    Thanks, great video, could it be also due theta value increasing near expiration and making extrinsic value to drop more quickly, knowing that IV drop also results in theta dropping as well ?

    given the assymetry of the risk/reward in iron condor, the 80% win rate may still only yield a $0 expected return over time. Would appreciate any discussion of what other filters you put on this trade to increase expected return..thx

    •  Месяц назад

      No, the expected return over 100 trades is -$18000, or a loss of -$180 per trade.

    I don't understand the delta numbers. Delta is between 0 and 1, so what are these double digit values?

    So why would you close all your positions instead of letting all 4 expire? Maybe because you only make another 300 if you hold and if you clear out you could focus on another one tomorrow for 1500?

      because that day the price was not even close to the short call strike, but after a strong move on positive earnings you never know if the price will continue to climb. Never let a winner become a loser. It's not uncomon to see another gap (up or down) the next day after an earnings release. Also 18% return overnight its an excellent out come, it's smarter to close the trade and move on to the next one.

    WHY do they never use PROFIT AND LOSS graphs to make things ten times easier????

    •  Месяц назад

      Because that would reveal them as phony, with strategies that are easy disproven with basic math (see my post). This is a failing strategy, losing $180 with each trade over time, being sold as a winning strategy.

    These options videos are misleading and no newbie should be trading these “strategies”. Well ok, maybe if your goal is to have fun and not to make money, then yes, why not. Saying there is 80% win rate is meaningless.
    You rarely speak about the worst case scenario, which in this case is: 5 * 100 * 20 - 1820 = 8180. The expectancy is then: 0.8 * 1820 - 0.2 * 8180 = 1456 - 1636 = -180. So it is a losing/break-even strategy.
    This can be wrong if one can show that usually the market overestimates the volatility, which is quite a lot of effort and is the kind of research I would have loved to see in your videos instead!
    In any case, one has to be realistic. The expectancy is very low regardless, there is no free lunch as per usual.

      Not misleading. That's why you have to do your homework. He clearly states that if you're on the selling the iron condor, you need to have $8100 on the account. Simply do your own homework

    •  Месяц назад

      @maxxmahh, you get it. Average loss per trade is -$180. This is a losing strategy, sold as a winning one. Entirely misleading, bordering on fraudulent. Both SMB and Tastytrade are pushing the same nonsense on an uninformed public.

    •  Месяц назад

      @maxxmahh, thanks for taking the time to educate the public on these scams, despite some not having a grasp on the 2nd grade math involved in disproving this strategy.

  •  Месяц назад +3

    Still, this is a LOSING strategy.
    You win 80% of the time and gain $1820. However, 20% of the time you lose $8180.
    Over 100 trades, you win, on average, 80x$1820 and lose 20x$8180. (80*1820)-(20*8180)= -$18000.
    So, follow this strategy is you want to LOSE $18000 over 100 trades.
    Simple math folks. If you win $1 99% of the time and lose $1000 1% of the time, you will, over time, lose $901.

    • @ZachAtkeson
      @ZachAtkeson Месяц назад +1

      This is only true if you allow your losing trades to reach full loss potential each time. I don't know why anyone would do that when you can cut early OR play defense by rolling the position.

    • @fubolibs4218
      @fubolibs4218 Месяц назад

      no. U lose one side and not both sides. And 20% depends on how much it moves. For example if the call side is 810 and stock gets to 812 you actually would still be net positove because the calls u wrote at 810 has far more volatility the day before and that premium gets crushed. Of course you would lose if it goes to 1000 but if you have 820 call options you are protected 80 of that minus what you paid for the initial premium.
