I have several friends with food intolerances so it's tough to find good treats at the grocery store or ice cream shop. That is likely their target audience. Or young parents who want fresh healthy treats for the kids. It's also fun for kids to make their own. Although I agree that the Ninja Creami is a better choice for that.

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade
      @SmallSpoonBrigade Месяц назад +22

@@joonglegamer9898 It's not a total flop, it was a fine product when it was new. But, technology advances. And no, leaving ice cream sit for 30 minutes is not at all acceptable. You can really only get away with that if you're going to eat all of it in one sitting, if you try to refreeze it, it's going to suck.

i have the basic cuisinart icecream maker, with the same frozen bowl technology. it makes really tasty ice cream, however i like. it can be soft if served immediately, or harder if left in the freezer overnight. i really like it, its easy to use, and i just leave the bowl in the freezer all the time so its ready when i want it. the one he reviewed seems to have a lot of bells and whistles that are just unneeded, and its much larger spacewise, with the same size freezer bowl. i bet its much harder to clean with that dispenser too. just stick to the simple model, get your ice cream out with a spoon, and you will be happy

100%. Had the cuisinart for about 15+ years and it is less complicated and less parts than this. And the tub can be kept in freezer and ready to go anytime. For me making ice cream is still a 2-day thing. Make the ice cream mixture on day 1 and then freeze on day 2 to ensure the liquid is super cold because I use eggs and heat up the cream.

Tip, make the ice cream in your blender and then just chill it in the blender container. This will blend it better as well, especially with the chocolate ice cream, because the cocoa can be hard to dissolve. Honestly this machine doesn't seem the best to me. The problem is it's trying to imitate an ice cream parlor soft serve "experience" but it's failing. The ice cream doesn't come out in a smooth stream, so it's extremely slow and doesn't really fill a cone or bowl in a good way. The freezer bowl is too cold, so it eventually freezes the ice cream hard. The design of the topping dispensers clearly needs some work. Plus this thing is way more expensive than just a standard Cuisinart freezer bowl ice cream maker and it doesn't seem worth it. You're better off just buying the regular ice cream maker and stopping it when the ice cream is as soft as you like and eating it.

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade

I can only begin to guess that this is literally based on it being the best (read: most expensive) brand sold at walmart and target over the last 10 years.
Their products are universally higher in price than the competition, while generally offering worse performance and many of their appliances are downright dangerous with a tendency to overheat, faulty cords that melt because they can't handle the current, and dangerous designs that extremely hot surfaces less than an inch from intended grab points.

If you get a bunch of empty containers you can make multiple flavors and have them ready to go the next day. As soon as I have a few empty containers I fill them back up so it's always ready to go.

I make my own “soft serve” whenever I want to by taking normal ice cream and stirring it with my spoon until it’s the consistency I want. Much less time consuming and cheaper than investing in this machine, which let’s face it, is a cool novelty the first couple of times, than will most likely end up under your counter never to be used again

Exactly! My mom taught me that trick when I was little. Still do it today whenever I’m in the mood. Not to mention, you can still also opt for hard ice cream by doing nothing at all. This monster of a gadget only makes soft serve, and you either always have to have some pre-mixed in the freezer or wait over a day to have it. Annoying and completely unnecessary.

I store the bowl in the freezer (covered with a silicone lid that attaches snugly) upside down. I always make an egg yolk based custard on the stove. It's super easy to clean up (Just 3 parts that are easily hand washed). The cooked ice cream base makes the difference in the taste.

I have an ice cream maker that takes a similar approach. The frozen metal bowl with the spatula turning bit.
It doesn't have all the extra fancy stuff, dispenser or the toppings. I don't know that you really need them. It works much like that one. But I just came to the conclusion that I prefer buying as to making it.
Idk, I might revisit it. As I've completely shifted my diet away from pre made or restaurant made food. I eat almost all organic/natural food these days and my body thanks me for it. So I could try it again as ice cream isn't really part of my diet these days.

A common theme with ice cream makers that require freezing the bowl ( vs having an internal chiller) is that the bowl and ingredient prep are very important. You need to get the bowl to be solidly frozen in order to have it be cold enough. Your ice cream mix should be nearly frozen as well, so it needs less cooling during the process. I've made good ice cream dozens of times in a tropical environment with this kind of setup. It takes more waiting time than a chiller type machine but it costs a lot less.

I have their ice cream maker that, for the cold bowl and churner, looks remarkably similar. We had a difficult time making the ice cream with a consistency harder tan soft serve so this is almost a good remanufacture of the device. Taste-wise the frozen treats were yummy but needed at least double the amount of time for churning with a 'bowl' frozen for days and the mixture also partially frozen. We did find the bowl for the device was not convenient for freezing. It takes up too much room and needs to be in the freezer too long to work at all.

I've noticed when using soft serve machines in restaurants, you move the bowl around a bit to get the ice cream to make the "cone" shape. This would also help in having the bowl in the best place to get the toppings on the ice cream.

Ninja Creami is still number 1 in my book. You still have to plan ahead but I grabbed a few extra pints so we have a couple of base favourites always frozen so if you get an ice cream craving you can just grab a chocolate or vanilla, spin, mix in, and consuuuuuuume!
Protein shake masked as chocolate mint ice cream has completely re-invigorated my weekend exercise and food planning routine.
The creami will also spin different flavours all day long if you freeze in advance where this has a hard cap on how much you can make due to the bowl and extra bowls take up way too much space in a freezer. Looks like about 6 pints to 1 bowl in physical size. Plus an extra bowl is 40 bucks where extra creami pints are dirt cheap.

My mom used to work for a place with a commercial soft serve machine. She said it was the bane of her existence. It had to be cleaned thoroughly every night because soft serve doesn't get cold enough to prevent bacteria and mold growth.
Later in life, my uncle, who owns a small cafe, was looking to get a soft serve machine. Due to the strict cleaning process, the state I'm in had a license you need to acquire. The fee is astronomical and the requirements are exacting. My uncle said there was less paperwork in getting on the list to receive a liquor license when one is available.

The Cuisinart Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker is trying to do too much! it does not need the the "toppings dispensors" as those can literally just be added yourself and it feels like they were trying to fill out space with such an addition. Would had much preferred the ice cream making drum be larger for larger quantity's to be made. Open hole in the top? i'd return the product immediately if i bought this and there was nothing to cover that hole. i can see that you are getting "watery ice cream" so there's another reason to return it.

So a couple things. I know that in order for viewers to see the process you have to dispense from behind the machine but holding the cone or bowl closer to the dispenser while swirling a bit makes a more uniform ice cream. Second is the dispenser handle is pressure sensitive switching to the down position starts the dispensing but holding down the handle with firm pressure should make it dispense faster. Of course not too hard coz that's going to break it, but enough pressure to make the dispensing faster and holding it closer.

Soft serve typically has less milk fat. I worked for Dairy Queen in the 70’s, which called their soft serve ice milk. It seems like Cruisinart uses the same chemicals in the freezing bowl as any other ice cream maker. It just that you’re serving it sooner. If they did a little research, I’m sure they could have found a chemical combination that doesn’t cool to too low temperatures so the ice cream remains softer for longer.
