The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.

For me, the 2015-16 San Antonio Spurs deserve a minimum of honorable mention. They had Duncan, Parker and Ginobili (as usual), Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge, Andre Miller, David West and Kevin Martin. The next season they add Pau Gasol and David Lee, but Duncan retired in the 2016 season and West went to Oakland :(.

@@Davivd2 Not true. Cuttino Mobley was a very good player that averaged over 20ppg one year and 16ppg for his career. Antoine Carr and Eddie Johnson were also very good players in their primes. EJ averaged 20ppg three times and Carr did it once. Pippen was also on that team.

As an honorable mention, or maybe a team that could crack this list's top ten would be in my opinion the 1999-2000 Portland Trailblazers:
Arvydas Sabonis, Rasheed Wallace, Scottie Pippen, Steve Smith, Damon Stoudamire with a bench having Detlef Schrempf, Jermaine O'Neal, Stacey Augmon and Bonzi Wells.

Definitely worthy of an honorable mention! I also like the 2001 roster. No Jermaine O'Neal but add Rod Strickland and Shawn Kemp.

A video idea I'd like to see is the "perfect nba what if"
Like if Jordan didn't retire the first time the bulls win 8 straight. If shaq and kobe held it together they would have 4peated. If kobe and lebron met in the finals. If cp3 was traded to kobes lakers, then the heat v lakers finals would have been gold. If the warriors were able to complete the perfect 73-9 season with a championship. If the kd warriors would have 3peated....

Parish avg 17-10 that Final series (which in his defense is his regular season too).

I'm also throwing in late 90's Jazz. I think it was 98 when they had Danny Manning and Tom Chambers. Man, those 2 guys on their squad, before injuries. Nice.
The '02-'03 Spurs would be pretty vicious - a lineup of Tony Parker, a mix-and-match of prime Ginobili and Steve Smith at shooting guard, Stephen Jackson and Bruce Bowen at SF, Duncan manning the PF spot, and a peak athletic freak version of David Robinson with Kevin Willis backing them up.
I instantly thought of the 08 Suns, and still think they could edge out a couple of the teams you picked. Love seeing this kind of for fun content.

62-63 Celtics. Last year of Cousy's NBA career, first year of Havlicek's. Cousy / Sam Jones / Havlicek / Heinsohn / Russell starting, with Ramsey, K. C. Jones and Lovellette coming off the bench, all in their respective primes, is a scary thought.

I think you're underestimating the 21-23 Lakers. Two MVPs with Westbrook and LeBron, three All NBA 1st Team players with Catmelo, AD, and DeAndre Jordon, two All-Stars in Thomas and Rondo, and quality role players in Austin Reaves, Malik Monk, Avery Bradley and Trevor Ariza. This team has more deapth than probably any other team on this list.
Sure, their chemistry would be atrocious, but who cares about that?

I just realized who the hell did he have replacing Alonzo mourning as PF? I get it, Shaq replaced him at center, but there's no way any other player he named on the heat would start over a prime AM, so he'd just start a PF.🤔

Very interesting exercise. I would have the '85-'86 Celtics and '71-'72 Lakers higher on the list. That Celtics team with a young and healthy Bill Walton would be unbelievable, and that Lakers squad with a younger Baylor, Chamberlain and West would be hard for anybody to top. It also would be interesting to see a much younger Oscar Robertson teamed with Lew Alcindor/Kareem in his prime. And finally, a young Robert Parish would indeed lift that Bulls team to even greater heights.

You ever gonna do a top 10 list for the best role players ever? I think it'd be interesting to see your thoughts on that subject. Something we never get to see a top 10 list of.
Johnny, I believe you should do the 2K grind. Yes it is a saturated market but no one thinks like you do compared to everyone else in this content world to see your insight and how you would change things be very helpful and honestly make a difference and could lead to successful coaches in the future by learning from all these other 2K leagues.
I like seeing how wrong 2k gets it. Like when you draft a player that the computer creates who is rated 72 and he's a monster off of the bench, but Joe Dumars is rated 85. averaging 6 points and one steal as a starter, and shooting 15 percent from 3.

The problem with "best teams," whether its building one from scratch or this "if they were in their prime" is that each player in their prime plays differently than they did when on that team out of their prime. Do you really think you can have so many ball dominant players on one team? In reality, no. Big players come with big personalities.

Loving your videos congrats on closing in on 200k. Do have to say though how is lakers 21/22 so low down I can understand from a fit perspective but talent wise they are miles ahead think they should be roughly on par with the 17/18 Cavaliers and if the fit were to work I think they could be as high as the 85-86 76ERS

Every team I thought of when I saw this video made your list! The Chicago Bulls with Robert Parrish were the first team I thought of then the 2003-2004 Lakers.
My head went straight to those 95-96 bull team. Having a legit center in Parrish would be insane

When I first saw the 21-22 Lakers in this I thought "what are they doing in this list". When I saw the names that were on that team I changed it to "why are they ranked so low". Unbelievable what players were on that team and how little they made of it, albeit many of them not in their prime.

Interesting video but a lot of times, players appear washed because they have to take on reduced roles for the benefit of the team, and a lot of these teams would implode if everyone was in their prime because of player ego. For example, people forget how good westbrook was in dc right before he joined the lakers

What are the teams I think deserve a mention is the 2012 and 13 New York Knicks. Where they would have a prime Jason Kidd, Amar'e Stoudemire, Rasheed Wallace Marcus Camby, and Kenyon Martin
I'd throw in one of the 60's Celtics Teams just to be complete. Either the 8 HOFs on the 66-67 version, or the 9 HOFs on the 62-63 team with 3 top 75 players.
I would have also mentioned Scott Wedman in his all-star days in the 85-86 Celtics.
I would love a video on great players that got a ring only after their prime and when they were a role player
I quite disagree with the Bulls at #1, I think other teams you listed would be more talented and deeper. This also goes to show how the Bulls actually won with great chemistry and execution, rather than sheer talent.
Fun list and great work though, I would have overlooked the '99 Lakers or the '86 Sixers easily!
PS. record for most appearances I believe goes to Shaq!
PPS. Wilt's prime year I'd say is '66-67 MVP season, by then he was more mature, a better defender, more unselfish and a great passer, rather than the scoring machine of '62

I think the 02-03 Spurs could be a scary team too. Just thinking about David Robinson and Tim Duncan both in their prime, I mean Robinson was good when Duncan came in but imagine MVP Admiral with MVP Duncan. Then of course you'd have Parker and Manu. Kevin Willis, Stephen Jackson and Steve Smith could each be good for around 20 a game. You'd have a prime Bruce Bowen locking people down. Hell they already won the title with quite a few of those guys past their primes, or before their primes, imagine if they were in their primes.

I disagree about Rodman. In his prime he was statistically better, but he was also more normal. Dennis the menace from his later years is where he really caused problems for others. He gave more troubles to Shaq with his mind games than defence.
2015 2016 spurs would be crazy with the likes of Parker, Manu, Kawhi, Aldridge and Duncan. Off the bench you'd have Kevin Martin, David West and Andre miller in their prime

Were the 1990-91 Detroit Pistons players actually old and past their prime ? My idea for movie :)
I'd say it's more about mileage than age. They lost Mahorn to expansion, and in their very physical playstyle, Mahorn was one of the top two guys both dishing and taking abuse. That put even more burden on Laimbeer, who had been in the league over a decade and was definitely on his downswing.
Isiah's best years were behind him, and he lost a lot of the '91 season to wrist injury/surgery. (probably the single most overlooked factor of that season. They were keeping up with the Bulls both in the standings and in their head-to-head matchups before Isiah started missing time. Do they beat the Bulls if he stays healthy? I don't know, but it's certainly a more competitive series).
Dumars was arguably just entering his prime, production-wise, and Rodman would really start peaking the following year (his '91 was his best year up to that point, and the first full season where he was no longer a role player, but he would immediately eclipse it).

Jonny you should do this exact same thing but with ALL TIME TEAMS, meaning the best players to ever play for the franchise on one team, all in their PRIME. For example the all time bulls would have prime rose, Jordan, pippen, Rodman, Gilmore….The all time lakers would have prime magic, Kobe, Shaq, west, Baylor, Kareem, lebron and others all on one roster. Please consider it Jonny that would be INSANE!!

The prime Magic could cause some upsets - Penny, TMac, Hill, Wilkins, Kemp, Ewing, Shaq and Dwight.
I'd like a simulation of these teams. I think I have a 2knba game from my psplus. It'd be nice for full videos and maybe shorts for highlights of the game.
Facts on #1 and you're right about da bulls bc a prime Ron harper, Rodman and Parish would only elevate MJ and Pippen. That team could score with anyone and play defense better than anyone. Though one team you forgot to mention would be Dream, Pippen and Barkley... they'd cause problems lol
I would argue that for the 71-72 Lakers, I'd rather have 67 wilt rather than 62. He was still more than capable of dropping huge numbers, but he was far more team oriented in 67, played better defense (from the admittedly limited footage I've managed to see throughout the years, in 62 he was more akin to a supercharged Hassan Whiteside, whereas later, he was still a great shot blocker, but played more disciplined, smarter, and better positioning wise on that end). He was obviously far more efficient, and his passing was perhaps not necessarily "better" as he always had the chops, but definitely more willing.
I love your list. Warriors should be number 1, Chicago 2, and I think Hakeem's Houston team needs to be on the list somewhere.

Pau not being mentioned for 13 was a little jarring. The 12 Bulls, 20 Rockets pre-Capela trade and 24 Bucks should've got a mention in my book as well.
