@ China is doing more by tree planting and limiting the emitting while USA quit the agreement. Your comment that it pollutes more than all other nations is subjective. Your comment itself is subjective and I literally didn't see any stats you provide here that support your objectiveness which make you sounded neutral while assuming it. They are putting effort in throughout the years responding to the summit and it's own people. The argument of this video is that benefits comes with responsibility, and the inequality created by industrialization is arguably not the reason to one line cut the global emissions. China is doing a lot in my observation. Definitely not enough but indeed more than a lot other nations. China limits lifestyle emissions, enforce trash separation and recycling. Stopped importing electrical and other trash, planting impressive amount of trees, putting serious amount of restrictions to pollutive manufacture, and in major cities, no more open air BBQ, no more 2.0 and more engines for family uses. China also have environmental enforcement in every cities, and have actual law to prevent individual or enterprises to over emit and dump. In China, cutting trees without permission is a crime. Chinese people also stopped burning for warmth in major cities and this trend is tremendously expanded over the past decade as cities opt to natural gas warming supplied from powerplants instead of burning coal by community or individual families. Over the past fifty years, it built one after another nuclear powerplants and remodeled or replaced tons of thermal powerplants. China has largest inland power project in the world which it started while it is really poor because it realized burning coal is not the solution and is not sufficient for industrial needs. Near Beijing, China is building xiong an, a model city that eliminate cars and makes people sufficient in community and rely more on public transportation. If it successes the Chinese cities are going after this model, which increases human interaction and reduces commute in the same time. Quit your double standard and look for facts. If we eat less beef and stop luxurious fireplace and high emission cars, we can contribute. China needs to do more, but the established world also need to move in. Doing this and contribute together, so we can survive.

«I love that this video is not biased. Most other channels blame developing countries like China [...]» They still missed something big: **accounting for imports/exports** of greenhouse gas emissions per capita. A.K.A. carbon footprint. So for example the figures attribute the emissions for making EU & US electronics and goods mostly to Asian people.[1] Rich countries are outsourcing emissions to other countries and the video misses that.[2] It changes + or - a few tons of CO2 for many countries and part of the ranking changes. Source: Wikipedia "List of countries by carbon dioxide emissions per capita" and compare section "Production-based emissions" for 2015 with "'Consumption-based emissions" for 2016. China goes from 7.7t/person to 6.27t, rich countries gain 1 or a few tons depending on if they have a manufacturing or fossil industry that exports. A dramatic example is Belgium going from 9.2t to 15.61t. Likely due to not having much industry. Check out the above source for more. Caveat: that's still not complete, it's not actually the carbon footprint, it's CO2 only and not all greenhouse gases (so it misses a lot of agriculture impact and all leaks from gas industry) so all the figures should be a bit higher and countries ranking should again change due to difference in food diets (% of animal products) and again upping the rich countries. Anyone knows where to find such data? To solve that last big bias. And is anything else big missing? [1] a laptop is like 0.5 ton! [2] almost a third of the carbon footprint of someone in France are goods. And more than half is imported. source: course 8 (Carbon accounting) at École des Mines 2019 by JM Jancovici
Developed countries are still polluting the environment today, they have moved polluting factories to developing countries,They stopped polluting their own country, but didn't stop polluting the world now, It is hypocritical for them to cheat on environmental protection

There has been some slight cooling over the past century, but I don't think that we can really do much to reverse the milanchovitch cycles. The title "who's to blame" perplexes me.
Also, we should not forget that nations like Germany reduced their carbon footprint by having their products produced in China because it was cheaper and environmental restrictions were less strict. So we put our debts in their hands and then blame then for the emissions. :-/

Way to devalue all the impacts the US has had with a blanket statement. Developed countries should be the ones leading the way, and they can but they choose not to. The clothing, shoes, laptop etc factories in China are made by US companies and their suppliers chosen by US companies. Yes, China can place a reform to stop it but they're not in a position to. Why? Take India for example, now tell them to implement green reforms while most of their population is in poverty, does it make sense to you? What developed countries can do is to help develop the infrastructure in these countries to lower the costs of adopting such technology for them or to incentivize social entrepreneurship while working out an agreement for the developing country. @@omatofi No, you are right. The so called 'market solution' is not a solution at all because the current rules created that result in the first place. That way, established companies will have to change their practices - which is much faster, easier and more reliable than building new companies from the ground up, only to compete in an unfair environment. The United States is always blamed for being one of the worst in terms of pollution, despite being one of the biggest advocates of clean energy. The entire reason we pulled out of the Paris Climate Accord is because we aren't going to be the only ones to sacrifice our economy so everybody else can feel good about themselves. The EU and friends didn't give a damn about the agreement. Yes, before anyone had a clue about climate change, the US polluted more than anyone else. Such a shame they weren't psychic. Now stop bringing up the past. No, we can't begin today. The idea that we can just stop using fossil fuels is ridiculous. Considering everyone's heavy reliance on them in daily life, the cost to replace *every single thing* that uses fossil fuels, the jobs that would be lost, and the horrible effects on the economy would be more than enough to bring America to its knees. Nuclear fusion is the future and without it were never gonna stop any of this
Question 5/3: Does any of these countries really care about climate change or do they just keep bringing it up just to look responsible and important? Are they willing to give up an easy and cheap way of energy production to completely reform their power grid for the planet, or do they care more about profit?
"Countries" aren't monolithic entities. They're composed of millions of individuals and thousands of politicians and people in power. Some of them care about climate change, some don't. Those of us with the privilege of living in democratic societies have to do everything we can to campaign, vote, and put pressure on the people chosen to represent us however we can. It's an uphill battle and, believe me, I know things look bleak. But we have to try. It's either that or guaranteed oblivion.

Yeah and the fact that the average American emits nearly twice as much as the average European is ridiculous. They emit nearly THREE times as much as the average Italian. Americans must be insanely wasteful if they manage to emit 3 times as much as us and we already drive everywhere and don't put _that_ much thought into it. I remember reading in the comments of another video that it's common for people who have second homes in places like Florida to leave the AC/heat on even when they're not there, because otherwise their poorly built houses literally rot from the moisture building up. @@demoniack81 Its absurd and negligent to a good portion of Americans as well... Its sorta the majority, but when you dive into specific policies, most end up split by party. And while the USA is more of a Democracy than China, its a pretty poor one, so it doesn't respond to it's citizens views very well. When you see the "Political Polarization" hyped news articles about the USA, Climate Change action is a dominant reason for that polarization. The odd part is that the countries making that arguments (China, India, etc) are also countries where energy-efficient industries are flourishing. It is 100% everyone’s responsibility to tackle climate change, also I think we have left out an important factor: developed countries often base factories in developing countries. Apple for example, produces its raw material in China and does the “assembling” in the US. This means the “producing” part which generate the most CO2 would be done offshore. You can see the proof of that when general production is decreased in China due to the COVID19 outbreak, CO2 emission decreased, which is followed by our lack of access to consumer products in developed nations. The problem here is not which country is responsible, we’re all interconnected, people of the same race moving forward together as a species. Empty politics generate friction that leads to conflict, it starts issues rather than solving them. I love this video and I hope more people are being educated by this, otherwise humanity would be headed down a terribly dark path of self destruction.
This. All those 'Made in Germany' or 'Made in France' etiquetes are false. Almost all of those were made in eg. China or Vietnam and just assembled in developed countries for the etiquete.
Exactly, the problem with so many issues in the world today is the failure to look at things beyond the country level and refusing to admit that things are interconnected. Climate change is a great example, another could be poverty in developing countries. Countries need to come together to tackle these problems and its up to the public to encourage and support this as we know politicians main concern is getting elected
You can’t ignore why those companies make product in other countries. Money. It’s cheaper to build goods in those places because the government in the USA has destroyed manufacturing because of over regulation and a weakening dollar. Companies want to make money just like governments want more power.
People love to blame the leaders of their countries for not doing more, but I would imagine that any leader who actually did as much as they should to combat climate change, would be voted out in favor of somebody who did less. The issue is that people are selfish, and the change needed to combat climate change also lowers quality of life. So the average voter is not going to vote for a person who promises to deliver on climate goals, because it will mean higher costs of living and in general a lower quality of life. The fact that people also like to blame leaders is another thing which makes it easy to shift responsibility away from oneself. In any democracy, it is the voters who decide the leaders, so in the end, they bear the responsibility of who makes the decisions.

Please do a video on what types of “cleaner” energy have the most promise, such as nuclear, wind, solar, etc, and how they compare. Maybe even some on the horizon possibilities.
Thank you! Nuclear will be a large part of the mix when we decide to do something. Germany's CO2 numbers went up went they closed their nuclear plants. France is a much better player with its nuclear power which it sells a LOT of to Germany.
People are scared shirtless of nuclear when they should be scared shirtless of pumping out billions of tons of toxins into the atmosphere that will cause them to starve to death/drown/die of heat related diseases. Fear is why we can't have progress. Fear of nuclear, fear of cost, fear of being blamed, and fear of not getting enough money from the fossil fuel industry to get re-elected
Fusion is probably the best energy in terms of cleanliness/energy generated. Like, sure, wind, water and solar are all great, but they are very inefficient compared to the amount of space they take. Nuclear is nice, but you've got to do something with the radioactive waste. Fusion produces a 1000th of a modern nuclear reactor's waste, while having much more energy output. The only problem is, we didn't nail the technology quite yet, and that it requires enormous amounts of energy to start
Fusion would be a great source of energy but currently, the only example of fusion releasing more energy than it uses up is in stars. Stars use the high pressure generated from their own gravitational force to fuse elements, so if the same conditions could be replicated on Earth, fusion would probably be better for the environment than renewables such as solar or wind.
很好的视频,节能减排是每个人和国家都应该认真对待的事情,大家都做的不好,但都要去努力做好 Very good video, energy saving and emission reduction is something that everyone and the country should take seriously, everyone is not doing well, but we all have to work hard to do well
The response by many to COVID-19 has convinced me that there is absolutely no chance we will do the right thing about climate change. If solving the climate change problem was as simple as every single person in the world agreeing to press a single button just once in their life, some people would still refuse to do it.
Not only this but the resultant infighting, insanity, volatile hysteria, rioting, buying out all the toilet paper for no fucking reason and then throwing it on the ground during riots only months later... etc
@@jowysw For many people the button "no CO2 emissions" means starvation and death. Pre industrial societies lived under a constant threat of famine. Just think about this, if freedom doesn't mean anything to you.
Loved the ways you guys make us "travel" through the data like that. Seriously a complex topic explained very quickly and efficiently. All my support to you :D
The video forgot a key point : China's emissions are also linked to the fact that they're the factory of the world, not only because they have a lot of people emitting a lot. When an European by a Chinese TV, the emission "cost" is attributed to China because they made it. It also apply when they buy a Chinese-made Solar Panel. If everyone consumed only things made in their own countries (which seems to be what the video implies), the % between countries would be way different, but that's not the case at all. (And that would reduce transporting emissions.) [People are arguing in the comments, but my point is not "we should do this way or that way, this is a solution.". I was pointing out that the video arguing "all individuals from a certain country emit a certain way, multiply by number of people you get total, then this country X and Y" lack a bit of context and nuance, and /why/ some countries are doing this. I'm only saying that the video could have been more clear and go more in depth about why these numbers are there and how our world runs, and not just say "America is 50, China is 60" and using numbers that are not that comparable.] (Edit : spelling and clarity)
If we eradicate the sweatshop children and most of their population, we immediately improve the worlds health. A dozen nukes should do it and once we take out that superpower, there would be no country who would dare retaliate against the U.S.
I can just imagine a zoom meeting between world leaders like this: 'So that's why we need to end pollution' 'yes' 'yes' 'so whose gonna do it?' *Half of the world disconnects*
Ian Mubangizi, not true it hurt pretty much all countries in different ways. Rising sea levels, temperature, low resources, political problems etc. Also it says here ( *7:26* ) that the “developing countries will be hit the hardest” and then gives a short list of more examples.
@@ianmubangizi6721 i guess you don't watch the video, huh. Western countries pollute way more than developing countries per person as they are already rich now (wealth=pollution). The past century was marked by those western countries polluting the world first which make the total contribution of their pollutions higher than china. China emits the most pollution as they are starting to become richer and have way more people than all western countries combined. So, you are a hypocrite for attacking china as even today most of the pollution in china is caused by the outsourced pollutions of your western countries corporations to make their products cheap which is mostly sold to western consumers.
As a civilization we are ultimately all responsible for "Climate Change" as for who should be fixing it the short answer is all of us. So here is the legacy problem that we face, while we have the U.N. who simply are no longer fit for purpose, the issue will just be a case of "kicking the can further down the road" Which is perhaps sadly what we have been doing for decades. So what happens now. Well those in authority and positions of power will simply continue to duck their responsibility and what we end up with is a final showdown between Mother Nature and her inexhaustible power to teach us, yes us the whole of mankind a lesson well deserved. In the past decade we have seen one natural disaster after another and every affected Country has had to pick up the bill for the cost of those disasters. As we refuse not to learn from these past lessons, what becomes blatantly clear is that the rising costs will continue, and eventually we run out of money to fix this. The result is very simple, 1. Loss of life, across the globe. 2. Further mass migration. 3. Atrocities which sadly go hand in hand when we find ourselves in this predicament. 4. Economies crash and burning or worse on slow burn till, they financial meltdown becomes global. 5. N.W.O. finally comes to the rescue, but is it the rescue that any of us think it is. 6. We are neck deep in fire-fighting all natural disasters and resources finally reach breaking point. 7. Poly-Pandemics take centre stage, as we once again find ourselves fighting on a front we never planned for. 8. Our new enemy becomes the Sun, and it's not quite what we envisaged. i) Skin cancer is soon to take the number one spot. ii) Famine returns to our radar as food production is impacted by global warming. iii) C.M.E.'s, Solar Storms, create for us a whole new set of health problems. Which sadly again no one saw coming which is the Electro Magnetic Field, begins to affect the minds of humans because we are extremely sensitive to this new exposure, which we will see, happen first in the Southern Hemisphere before the Northern Hemisphere is affected. There is a scientific argument that if there was a Polar Shift then you guessed it the tables would be turned and we would then be exposed to this being a combination of Radiation from the Sun, and the subtle E.M.F waves that will penetrate through the expose ozone layer and bring a whole new threat. 9. Oceans and Seas temperature rise increased due to tectonic plates, moving and underwater volcanoes adding heat from beneath the seas and oceans. 10. Permafrost co4 fuels global warming, and releases us to new threats that we didn't allow for. The list is endless, I am giving you just a few, to ponder over.
the climate is going to warm up regardless of what humans do, it's the endless cycle of the earth between ice ages and warm periods. the last ice age ended fairly recently, so the earth is supposed to be warming up to a degree
Let's say we're on a ship that's slowly letting in water. Saying "I won't fix the leak because I didn't make the hole" will just ultimately lead to everyone drowning.

Question 5/3: Does any of these countries really care about climate change or do they just keep bringing it up just to look responsible and important? Are they willing to give up an easy and cheap way of energy production to completely reform their power grid for the planet, or do they care more about profit?
Well I know that the US doesn't care. Other countries somewhat care

American tradition: I am sorry for this, but I do nothing to compensate you
Yeah and the fact that the average American emits nearly twice as much as the average European is ridiculous.

Great Point 👍

This episode is really easy to understand
The video forgot a key point : China's emissions are also linked to the fact that they're the factory of the world, not only because they have a lot of people emitting a lot.
When an European by a Chinese TV, the emission "cost" is attributed to China because they made it. It also apply when they buy a Chinese-made Solar Panel.
If everyone consumed only things made in their own countries (which seems to be what the video implies), the % between countries would be way different, but that's not the case at all. (And that would reduce transporting emissions.)
[People are arguing in the comments, but my point is not "we should do this way or that way, this is a solution.".
I was pointing out that the video arguing "all individuals from a certain country emit a certain way, multiply by number of people you get total, then this country X and Y" lack a bit of context and nuance, and /why/ some countries are doing this. I'm only saying that the video could have been more clear and go more in depth about why these numbers are there and how our world runs, and not just say "America is 50, China is 60" and using numbers that are not that comparable.]
(Edit : spelling and clarity)
That is exactly what I thought about the climate change issue.
If we eradicate the sweatshop children and most of their population, we immediately improve the worlds health. A dozen nukes should do it and once we take out that superpower, there would be no country who would dare retaliate against the U.S.

The result is very simple,

As a chinese, and also be the citzen of the major character in this video--china--i must say the video is great,it telling us truth without prejudice, and pointout the critcal element of climant promble that we faceing now.
Since china become the bigest industrial country in the world, there is no reason that china to aviod it's responsibility to the climate change. And that has been the common sense throughout the china, and the "Grenn rule" also enshrine in our civil law as the rule of law, which encourage every equal citzen reduce the carboon emission as they can.
