Twenty years later and this generation SL still hasnt lost an ounce of its visual curb appeal and road presence. Easily one of the best SL designs, in my opinion. Straight line performance was underwhelming for a $6-figure V8 roadster, however (even by early 2000s standards). A 2003 Nissan Altima V6 family sedan keeps up with this in a drag race.
I owned a C6 Corvette with 436 ponies and it's a great car. Manual trans and I drove it occasionally for ten years. Now I have a fantastic 2005 SL500. The Corvette was much faster however, I was always looking for cops. There's nowhere to drive a car like that. Not to mention the thing is dangerous in the hands of anyone daring. I absolutely am thrilled with the SL500. 302 BHP. Totally enough for the real driving we do. I think of the SL as a touring car. No need to drive crazy on regular streets. Mercedes gave us a car that is thrilling and elegant.
I have had my 03 SL since 2012 and I really enjoy it . Yes it can be pricey to maintain but if you have a honest mechanic it will be easier on your wallet . After 20 plus years it still draws attention . I still have it because it is the most fun car I have ever driven . WARNING : never take it to a blood sucking dealer . find a good , honest mechanic , they are out there !
And with this, I thank you. I now have access to a motorweek review for all the cars I own. Its cool to see a review of them when first released

Its aged well. And it's extremely good value. Yeah the 500 was nothing to really write home about but does the job for a daily.
The SL55 though....😏
I have a R129 SL500 1995, with the M119 V8, it has more power and torque then this M113, my car is actually faster to 60 then that one, it’s crazy

Hondata does it again 👍👍 you might have more video archives than motorweek itself
The 1990 sl500 motorweek quoted it as going 0-60 in 5.9. How did it lose .4 seconds after 13 years ??

My Mercedes paint is new 20 years later all Mercedes paint
My Mercedes 20 later lacks the massage functions
Interesting
R129 that came out 13 years earlier is faster in quarter mile
Lol mine pulls a zero to 60 in 5.9 seconds, it's amazing how deceptive
In 2003 I was in MCRD San Diego. That is camp for nasty boys. Six months later I was knee deep in Falujah shit.
