But then there’s only so much empathy for those who are stupidly and stubbornly staying there- then have brave rescuers possibly lose their lives trying to save them… it’s very selfish on the part of many. To those who are disabled or elderly or ill and simply can’t get out.. yes it’s just obscenely awful. Many many will perish. And we HAVE to recognise that we have pushed the planets systems too far and this is gonna - as the guy says- be a regular thing, not a once in a hundred year or thousand year thing. Mother Nature is pssed and we will reap what we sow.

A channel here called “Weatherman Plus” literally broke down in tears trying to warn about Helene before the dangers were even being reported. He was inundated with cruel people making fun of him all over FB! Turns out his empathy and gift of discernment of knowing Helene was going to be devastating came to prove correct. This meteorologist is presenting with same. This is not the time to focus on left and right. Our people are dying and suffering. This is when we come together as Americans! 🙏

When Irma came through i spent 3 days in a highschool on Seminole Blvd in Clearwater FL. That marked my 9th hurricane, 2 days later i flew out of my beloved Florida forever. Best move i could have made for my mental health, financial health and physical health. I do truly miss my veteran friends but I can FaceTime.

My ex wife lived in Port Richey for 17 years without a lick of water in her condo, it is now destroyed. She's 63 and now staying with her parents in New Port Richey.
I am looking forward to retiring out of Florida. It is not a pleasant place to live. Between the storms, and the insurance costs, the heat that goes up yearly and is now 3 degrees on average higher than when I moved her over 20 years ago. (Making electricity cost more) who needs it? I'd prefer the snow.

Eliot Jacobson is a gem. He shot down MTG theory of government weather guidance perfectly. It is so important to listen to experts with the educational background to support their analysis of the changing climate. We cannot combat a problem, if we don't understand the problem. We don't have time to waste on nonsense theories that have no basis in reality. MTG is a roadblock that needs to be removed from government, so we can get on down the road.

I lived in Miami when Hurricane Andrew went through and everytime I see John on TV, I always remember him advicing the audience how catastrophic it'd be and pleading with the public to get prepared. I remember his words every time I see him on TV. He still has the same compassion. That's humanity right there, not just a job. This time his warning affect me personally because I'm in the projected path of Milton. Praying this monster storm lowers to category 1 or 2.

As I understood it he just pointed out that the inertia we have set in motion will make things continuosly wors the next five decade. Next year will be worse than this, the year after tha even wors. At some point you will not have the time and/or resources to rebuild infrastructure between the hits. Sure there is plenty of stuff we both can should do, if not for our sake, so for our childrens sake, one of thos things i to reduce the carbon footprint as much as possible. But dont expect that to fix thing this decade. But it could fix it for our grand children.
@lynnmarie1381 The thing is that the greenhouse gasses we have emitted into our atmosphere will stay there for many decades. CO2 stays in our atmosphere for centuries and Methane stays for 1-2 decades. Methane is though 80 times more potent in terms of trapping the heat.
That mean that even if we stop all emissions of CO2 and Methane, then it will still become much worse before it gets better.

You can’t chalk this down to climate change. We have only been able to record natural disasters for a short period of time relative to human history. People have only resided in these areas for a short period of time relative to the history of human kind. There’s no telling how seasons have impacted these areas before residence took place, and before the ability to record data on storms. The climate of the earth has changed constantly throughout the history of the earth, way before humans ever existed. We are thinking on a very small scale, when in reality we could be living in a time when we are on the cusp of a global shift in climate, the same way climate has shifted millions of times before recorded history. Saying this is the fault of humans is a very limited way of thinking. Mother Nature is unpredictable and more powerful than anything humans can conjure up.

Maybe the ignorant Republican party supporters will somehow, witness all the destruction, and come to some sort of sense for a change!

I'm not a climate change denier, but hurricanes are weakly connected to climate....the reason Milton is strong is because it is forming over the gulf and not the ocean. We are in a relatively low hurricane period. People should study history before connecting everything to climate change.
The Spanish have a fascinating record of gulf weather events in the 1500s.

It seems like when the problem becomes truly untenable, people will respond. By then the problem will have gotten so bad that a large number of people are injured, killed, or otherwise negatively affected. The more empathetic citizen wants to curb the problem early to avoid the negative consequences and prevent as much suffering as possible. The less empathetic citizens do not want to act out of concern that action will hurt them in the short term financially or they have been brainwashed into supporting the finances of the wealthiest individuals and institutions in society. I've been having the same feeling for us in the North. In North Dakota today we are expecting a high of 80 degrees!!! This is insane for us around this time. I have a very uncomfortable feeling about our expected winter. I think we need to be prepared early.
I need the weather service made their predictions from their models earlier in the year and people just act like those people don’t talk they literally said this upcoming winter will be on average 20° colder and that cold is going to be longer and earlier starting I think they said somewhere around Halloween.

We've known for DECADES climate change was going to cause disasters like this. And we've all chosen not to hold the people responsible for it accountable-either due to politics, to laziness, to apathy, to selfish interest, or to denial. We had more than enough warning, and time. This is where we deserve to be. And it's only going to get worse from here. This is only the beginning.

In the early 1900s, there were already reports to take note of climate change but no one took heed. Fast forward 2000s, no one took heed. Tsunamis came, hurricanes came at record levels and people still didn't heed. Come today, we still have people saying it's a hoax.
All that ignorance is what's causing all these disasters today and it'll keep coming for the next 50 years. It's a fact. So the only way forward to safeguard the future generations is to build/rebuild infrastructure that can either bolster these events or flat out migrate. To effectively deal with global warming, we need a serious SERIOUS global movement where every country is hands on deck, even at the expense of their GDP. But looking at history and how humankind is, if nothing was done in the 1900s and nothing was done in the 2000s, you really think the world is going to give a crap about it now and even 50 years later? No one's gonna give up their comfortabilities and luxuries for the 'world', let alone their economic ranking.
Just that they fail to realize all these material things don't matter when Earth slowly but surely, becomes inhabitable. Money ain't gonna do jack the closer we get to that stage.
"I don't have a remedy for idiocy." There is no instant cure but, here in America, getting serious about caring for the children of our communities, for both their educational and socioemotional well-being, would be an outstanding start. It took time to (intentionally) produce the level of ignorance that currently exists in the American population, and it will take time to educate our way out of it.
I'm in Tampa, with absolutely no to way to leave due to having a very ill relative, and very little money.😢 Our ONLY possible saving grace, is that we are 40 miles inland, and in a concrete house not near any rivers, trees, or water. But the wind...frack. I can't even right now. We've loaded up on supplies, canned goods, meds, water, and have a generator and a car full of gas. We couldn't even have done that without the help of our friends and neighbors. I can only hope we make it through. People saying everyone should leave, apparently don't understand how broke or sick some people are. Have some empathy. We aren't staying because we're stubborn. We have NO CHOICE.

I have two disabled relatives with me. We were turned away due to "overcrowding ", and told we had to get on a waiting list. So yeah, toughing it out at home, and hoping we don't die.
