    Newcastle could be one of the best, but car parking charges can be over twice of other airports, even though it's got a train station, public transport from Carlisle can be bad even if your catching a dinner time flight or making sure you land before 19:30 to catch the last train to Carlisle, make car parking cheaper and i may start using the airport.

    Security is always pretty efficient and not too stressful. I think the airport desperately needs more destinations, like Budapest, Nice, Madrid and a US or candian route.

    Even with some arrivals difficulties, I would still say it was one of the best, especially in the category it was awarded in (under 5mill anual pax). It has a good selection for an airport its size of food, shops, etc. And I have never seen security time over 2 mins with the new scanners! Great Vid ❤

      It actually won not just the under 5 million category (for the second year in a row), but also was the overall winner.

    It’s a very expensive airport to fly from. They literally rip you off to be dropped off, car parking is very expensive. Certainly not a fan of my local airport. In fact I think they are a disgrace .

    @plld6969 3 дня назад +1

    Security (now) at Ncle is the best I have ever experienced - so much so it almost makes flying pleasurable again. There are two main areas where it falls down. Firstly, unless you're prepared to pay money (for a restaurant seat or lounge) the 'public' seating is limited, not terribly comfortable and has no hint of a view. Secondly, unless you like sunshine/Med destinations, the choices of route are limited.

    How can this airport be the best in the world when the authorities rip off their visitors at every opportunity, cheaper flights are available anywhere else, the cost of a flight is at least £100 more than elsewhere, this is because the five councils who have shares in the airport want their cut, this equates to around £20 per council per flyer, then there is the car park a quick drop off will cost minimum £5. So for me that is a bad start to vote this airport to be the best.

    NCL is a good airport and one I've used many many times, but best in the World? No chance.
    At best it's a good regional international airport with a good range of flights.
    Another downside is it's expensive!
    Parking especially, and if you compare flight costs from say EDI there's quite a difference in price.
    As for the new scanners, great, but UK Government won't allow them to be used to their capacity e.g. detection of liquids!
    There's many better airports than NCL I'm afraid.

    One of the most expensive airports in the UK to fly from. It also lacks a depth of routes. One thing not mentioned, at peak periods the waiting areas can be overcrowded and lacking seating.

He said he heard a foreign crew call it the B and S airport and he had thought he had said something else so pulled him up to defend his local airport. If I travel with work I'm in business but if I'm leisure I'm normally down the back. In the last 2 years it's never taken me more than 20mins to get from the car park to airside, so probably one of the better airports for efficiency at security. The one downside I find is lack of seating in the departures area unless you want to sit in a bar or restaurant. There's a few as you come out of Duty Free but I normally find myself sitting on the stools behind Burger King where it's a bit quieter.

    • @charlesontravels
      @charlesontravels  6 дней назад +1

      That’s a really good point, there is very little seating outside of the bars/cafes/restaurants/lounges, a lot less than most airports have in public spaces.

  • @safctilidie

    Newcastle you are quite limited in terms of destinations still. I can see it out of my bathroom so if I fancy heading somewhere in Europe it is pretty convenient. The Aspire lounge looks pretty limited and the food that you pay for in the main departure lounge is pretty good for what you pay.

  • @alexbremner8361
    @alexbremner8361 5 дней назад +1

    NCL is a fantastic regional airport that should have better connectivity to European hubs, the Airport would benefit from MAD and MUC. I use the airport on a weekly basis and find the check in and security portion mind blowingly easy, airside could be a little better but has vastly improved recently.

  • @Matty12333

    I think longer runway is needed so it can cater for A380. More jet bridges so people don't get wet and cold, more often than not here in Newcastle

    Love humberside. So so small, everything compact so no wondering about your flight as you see the tarmac from security lane pretty much. Arrivals always a breeze with just 3 luggage belts and again very short walk from plane to car park.

  • @apoliticalmind8587
    @apoliticalmind8587 6 дней назад +2

    It’s a decent airport. There is rarely congestion getting in and the Metro to the city centre is frequently and convenient (even if they still don’t take contactless).
    The Aspire lounge could be good. I’ve travelled through about 20 times this year and they never changed the super-limited menu.
    The runway is too short. This limits destinations - anything much further than Dubai and you will have to offload passengers. Cape Verde flights regularly stop for fuel in Tenerife because of the short runway. A runway extension will be required for more routes.
    There is no 24 hour air traffic control - they close the airport for 30 minute periods through the night and aircraft are delayed or hold south of the airport.
    The car parking is too expensive and the drop off charge is egregiously expensive. I suppose all airports are similar.
    The airbridges are very unreliable. It is pretty much always stairs. Only the stand Emirates use seems to get any maintenance!
    Overall, it’s good. Most people very friendly and with a growing list of destinations.
    I think the marketing of Best Airport in the world was disingenuous and demeans what is a perfectly reasonable airport. Everyone will be disappointed when they actually get there!

    This has to be the dearest one in the UK with the American company and the councils who own it absolutely mercenary in their attitude which is purely profit ,profit ,profit.
    My advice to anyone is always look elsewhere you wil be surprised how much cheaper it can be

    Shame Newcastle focuses on the parts where they can make money (for obvious reasons). But the Domestic and International arrivals experience is absolutely terrible. But by that time they've had your money and your just glad to be home. Despite the upto 1hr wait for your bags.

  • @jameskole3584
    @jameskole3584 6 дней назад

    It's no comparison to somewhere like Singapore - don't think many European regional or major hubs get close, but it's a very solid airport and never had a bad experience, which can't be said of Heathrow or Manchester. The smaller size has its benefits and disadvantages. It makes it simple to navigate and quick to get from place to another, but it is probably a factor in the arrivals process being slow.
    Sometimes you can get to baggage reclaim faster than it is physically possible to unload the plane and send the bags onto the belts - like the domestic BA flights where you don't have to go through passport control and get to the baggage reclaim in as little as 5 minutes - they might not have even finished unloading the bags at that point.
    Infrasture issues like tempermental belts probably mean they probably need a similar upgrade to the security process. Hopefully they have that on their radar.
    Not a massive amount of facilities and shops, but at airports that usually means luxury shops. Unless you plan on spending in those kinds of places, unlikely to be anything you are missing out on.

I have flown from Newcastle and found it pretty underwhelming- the gate areas are dated and a lot of bussing to remote stands is required which is always a hassle. If your flight gets cancelled while you are waiting at the Gate you are taken back to the departure hall to wait for airline to sort out what happens next. Hardly any seats so passengers of all ages have to stand there for hours as happened to my family and myself before we were shipped out to hotels. It was too hot as well. I've been flying out of Newcastle since the late 70s and it is safe to say I love aviation. But I can't get my head around why people rave about the Airport. The routes are really poor and from October to March it's borderline embarrassing, some afternoons after 2pm there's only 10 flights to 6 or 7 destinations and maybe 1 or 2 of those to the continent. During the summer it's like they are surprised when more than one aircraft turns up, it can take an hour and a half from landing to getting out and into your car. And the car parking charges are a disgrace, apart from that it's a canny airport 😉

When there's 20 odd bags circling on the carousel it adds minutes of wait time for every rotation - GRR!
