also have you ever quilted vinyl upholstery fabric and wondered if it would be similar to leather.

    • @TimLatimerquilts
      @TimLatimerquilts  6 лет назад

      I did some looking and could not find much about the Schenley machine (other than one small picture), based on that I do think it takes odd sized needles (not the kind you can still buy new) but I am not certain. As far as quilting on vinyl fabric, I have tried it and it can be done, but I do not recommend it, in my tests it tends to split the fabric along the stitch lines unless the stitch size is quite large and the quilting is minimal(the needle holes act like perforations and weaken the fabric)

    • @anneK3801
      @anneK3801 6 лет назад +1

      Based on the one photo I saw on an auction site, that Schenley machine was a vibrating shuttle with top (leaf) tension. It had several intriguing knob on the needle pillar and support pillar. It was almost certainly a rebranded machine made by a company such as National/Eldredge or New Home. Take a good picture of the front of the machine head and inquire of the experts at www.victoriansweatshop.com

    • @carolprice5590
      @carolprice5590 6 лет назад

      Thank you so much. That makes a lot of sense about the vinyl. As far as the machine is concerned I guess I will just keep using it as a side table next to my bed. It is very nice to look at.

      @carolprice5590 6 лет назад

      Your way more knowledgeable than I am. I will have to look up some of those parts to the machine up. Thanks for the info and I will definitely check out that web site. Thanks again.

    • @TimLatimerquilts
      @TimLatimerquilts  6 лет назад

      They do make pretty tables :) If you have some pictures to send me I can probably get a better idea of what the machine would need to be a working machine :) but I have a bunch myself that work but that I dont use because of the difficulty in finding needles and attachments.

    Wow thanks Tim for your time and clarity explaining all of these kind of free motion feet. I would like to ask you where Can I find these old feet for the antique Singer. I have one that uses the bullet bobbin. I understand I can sew many layers of fabric and leather if I want but I do not have an idea where to look for it. I love your work and your videos are easy to follow. Thanks again
