4x4 Challenge (40inch Tires vs The Rest) @ Unimog Hill

- Unimog Hill has seen better days, but this time around, it was not for the faint-hearted. The steps have gotten exposed that much, that even the Patrol on 40" tyres struggled for clearance. A wide range of vehicles attempted this rocky hill climb with various tyre sizes. Nissan Patrol ran 10psi pressure on beadlocked rims. Others ran their minimum pressures that they could without air leaks, ranging from 14 to 20 psi. This is a video you've been waiting for. Enjoy watching!! ...
This track is classed as a hard to extreme 4x4 difficulty trail, but can be made hard or even extreme 4x4 if one wants. The name of this track derived from the times when only a Unimog, with the help of the portal axle clearance, could succeed climbing it. Nowadays, the track conditions vary greatly from year to year, depending on how much rain gushes down this part of the hill during each season. There were times of succeeding the climb with only 2 inches of lift and 31" tyres, and at other times unsuccessful with 4 inches of lift and 35" tyres.
The lineup included five live axle 4WD vehicles:
• the silver "monster truck" looking Nissan Patrol Y61 on 8" lift and 40" sticky Maxxis Trepadors on Procomp alloy beadlocked rims;
• a twin locked Toyota Land Cruiser LC79 ute (pickup truck) on 4" lift and 35" tyres;
• a green, twin locked, Toyota Land Cruiser LC80 on a 4" lift and 33" BF Goodrich KM2's;
• a green, twin locked Land Rover 110 County (Defender) on 33" BFG KM2 tyres;
• and a red, twin locked, Toyota Land Cruiser LC80 on 5" lift and 35" Silverstone Extreme MT-117 tyres.

Just Take the Right line and u will make it
What brand and model tire is on the red land cruiser lc80 10:14
@@douglasbeary7890 Fedima Sirocco, Ziarelli extreme forest and many others. They all have same tread, i have set of malatesta kaiman tires and they look the same. I dont know about those others but malatesta is retread tyre.
Out of curiosity, why aren't the vehicles lifted more? It seems if they had a bigger lift they could fit some bigger tires and then carry a little more speed without worrying as much about bottoming out.
ghostcell030 great idea! They’d roll over and tumble to the bottom much easier then
Personally I'm a Yota fan, but that Nissan at the beginning is a beast!
Davtopgun Patrol with big tires 40 lol!
Nissan patrol was smooth loved it. And the man in red LC is the king of clutch march.. some awesome work at the way up brilliant❤
Thanks for the comment 👍 Glad you liked it 😊
@@AussieFourWheelers ❤
Clutch march?
Man, I was freaked when the green cars front right tyre raised but damn you guys jumped onto the car to help him. That's the spirit
That red Land Cruiser gave em hell!
That Nissan (Patrol) and driver are badass!!! Very impressive. Tires make a big difference. Great video.
Thanks 👍 Thanks for leaving a comment too 👍 Glad you liked the video.
Things appeared to be going well until the white truck showed up and spun the hill all to hell! Anway lots of fun here some good wheeling too
Thanks a lot 👍 Glad you enjoyed it.
When the Defender nearly went over my heart went a bit fast too hehe... nice save... always a great video from you boys. You're what I would call top drawer off roaders - doing it for real!
Hahaha 😂😂 Thanks bud. Glad you like our videos.

Great video and thanks for listing the rigs, the tires and the times they appear. Followed it closely!
You're welcome bud. Thank you for watching and leaving feedback 👍👍👍
Great driving and great knowing when to quit. Me..... I probably would have said screw that and went up on the left side instead of being in the rut but I wasn't there so my opinion doesn't matter. Great video.
Thanks a lot bud 👍 also thanks for taking the time to comment.
Be right back.... just change my daks!!!!! Great video big kahunas!
HAHA 😂 Cool, thanks mate 👍 Glad you enjoyed it.
I've never attempted this hill. I can tell you though that from the bottom it looks almost vertical. Nice effort dude!
Thanks a lot mate 👍 It does look intimidating. Videos never do justice.
The best patrol i've evr seen greetings from india
Thank you very much 👍 Glad you liked it 😊 Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
That Nissan Patrol on 40s also had better articulation for climbing. But the other trucks look like they could of aired down more.
Great collection of trucks.....
Thanks for the details on the other rides. Help us build our rigs based on y'alls' experience.
Glad 😊
Just go round it! lol That is hard core stuff! way to out there for me but good on ya for showing us real 4wd tracks. You guy's are crazy! lol
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍 Glad you liked it.
I dont usually like patrols but the first one is bloody nice
Thanks mate 👍
Aussie Four Wheelers what tires are on the patrol?
+Paul Kirk Maxxis Trepador
that is the problems of most people who dont lik3 something and think it is the worst
Man you guys have so of the coolest trucks and trails! Greetings from Chicago Illinois USA:-)
Sorry for the misspelled! I meant to say!" Some of the coolest trails and trucks" :-)
Thank you very much bud 👍 Greetings to you too, from Down Under 👋
I had an old f series ford that would out climb all of those with ease
Poor yankees cant have those bad boys in the States.
Greetings from Belize mate! I have been watching you guys on your 4x4 they look tough and you guys really know how to go offroad! We here enjoy watching your 4x4 videos their extreme!
Thank you, thank you very very much 👍👍👍👍👍 Glad you enjoy watching our offroad adventures. Thanks heaps for commenting too.
Great channel just found it. I'll have to admit at first it's a little freaky watching them come up that hill and seeing what the driver side is here in the USA empty.
Haha 😂 Thanks for the laugh 👍 Glad you like our channel.
Ha ya b guggg
Good to see a Patrol! I have a 1969 it's the coolest.
And now you understand why we love our 40's and 42's here in the states.
Others here think it's compensating 😂
@@AussieFourWheelers well yeah. We ain't gonna willingly get hung up on a little ledge like that. The proof is in your video.
You're very right, but blind can't see HAHA. They think it's about d!ck-sizing because that's how they are themselves!
I mean sure they are great for this, but for the average driver who wants them traveling across the Simpson or on the highway. If it's not a touring or daily driver they are good but it's single purpose.
Nissan Patrol is one of the best cars on off roads, I'm currently using one in Sierra Leone. It has a whole lot of qualities as compared to others.
Tires are everything, O and u need a good driver and spotters .
Much love from Philly!
Thank you 👍 Love from Down Under 💛
absolutely awesome driving skills by red TLC80 driver! and kudoz for having good load front (passenger). helps a lot on a steep hill. possibly saved rollover... He should have hanged spare from roof rack onto front bullbar (easy to secure with winch), it would possibly helped to get above cliff...
40' maxis are the king of the hill though.
awesome vid, what a pleasure to watch! thanks a lot!
Thank you very much 👍 Glad you enjoyed watching. Top comment 👌 Thanks for taking the time to leave one.
Man those trepadors are SOOOOOO sexy ain't they...best looking tires out there can't wait to get a set for my zj
Yeah, great tires, perform very well, just wear out fast lol
Be nice to see more Xj's. Think mine would of did that hill pretty nice and it's on 33's🤙
@LittleTinyBabyJesus no I just send it🤦🏼♂️
@LittleTinyBabyJesus 😂🤣.
Man this Nissan is a true off road and should be the best, but will not be tell to the public
I am big toyota fanboy but that Patrol was a beast!
Thank you so much 😎😎😎
Even the guy in the boat had to watch the action.
Haha 👌 yes! Nice spotting 👍👍👍
What about pressures? It looks like Patrol had it heaps lower than others...
Bart Racki bead locks for the win.
Bart Racki the tires of it
Everyone had the lowest they could without leaking air. The Patrol had beadlocked rims, therefore lower pressure.
What kind of tires are on the first vehicle?
autohog Maxxis Trepador.
Some really awesome vehicles !! Wish that black jk would have made it out that day!
Yeah, we wish too. Thanks for watching 👍 Glad you enjoyed it.
So much better without music
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
yeah..
Nice Diesel monsters Music..
Absolutely,I agreed.
Go the gu patrol go beast of a 4x4 the Nissan gu patrol is
The title should be ''treps versus any other tire'' those maxxis trepadors are sweet, were those sticky compound ?
Yes, those were stickies.
Good quality video and nicely shot!
Thank you very much 👍 Glad you liked it.
wow really shows the advantage them tyres have 👌👍
Definitely 💪 Thanks for watching mate 👍
Everyone nearly had to much Air Pressure in the tires, except for the first vehicle who was running the best to grip or roll over the rocks vice make it loose the traction.
John Soriano he was the only one with bead locks
+John Soriano What's a good tyre pressure in your opinion?
the lowest
And had 40#er's
This is the best off road channel....love from Pakistan ❤
Nissan 😍
Wow nice 😊
comes a time when 40" tires are the difference between getting over the obstacle and not.
8:17 that guy running so fast down i thought he would push that defender to roll over🤣
The 40s had less loose dirt to run on, it should have gone last.
Awesome channel
Thanks 👍👍👍
نيسسسااان فتك😍😍😍😍❤️nissan patrol VTC4800
1:00 I love this car!!!!
Thanks 😊😊😊
nice human counter weights on the rover 😜
😂😂😂
Maxxis treps doing some good work.
Yeah, awesome tyres 👌
That gu made it look easy
I've never seen two Land Cruisers fail in the same... decade 😁
Dam those r some cool looking cars
Thanks bud 👍 Glad you liked them.
Are these rigs mostly your daily drivers? Great climbs.
Yeah, mainly dailies.
Gari ni kadere oyaa !! Bring those beasts on Kenyan drivers fire fire***
Nice one, the climb is pretty steep, not for faint hearted indeed. :) What I don't understand is once the tires start gettin loose on dirt, it doesn't get any better, the car will just keep digging in. Why didn't you guys use a winch? I see most cars are equipped with it. It would help so the track wouldn't wear off so quickly and other vehicles might pass it. Cheers!
It was only an attempt to do without the winch as it's a short trail and meets back up with the dirt road below.
Tough climb. Probably worse in person. I hate backing down things like this! Is there a reason they call it UniMog hill? :)
You're 100% right that it's much worse in person, almost looking vertical. Yes, there's a reason, back in the 90s only a Unimog was able to conquer the trail without using a winch. There used to be a massive step.
@@AussieFourWheelers I've had (still have one) 2 unimog 404's, and when I get them stuck on hills I probably shouldn't be going up, I hate backing down. I laid my radiobox on it's side as I backed down a very steep hill in the dark, only to get off the trail which caused the cg to shift. Best not to back down without spotters!
@@Mogman150 true 👌
I have had a patrol, landcruiser and a pajero and have done lots of offroading. Agree with another comment that the patrol should have gone last they are far better than toyota’s!
Lol 👌
Straighten up, oh by straighten up I mean turn how I want you too lol
NESSAN..BATROOL
good👍👍
Thanks 👍
Amazing car
that must have a hill from hell if only 40inch tyers made it up... we done to all the drivers for giving it a go, would have been interesting to see that SWB JK with the 37s giving it a go.
Yeah, the JK couldn't join us that time, but surely 37s would've made it. And yes, it's a very steep hill, but the terrain change constantly. Sometimes you can climb it with 31s, other times you can't do it on 35s etc. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment mate.
love to drive the off track it was awsome🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵
Glad you liked it 😊 Thanks for watching 👍
I know exactly how you all can make it up the hill. WALK! LMAO
HAHAHA 😂😂😂
Сафари просто монстр
отличное видео, спасибо!
Спасибо за просмотр 👍
I own Unimogs and this would even be a challenge for them!
Haha 😆 thanks for your input.
it's called unimog hill because a unimog was destroyed when it rolled there
You know you've got good mates when they'll hang off the side of your truck while you reverse downhill to save you from rolling
Very cool man, love your channel. Would love to see how my 2016 4runner does on this trail. Probably not any better haha.
Thanks man 👍 Glad you like our channel 😊 Thanks for following us. Also, welcome to join if it's not hard shipping the 4Runner.
I love Nissan cars 👌 the patrol is a beast 💪🏼
面白そうな遊びですね♪
Why do they call then landrollovers?
nice video
Glad you liked it 😊 Thanks for watching 👍
Nissan patrol the legend.
💪💪💪 Go the Patrol‼
The legend is the unimog
Black Toyota driver have good skill👌🏻
it's all about the spotter in these situations. first one spotting for the patrol was best. I think he came back to guide the burgandy cruiser out of trouble. just my opinion .
Hardcore stuff
Glad you liked it 😊
I would like to see formula off road on that hill
needs to get these cool vehicles in the u.s
Yeah, shame that the Patrol wasn't available in North America. Really strong vehicles. Land Cruisers are also rare as!
Wow nice 😍😍
Thanks 👍
CRIKEY. This video is LIT! Loved seeing the comparative benefits of the big wheels. Oh by the way, Ansell Condom Factory rang to say they are running low and can they have their rubber back? hehe Cheers!
Lol 😂😂😂 Thanks mate 👍 Glad you liked the video.
The guy on the 40s should have went up the hill one more time at the end 😂
Yeah 😂
Esta buenisimo
Gracias 👍
How much lift do you reckon you would need to put 38"/40" tires on a 60 series. Do you know how much it costs to get lift and wheels like that enginneered.
You can't get those sizes engineered and you'll need good 6-8" of lift and still a bit of cutting 😉
The difference a good big tire makes.
Patrol en puissance 😎😎😎
If truck kept bounce, mean too much air in tires? Or shocks is too loosing?
or soft springs?
Very nice, I like to join with them someday guys
You're welcome to join. Send us a PM via FB please.
Джип- джип, Ура!
What is the Unimog Hill? Is there a connection to the Unimog?
Yes, back in the days, only a Unimog could climb the hill.
Lesson learned... always go first.
Lol 😂 there was another Nissan stuck there with a popped bead before the "first" one, had to swap the tyre and reverse back down, but unfortunately didn't get that on the video. Only got a pic: instagram.com/p/BSlxGCnBFIH/?igshid=hskqqx1tfnst
What is the differences between a 40inches tires and the other type tires?!.. is just the size and air compression?!
Also diff clearance and size of footprint.
@@AussieFourWheelers oooh i see, i understood.. thanks bros!
You're welcome bro!
I have a TLC Prado and the problem with Toyota is, despite their powerful engines, the cars are too heavy. Basically the weight is a challenge to the power of the engine particularly when climbing
Patrol weighs a good ton more than a prado
Nice
Thanks for watching.
8:17 Nice butt scratch 😂👌🏻
Hahaha 😂😂😂
I think there's a better chance with less throttle, seems like just idling gets better traction?
Yes and no, depends.
Another title could be The guy who knows how to air down his tyres vs the rest.
Damn I wanna go there now. Too bad I live in the states
You're welcome to join if you ever visit.
Several of those others should have easily made it but they either didn't air down or not nearly enough.
How would you know lol. What is a good pressure in your opinion?
40 inch treps will turn a weak ride into a capable one even with out lockers. Add lockers and hope your friends can reach you.
