I used to work in an ice cream van more than 50 years ago. We would sell one of those tubs each night, come spring, summer, autumn or winter because the ice cream was absolutely delicious. This van was owned by Joe Pelosi and operated by my mentor and friend Frank Hamill. I also used to work in Franks wee fruit and veg shop in Shettleston every Saturday, before rushing to get the van for Saturday night. Those were the days. I am Sixty- five next month and remember the laughs like it was yesterday. I worked in the van every night from 6 till 10 and also Sundays from about 2 till 10. I started working from about the age of twelve and worked all my life thanks to the start this wee job gave me. Many thanks to Frank and Joe for helping me all those years ago.
It seems a lot of persons die after making their videos, no response to their fear viewers. Anyway, I like the rotation of this machine but it's a bit primitive in having to be leaning into it for the product. Stuff can fall and contaminate it. Make sure you don't drop a sweat while scooping...
Not sure why so many on here would want a vertical batch freezer. Machines like the ones from Emery Thompson are horizontal (have been for years) which makes emptying sooooo much faster. It also makes the ice cream in less time. Most under 10 minutes. Depends on ingredients and sugar content. This thing, maybe an Edoni, seems to take forever! And no matter the brand, batch freezers are not cheap. One like this easily sells for over $20,000 new.
Coming from Glasgow, I only know of Edoni in Scotland who make vertical vat freezers - could be one of theirs. The gelato used to be served straight from the vats in Glasgow cafes in the 1960s. But probably transferred to containers nowadays.
