I love that you mention expressive plants. People say that droopy planys are dramatic but I love those because it takes the guess work out of watering and stuff. My thicker leave plants I'm always scared this is the day I kill that thing from over watering.
The second you mentioned plants that die after forgetting to water it once, I immediately thought of my fittonia plant. It's legitimately got crunchy lol
My boyfriend actually got me addicted to plants with his syngonium podophyllum, he called it the plant that, “ never dies”. About 10yrs later it’s a beast and does good in low light and great in direct light. Also propagates like a champ. Love syngonium(green arrow).
I think the snake plant or sansaveria is the most common or popular plant and my favorite is the red prayer plant. I love the colors on it so much and the new leaves every day! my parlor palm is a close second favorite for the history and the beauty
LOVE the Norfolk Pine shout out. I'm a big fan of this plant. One of the first plants that managed to survive my care. I acquired it one winter around Christmas, a couple of yrs ago when I moved into a new place without any Christmas decorations and it's been showing up for me ever sense.
I’ve been binge watching your videos in lockdown here in Toronto! Thank you for helping me build a beginner plant collection, it’s seriously helped my happiness, and mental health while sheltering in place. Also, the stale apartment smell is gone! Thank you Harli. Hope you and your family are all well and safe ❤️
I do have to disagree about the ivy ...somewhat They were my first plant and I don't know if I was just lucky or what, but I found that keeping them alive were SUPER EASY. Until I went on vacation and my brother, who PROMISED to water it, didn't... My poor little guy dried, and he never recovered from it :'c After that I got all my ivy form my grandma, and never had problems with spidermites. And then I thought I'd go out and buy one, brought it home... aaand there weres pidermites EVERYWHERE on it! I didn't notice until the day after, which meant they had already spread to my other one. I threw them both out in order to save all my other plants. Lesson learned, never buy ivy at a store ever again, and check all the plants you buy thoroughly. But I've never had spidermites show up on any of my plants in any other way. It's been several years since this, and now I have ivy everywhere in my bedroom, and I just keep propagating them and they're amazing
I agree I have two ivy plants that were my first plants and they are huge and do so well. I guess everyone is different and has certain plants they aren’t good with. I have killed two polka dot plants and I’ve heard those are supposed to be easy🤷🏻♀️
Love your recommendations! Sanseverias are easy-I have several varieties-they don’t need to be watered very often. I love watching babies come up-propagate them & you have even more! Happy to see you back!
I am a new houseplant person. I have a monstera deliciosa, sansevieria, dieffenbachia, agleonema, and golden pothos. The first three are outside on my screened in porch, the other two are inside. The monstera and dieffenbachia are THRIVING. The sansevieria looks about the same...to be honest, I don't pay it as much attention, so I don't know how much new growth it has, if any. My agleonema is doing well and the pothos is my new baby and it seems to be okay for now too. My favorites are definitely the monstera and dieffenbachia. I love seeing the new leaves pop up and I think it's because they are so noticeable when the new growth happens. I love watching the new leaves unfurl!! :) I haven't really moved them around because they all seem to be doing fine in their current lighting and nursery pots. I water when they feel dry and that's been working so far.
Love this one so much!! I was so excited you said that you think bird of paradise is an easy one, because I bought two of them a few weeks ago! So far they are both loving life! I cant wait until they are huge!! Plus I have one Norfolk Pine too, and I love it. Mine is about one and a half years old.
I think one of the best is the Spider-Plant!!!! really forgiving with both under and overwatering, low light tolerant, easy to propagate, what else can you ask out of a plant! And there are all green ones, at least 2 variegations I'm aware of, and even a curly one! but that one I've heard it's a bit more challenging. Any way, a great plant for beginners and experienced platen keepers
the first plant i ever got was a diffenbachia (dumb cane) and i've personally found it's super easy to care for!! keep in mind they are poisionous so if you do want one and have young kids/pets keep them up high!! or maybe just steer clear of them if you think it will be an issue 😊😊
I'm just recently getting into this hobby and am going to try to get my first plant after my birthday (july 7th) i have planted basil, tomato, and bell peppers and they have done well but this was with my mother's help. This plant will be my first plant on my own and I'm planning on once i have a grasp on this i plan on taking care of more plants. I love plants and always thought they liven up rooms and they are really beautiful!
I agree that monstera deliciosa is quite easy & grows relatively fast. I tend to underwater and have lost a few plants for that reason. Another easy plant is Jade.
I just got a white Bird of Paradise today & I'm super excited about it! it's one that has been on my wishlist ever since I got into plants & I was so happy at first when I had found out that it wasn't as high-maintenance as I thought it was! I only have medium light in my room, so I'm not expecting it to bloom, but I am just so excited to just be able to thrive with it! :) I even named her Lucy! haha
Hi I know this has been out for a bit, but this video SAVED my BoP. Was concerned when you said yours was so fast-growing, because mine has put out only one leaf in 4 months. Went to move it to a new window, because I thought maybe it was the light. Immediately saw that there were dozens and dozens of millipedes living off the roots of my plant and killing it. Wouldn’t have checked as thoroughly without this video!
I would love to see a combo of this plus “safe for pets”! I think you’ve already done the safe for pets so maybe I need to watch both of these and compare (and also google 😂). I am finding all the plants I want won’t work with cats 😭
My personal fav plants that are safe for cats (I have 3 cats and did my research before I bought any of these plants), pretty much any peperomia varieties, cast iron plant, lipstick plant, boston fern, hindu rope, sweetheart hoya. Just to name a few 😊
Hi Harli! Very good choices! I do not have any luck with ivies. No matter what I do they get spider mites. I'm done with them. I've had good luck with Dracaena's. I have 3 different varieties and none are too fussy. Thank you for sharing!
ahh! i started with succulents and now im getting more and more indoor plants! so happy!!! i have many tiny but also a couple medium succulents that are super happy!! i have a money tree who is doing great. the trunks and starting to unbraid and im loving having it. i have a spider hanging plant and i still haven’t hung it yet whoops. it’s doing very good. there was a time where it was droopy and light and i tried all the tips and eventually i just gave it a ton of water and it bounced back. :) i have a tiny little bonsai (well it’s my dad but i care for it) and it’s doing good too! it was like $100 😬 glad my dad bought that one
Thanks Harli, for sharing another good, informative video. It sure helps us subscribers to know about easier plants, and its good to know if they would be good to give to others as gifts as well.
I got my Norfolk Island Pine last year and it's doing AMAZING!!!! It was 1ft tall and now its 3 1/2 ft. Tall. I'll try to figure out how to send you a picture 💞💞💞
Oh yeah monstera n golden pothos my first mush haves. Got it baby! Loved the in depth but general explanation for beginners do more like these. Thank you 👍
I just bought a HUGE monstera today at fred Meyers for 20 dollars today! Some of the leaves are already developing the holes inside of the outer fenestrations (not sure what they’re called) and the plant was damaged a little bit, but totally worth it for so cheap!
Harli, I've recently found your channel and the whole energy here lifts my mood every time. I've recently moved to a new city where I don't know anyone so I've been looking into getting plants to keep me company. is that weird? idk anyway, thanks for the quality content!
Watching your videos is not healthy for my purse. I've started with a curly spider plant (named Jessica, after Roger Rabbit's missus) but I've just added a bunch more to my Amazon cart. And maybe a cactus growing kit... Any chance of a video about transporting plants (for like, when you move house or something?) You're the bestest Plant Queen on RUclips - love your videos; very informative and amusing. And highly addictive. Thank you Xx
There is also a wax ivy plant that I didn’t know exsisted! I bought it and i reminds me of a hoya that was mixed with an ivy it’s super easy the plant will twirl around itself and when it needs water it will become super floppy
Harli! I would love to see you try out Semi hydro on some of your plants and hear your take and experiences with it. It’s growing in popularity but not much info on it with houseplants.
I’ve considered trying it! I really love water propagation so I think it would be kind of cool to watch plants grow that way. I’ll try it on a plant & film about the process ASAP 😊 thanks for the video idea
I love your channel because you are very informative. For me the Rattlesnake Plant is a easy beginner plant. I also have a Valentine Chinese Evergreen & I love it. Mine also have grown some weird looking flowers on it. I am trying a Dieffenbachia so I am hoping this plant is also a beginner plant. I would love to try a Lipstick Plant but so far I can not find one so that is on my list. I also want to try a String of Hearts. Keep up the wonderful work on the videos. Can not wait to see your next one :)
Hi and thanks, Do you have a list of these plants you've shown us here for those of us who aren't familiar with some of the names? Love your care details. Did you repot these right away? Thanks.
My absolute favorite plants are snake plants! I especially love the whalefin and cylindrica varieties! They’re so easy and I water them maaaaybe once a month
Ivy screwed with my mind. Started balding like an old man immediately when I brought it home. Chucked it outside for the summer and pretty much waiting for it to die in its nursery pot.
omg I literally laughed out loud when you said "not naming names or anything" like they might hear you hahahaha. thanks for this video! it's nice to get back to the basics! sometimes I think it's easy to get caught up in rare and 'difficult' plants when all of the ones in this video are so fun and beautiful to take care of! another amazing video Harli 💓
Thank you! It is actually an ink drawing a did that I had someone make into a graphic & added to a shirt! It's my favorite one I own now hahaha is that weird since I made it? :P
Love your video! And I agree, my scindapsus has survived being in low light and getting knocked over by my cat and it's still growing :) one that everyone finds easy but I don't is the spider plant, I tend to over water it. How can you tell when it's time to water it?
I just learned Pothos is also called "Devil's Vine" because its almost impossible to kill and I can only agree. They've been doing fine in North-facing rooms for me and I've never lost one of them (I currently have 7 pots with 3+ individual Pothos in them), plus they're so easy to get cuttings from. I have one question though: when you mention root rot, does that only happen when the plant is actually standing in water or do they rot too if the soil is simply kept too moist for some period of time?
Hi Harlingen. Can you please talk about how to identify when the Peperomia needs water? Perhaps a video or pictures of the plant when the show sign of needing water 🙏🏻. I'm struggling with both the Philodendron (mine is a Scandens though) and the Peperomia.
It’s funny you complained of peperomias because those are the plants that seem to do the best for me. I am struggling with the elephant bush/miniature sage. It’s scientific name is portulacara afra. Half the leaves are yellowing and the other half are drying out. I’d love some feedback on what to do to make it happy and healthy again if anyone has any tips.
One of my first plants was a Big Shot Ivy that i got from a home depot in like January, middle of winter. Now, here in June I swear its grown like 2 feet
Hey there. Thought I would throw my two cents in here. Usually that's caused by lower light or non well draining soil. Your best bet is to change the soil out.
#HarliG do you have anxiety? I used to have it when I did, I breathed as you do now. Like your passion for plants. Just bought my first Monstera. Huge new plant!! 12.99 at Lowes.
Bromeliads! Or guzmania, anyway. I don't see many people talk about them but my first plant was a bromeliad that was thriving until I went on holiday and my plantsitter mixed up my care directions and gave the bromeliad extra water and instead didn't water my other plant. :') But it's definitely good in my experience if you're a novice underwaterer!
Harly we miss you .. I hope that my plants will be like your healthy plants Thank you harly for this full informative video .. love your shinning eyes 🌹🌹🌺🌿❤️
I feel the SAME about Ivy! Plus, when I was young my mom had stenciled ivy all over her room. Ivy pattern on her bedspread...it was everywhere. So I guess at a young age I had already had my fair share of ivy. 😂😂🤷♀️🤷♀️ Plus they're seriously not an easy plant! And I can keep plants alive!
I love my monsteras but it keeps getting bugs. First it was thrips and now my new one has some weird white bug I've never seen. If it weren't for the whole bug issue, I'd say they are pretty easy. I also agree on the ivy, I can't keep them happy. I got a plant of ivy as a sympathy basket when my cat passed away a couple of years ago, and it's down to one strand. It's holding on for dear life in my greenhouse. I think the only plant that could have been included would be the snake plant. There are so many different varieties and color variegation that it's hard to get bored with the plant. Plus, it's low maintenance and pretty hardy against pests and disease.
When you mentioned that it’s easy to overcare for your plants it gave me flashbacks to the beginning of my journey. I collected about 40 plants in a very short time span. I’d buy one and think it needed to be repotted immediately, and watered excessively… I killed Every. Single. One. I’m like 3 years deep in my plant journey i don’t even know why I’m watching this video I just love your channel 😂 I can’t even remember the last time I killed a plant
I've had huge bad luck with the satin pothos. I water it when the leaves curl and when the soil feels dry, however, every time I give it water, the leaves turn yellow, and they later die from root rot :( I don't even water them too heavily though :(
Im pretty sure you could put pothos in gasoline can in the dark and it will still live. Literally left mine in the basement with no light when i put the christmas decor up ( i intended to find a place to put it after i got the christmas stuff up and done but i forgot) . it lived and produced new leaves for 2 months with no light and pretty much no water. The basement is humid but still thats impressive. Only maybe 5 dead or yellow leaves on the whole thing. Iv got a vine in my windowless bathroom and its doing great.
I think aloe Vera is a pretty easy plant. Just give it light and water once every three weeks and it's good to go. The mistake people often do is to water them too much but I found that the less you do to them the better they are. Definitely an easy plant if you are the type to forget your plants may need water or if you are traveling a lot
I also think that the Monstera is one of the most popular. I felt like I finally fulfilled a dream when I got a Monstera
I totally felt the same way when I first got one! It has to be one of the most popular for sure! (:
That is on my list! However, I think my dream Monstera is the Monstera Adansonii. That is like GOALS! So beautiful and delicate.
Sassy Pants i have one, 100% recommend, beautiful plant. The leaves look like velvet when the sun hits them.
Klaas Kingma i agree! It was one of my wish list plants
@@DontYouJuana oh my goodness I can't wait. Someday.... *starts daydreaming about plants*
I love that you mention expressive plants. People say that droopy planys are dramatic but I love those because it takes the guess work out of watering and stuff. My thicker leave plants I'm always scared this is the day I kill that thing from over watering.
You are my FAV plant RUclipsr FOR SUREEEEEEE. love your videos. Love love love!
oh yeah, no question about it she's my favorite!
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Harli G you’re very welcome!!
Watered my ZZ for the first time in two months. It’s constantly putting out new growth tho.
David Pennington they’re wild eh?!!
Mine too! I don’t know what I’m doing right but imma just keep doing it🤷♂️
The second you mentioned plants that die after forgetting to water it once, I immediately thought of my fittonia plant.
I bought a fern and quickly learned my lesson. I’ll wait a bit before I try again on ferns.
Yup same here. Ferns intimidate me now
you can try fire or asparagus ferns, they are much hardier than true ferns
Lol Ferns are tricky for sure. I have a kangaroo paw fern and it's so easy!! Maybe give that a try and it may just restore your faith in ferns. Lol
Could you share with us a written list of these? I would really, really appreciate it. Tyia
I just recently got a silver pothos!!! It's my favorite ☺️
Congrats! It's such a fun plant! (:
I just bought a Monstera!
Lucky
You upload frequently and it's always so good how have you not got more subs!
I do have to disagree about the ivy ...somewhat
They were my first plant and I don't know if I was just lucky or what, but I found that keeping them alive were SUPER EASY. Until I went on vacation and my brother, who PROMISED to water it, didn't...
My poor little guy dried, and he never recovered from it :'c
After that I got all my ivy form my grandma, and never had problems with spidermites.
And then I thought I'd go out and buy one, brought it home... aaand there weres pidermites EVERYWHERE on it! I didn't notice until the day after, which meant they had already spread to my other one. Felicia Larsen I’ve killed two... i want to own one so bad.. lol
I agree I have two ivy plants that were my first plants and they are huge and do so well. I guess everyone is different and has certain plants they aren’t good with. I have killed two polka dot plants and I’ve heard those are supposed to be easy🤷🏻♀️
I love the split screen in this video Harli !! Great informative video . Oh and my the way... loving my plants from The Plant Hall !!! ❤❤❤
Love your recommendations! Sanseverias are easy-I have several varieties-they don’t need to be watered very often. I love watching babies come up-propagate them & you have even more! Happy to see you back!

Love it! How about medium care plants next? It would be great to go through all your plants.
I just checked off 4 wishlist plants this past weekend I'm so excited! And I'm always down for adding more (thanks to this video haha)
Omg, I love that you speak about other beautiful plants that no one talks about like the Norfolk Pine, kalanchoe and a fittonia in your other videos.
Yay! Jusy the video i wanted. Cant wait to watch when I'm off work!
Love this one so much!! I was so excited you said that you think bird of paradise is an easy one, because I bought two of them a few weeks ago! So far they are both loving life! I cant wait until they are huge!! Plus I have one Norfolk Pine too, and I love it. Mine is about one and a half years old.
This indeed is a good list for plant beginners. Thanks for sharing😊👍❤.

I am farrrrrrr too happy that you posted this video!!!!!🌱🌱🌱🌱
I love this list! I haven't seen a few of these on anybody else's, and I haven't seen that pine at all!
My Spider plant has been one of my easiest plants. I just split 2 out of a nursery pot and they have new roots in less than 2 weeks!
Oh Yeah! I agree about hoyas and peps!!! I didn't know I shouldn't water them in after I had repotted them and that was it!
Really enjoyed this video! Think I may have been watering my arrowhead plants too much. Thanks for reminding me to ease up! Lol
I just got a white Bird of Paradise today & I'm super excited about it! it's one that has been on my wishlist ever since I got into plants & I was so happy at first when I had found out that it wasn't as high-maintenance as I thought it was! Yay I got a cherry limeade & a Harli notification!
DAY MADE 🌱🙌
BRB heading out for a Cherry Limeade now :P That sounds so satisfying at the moment haha
Extremely helpful information on houseplant care, thank you.

I would love to see a combo of this plus “safe for pets”! I think you’ve already done the safe for pets so maybe I need to watch both of these and compare (and also google 😂). I am finding all the plants I want won’t work with cats 😭
Same
My personal fav plants that are safe for cats (I have 3 cats and did my research before I bought any of these plants), pretty much any peperomia varieties, cast iron plant, lipstick plant, boston fern, hindu rope, sweetheart hoya. Just to name a few 😊
Oh and maranta (prayer plant)
@@jenlynn6534 money trees also 😊
JenniferLynn L thank you! I have a few of those already. I have three cats too! I haven’t been able to find a cast iron plant anywhere!
I love all of these plants :) I am one who has hundreds of plants, but my favourite has to be the pothos!
i have a tiny little bonsai (well it’s my dad but i care for it) and it’s doing good too! it was like $100 😬 glad my dad bought that one
The busy lizzie and umbrella tree are two great house plants.
Great tips for us beginners ,thank you 😀
I found a cebu blue pothos at Walmart! I only knew what it was because I watched this video. I made sure to buy it. It’s beautiful.
Thanks Harli, for sharing another good, informative video. It sure helps us subscribers to know about easier plants, and its good to know if they would be good to give to others as gifts as well.
"Oh my god I did that, some dirt got in my eye" But serious plant lady problems right there hahahaha
I got my Norfolk Island Pine last year and it's doing AMAZING!!!! It was 1ft tall and now its 3 1/2 ft. Tall. I'll try to figure out how to send you a picture 💞💞💞

There is also a wax ivy plant that I didn’t know exsisted! I bought it and i reminds me of a hoya that was mixed with an ivy it’s super easy the plant will twirl around itself and when it needs water it will become super floppy
Great selection x
If you like ivy but find it difficult I would suggest Wax vine ‘Senecio macroglossus’. I’ve a green wax vine and want a variegated too.
Great! Wish I had all 15! Hope you're feeling better young lady.
Harli! I would love to see you try out Semi hydro on some of your plants and hear your take and experiences with it. It’s growing in popularity but not much info on it with houseplants.

Ivy was actually one of my first plants and it’s done wonderfully surprisingly ! One of my easiest some how lol
I can't seem to keep ivy either. I don't understand how people say it's easy. I've had the cissus for many years and love it.
You are not alone. I to struggle with ivys. Because of that I don't even bother to keep them.
Hi and thanks,
Do you have a list of these plants you've shown us here for those of us who aren't familiar with some of the names?
Love your care details.
Did you repot these right away?
Thanks.
Hey! Is there any way you could do a video about how you got your avocado plants to grow..? Love you so much!
Agreed!! Inquiring minds want to know. I've never tried it but I'd like to.
Thanks for this video, I like all your plants an videos.
Your hair looks so good!
Sansevieria are definitely one of the easiest plants to keep from my experience!
My absolute favorite plants are snake plants! I especially love the whalefin and cylindrica varieties! They’re so easy and I water them maaaaybe once a month
I want a whale fin so badly! I can't believe I forgot to mention sansevieria in this video!
it's amazing the monstera is easy to care for bc it looks so high maintenance right.💚
Ivy screwed with my mind. Started balding like an old man immediately when I brought it home. Chucked it outside for the summer and pretty much waiting for it to die in its nursery pot.

I love your T-shirt!!!
From what I know keeping the soil too moist will lead to root rot too ://
I have gotten root rot from moist soul for long periods of time
I wish I could fall sick so I can call out and watch all your videos 😅
Hi Harlingen. Can you please talk about how to identify when the Peperomia needs water? Perhaps a video or pictures of the plant when the show sign of needing water 🙏🏻. I'm struggling with both the Philodendron (mine is a Scandens though) and the Peperomia.
Very informative video for beginners 👌👍😍💙💚
It’s funny you complained of peperomias because those are the plants that seem to do the best for me. I am struggling with the elephant bush/miniature sage. It’s scientific name is portulacara afra. Half the leaves are yellowing and the other half are drying out. I’d love some feedback on what to do to make it happy and healthy again if anyone has any tips.
Snake plants are easy plants too!
But my favorite would be the ZZ 😍😍
I was thinking of diffenbachia (dumb cane), croton and euphorbia trigona.
One of my first plants was a Big Shot Ivy that i got from a home depot in like January, middle of winter. Now, here in June I swear its grown like 2 feet
Thanks for this it really helps
Can you do a video on how to save plants that have moldy soil?
Harli you are absolutely correct on the ivy. I will never buy ivy again.
Harly we miss you .. I hope that my plants will be like your healthy plants
Thank you harly for this full informative video .. love your shinning eyes 🌹🌹🌺🌿❤️
I keep peperomias in my no light bathroom, they are doing great.
WHAT? That's amazing. Do you leave the light on for them?
Where did you get your shirt???? its amazing!!!!!
I've got to get the Cissus!!
It’s a fun one to have! 😊
Any tips on bromeliad care?
My green ( burgundy) rubber plant does NOTHING but drop leaf when i look at it 😑....... his variegated cousins doing excellent in my care
Sameeeee. I've now put him closer to the window for some bright indirect light. He's dropping leaves less frequently, but still dropping. Lol
Hello harli, i like ur vedioes.....pls do a vedio on how to propagate a monstera
Great video and i agree with your pics though i still dont have all pf them. I am working on my collwction
Thank you much for the info!
