I’ve got a 1998 H1 wagon that I’ve put 110K miles on. Been thru mud, sand, snow, ice roads, crawling, even crossed a 5 foot deep river. Never had to use my winch. Been really dependable. Only gets 12 mpg in diesel but you can’t have everything.

Voice behind camera: *Patrol struggles with rocks* telling million infos where to go *Hummer comes* yeah that's because of the long wheelbase. *Hummer passes easily the obsticles* --> silence.
Cherokee Trailhawk "ohh my gosh , no flex , that thing is hiking a tire !". Hummer H1 "Woah , it's lifting a tire , hummers are awesome!!". They have the same RTI basically lol... No , I'm not saying a Cherokee Trailhawk is as good as a Hummer, I'm just saying that they behave the same. Honestly, as long as you have enough grip, hiking a tire is a GREAT thing to happen because you're decreasing rolling resistance while climbing ba difficult obstacle. You can see this as an advantage at the end of this video!
@@royj8549 i was talking about serious off roading while doing hard work, like hauling baggage and food or troops and ammunition. If the requirements are the same for doing military service (tough, 4wd, low range, diff locks, clearance, articulation, break over angle, load carrying abality etc etc) and rock crawling/serious off roading (see above) then I can say due to the correlations between most but not all, they were designed for it? Where as the Patrol can do it and will do it, but was designed to be more in the middle. Not as comfortable (driving and features) as other SUV's but also not as hardcore heavy- duty- off- road work designed as the Hummer.
@@ZaberBiest For overlanding, yes, the requirements would be similar to military. But a stock HMMWV would be very poor for technical offroading. Most do NOT have lockers, only limited slip. They have nearly no suspension travel, and the rocker ground clearance is no better than my Ram 2500 or this Patrol. The Hummer does not have as much advantage here, especially against a heavily modified, armored, dual solid axle, triple locked Patrol. The only benefit I can see are bigger tires and superior departure angle. But I'm listening, if you can find more obvious advantages.
Always loved the H1, what a manly vehicle. I am actually surprised at how little wheel articulation it has. Seems to do pretty damn good off road. I just picked up a set of the same 40in nitto tires, can’t wait to see how it handles off road. Thanks for the video 👍🏻
hummer did better than i thought it would. is the bloke in the patrol "special" or something? keep telling him to turn right and he keeps straight and at one point starts to turn left.
If you listen closely to the video, there were issues for the patrol driver attempting to turn the wheel to the right (mechanical issues with the vehicle). If you're familiar with rock crawling, there are times where a vehicle can be difficult if not impossible to turn one way or another.
It would be interesting to see how they would go if the drivers changed trucks.....probably much the same........the Nissan driver has far more work to get through compared to the Hummers driver.
These comparisons are of no value really; how well the 4x4 does in these situations depends entirely on the driver. What is fun is watching how each individual handles themselves in these very challenging tracks. The Hummer driver certainly had the better eye for choosing the right line - awesome 4b as well : )
hey guys,,,its been awhile....ive been watching some videos of off roaders, here in the states...moab,etc.etc....I gotta tell you ...you need to come over here to the states, and show some of these folks, how to drive...I get so frustrated watching some of these " wanna be off roaders"...it is a joke...you could make a ton with your style of driving, with an off road school....you guys are the best....a level way above most.....take care,jb
That Patrol moved 2 rocks with a combined weight close to (if not more than) the weight of an SUV, with just the torque of one tire LMFAO... Much respect lol.... Most viewers would break their little crossovers trying that lol..
I have an 80 and a hmmwv. Both are the most capable and dependable off-roaders I have ever owned. I favor the hmmwv more but the 80 sees more trail time. Only reasons for that are the 80's suspension is more comfortable and repair parts are way cheaper. However, if I ever get the 80 really stuck, which is hard to do, the hmmwv is always able to rescue it. It is weird seeing the h1 in rhd. Is that done at the factory or was it modified for your market?
That was great to see, thank you,I had an 80 for 21 years, a group of us would go 4x4ing, my 92 model had no problems staying with all the latter newer models with all the extras, and my 80 was stock standard. I now drive the 2020 200. And that's pretty good. Cheers
its because it got bad media with the gas shit. I get 11 mpg. Its no different than a big truck. But because of that it got labeled and people stopped buying them.

The People that talk crap about Bummers are referring to the B2&B3, the original is capable if you've got a really wide trail and don't require tons of clearance. I could never wheel something with 0 flex though, it's unsafe.
Because the Hummer has a lower transfer case and differential gear ratio. Therefore it has a better crawl ratio. Hummers were designed to carry heavy loads so their gearing naturally lends itself to rock crawling.

I like the patrol. Less revving but still turns the wheels and it has good shock absorber. It seems to be lighter that the Hummer.
The TD42 has extremely high torque at low revs. Rarely any reason to rev it past 2500rpm on a track.
I like how the dude at 2:54 sees he ripped up his fender but just waves it off like it's no big deal. True offroader right there lol
Indeed. Its part and parcel of what we do. Never fun but its a risk thats always present.
It's rare to see rock crawling videos online where the people know what they're doing. Nice finesse up those rocks.
Thank you for the comment. Have you looked at our other videos? You'll find more of this style of crawling 👍
Their other vids are just as good !
Looks Like HAMMER Is a King.. Very Stable and Competent. Amazing work!
I have heard so many bad things about Hummers, and this modified Nissan made the Hummer look like the main winner.
Hummers are great, as long as you have the money to maintain them.

Patrol was môre impressive, as it was not designed for something like that.
The Hummer is expected to do good because it was designed to be.
Patrol is designed to do the same, while H1 designed for going to war
Rock crawling was the last thing AM General had in mind designing a general patrol / light weapons platform during the cold war...

of course, its American made. I own a Hummer and drove the Humvee when I was in the Army. Amazing vehicle.

I love the Hummer; It is truly a muscle truck synonymous to the US Mil
I hate that GM discontinued the Hummer. It had the potential to be something magnificent.
its because it got bad media with the gas shit. I get 11 mpg. Its no different than a big truck. But because of that it got labeled and people stopped buying them.
Thought China bought the model and even has put out a hybrid in production
amg produced the h1 gm only supplied the engine and transmission. gm bought the rights to the hummer for the h2 h3 models
AMC H1 for the win, leave it to the American democrats to rape it and turn into the turd H2 and H3..,✌️
