Yup, Eric Hollaway (Mr. Red Shirt) is what they call a true oktavist. The shocker for me was Danny Brevik, the guy singing operatic style tenor in the background. What a stunning contrast and I love his voice (love them all, but I’m kind of a sucker for people who have the chops to sing actual opera).
I'm so happy you heard him lol. I find most don't hear him in the background, I didn't either at first because I was sooooo blown away😂. They just did an acapella version and it's PURE HELL ON EARTH❤
@ I love bass voices, but I heard Brev right off. That man can SING! I don’t even like country music, but he just dropped a bunch of shorts that are amazing, and his song Boots is awesome!
11:44 They guy that is signing the high notes isn’t actually the guy in the top right (Davide Dalmonte) its actually they guy in the bottom left David Brevik who is a great bass signer along with being able to opera sing the high notes for this cover like A4
He added something I didn't know this song needed! It took my 2nd listen to hear him but damn it if I don't hear him every single time now😂😂! They all did such an amazing job on this!
The guy who opened the song is Bobby Waters (Bobby Bass) and is one of the best known bass singers on tiktok and RUclips, and is a member of The Bass Gang. You guys should definitely cover some of their tracks because they're excellent! The big three acapella groups are Pentatonix. Voiceplay and Home Free, with The Bass Gang in fourth place and getting better all the time!
@@weaintraisedrightpodcast I have to agree 🤣 Also, the guy with the long beard is from a group from theaters and such. He's the one who is reaching the high and low notes.
This is an absolutely incredible video and I love the reaction. I actually take voice lessons with the guy in the bottom left at 11:55 of your video. He's amazing. They all sound beyond good (and human) in this video
Hahaha i loved this reaction, have you guys listened to the Wellermen's cover of Misty Mountains? It's absolutely bass filled. Amazing video, brought a huge smile to my face :)
Colours with a u is the English spelling, it is used here in Australia as well as in England. So it is spelt correctly as old English which would’ve been how this sea shanty was written it is correct. 😊
Have you ever listened to Ivan Rebroff singing Trinklieder (drinking songs)? He goes from high soprano to F1 no problem. And that without a microphone in full operatic resonance.
Eric Hollaway sings all his notes in chest voice. Geoff is great, but he has sub harmonics. Can you imagine if Eric can just learn how to do sub harmonics too?
You do know the difference between Geoff's and Eric's lowest chest note is only 1 semitone? Eric's lowest is F1 and Geoff's is is F#1 (on a good day, Geoff has hit F1 in full chest).
@@omayonize7539, even Eric has said, some days that F1 isn't in the cards. With Eric, he is one of the few out there that has more vocal weight than Geoff. With tessitura, Geoff and Eric are nearly the same - tessitura being the area of the voice where it is comfortable. In reality, both Geoff and Eric are both into chest-fry at G1, which is fine and quite common for bass singers. It really depends on the vowel sounds they are using if it's going to be 100% chest at the bottom of their ranges. Which, again, is perfectly normal. In reality, the ability to sing smooth with chest-fry on vowels and sound good is the sign of a good singer; a lot of singers will just go an octave higher to avoid certain vowel sounds... not Geoff and Eric, however. This is what makes bass singing so much harder: you either have to jump the octave up or learn to sing in smooth chest-fry with certain types of phonation... either method isn't easy.
@@johndeeregreen4592 Eric has done a C1 in chest voice in a couple videos and live streams, and he was able to project it. Geoff can get to F1, but only on very rare good days(he admits this), and he still can't project it the way Eric can project a C1.
The word "Colours" is actually spelled correct. It's the spelling of the word "colors" in the UK English vernacular. Remember, this was a sea shanty for sailors and pirates: songs for sailors, of which the English had a lot of, whether it meant resupplies, war support, or slavery to say the least. It's a very subtle change in language, but super indicative and telling of the times. At one point, all pilgrims who came to America had British accents. But at one point, America said "Fuck that, we doin our own thing." But Genuinely thanks for calling that out. Different cultures and eras are so interesting, ya know what I'm sayin?
Actually, it is the English spelling. So here in Australia and in England colours is spelt with a u. So yes old English which is what pirates would’ve historically used is spelt this way. But in modern day, we and England we still use u in the spelling. 😊
Gents, hate to nitpick but the deepest bass on YT these days is Tomi P (of the bass gang) who reaches F0 in his solo version of Hellfire...and notably reaches F6 in the same song. You NEED to check him out!
I am really questioning myself what you guys were on about with "He is trying to get the high notes" Wasn't the point of this the low deep bass voices?
"--the one who's digging the basement, under the basement, _under the basement."_ that is _such_ a description 😂
When the Black gentleman is soloing, and let's the note on "tones" just fall away, it makes me think of the endless depths of the ocean.

That contrast just points out the excellence of the bass harmony. It wouldn't be quite the same without that higher line.
This song will always give me goosbumps. Also, the guy singing the high note is actually the dude with the massive beard.

Bass singers “shiver me Timbers”. 😂
All of them are bone shakers.
That was thoroughly impressive. I'm an old school metal head and a gangsta rap lover, but this, just impressed the hell out of me.
A 20 kilowatt diesel generator in comparison with them squeaks like a mosquito.

Pretty sweet that he described the Black gentleman as the "guy in the red shirt with the glasses."
Guy at the top notes at the end was the guy with the big beard. As a tenor, I recognize what those notes do to your face😂
Hahaha i loved this reaction, have you guys listened to the Wellermen's cover of Misty Mountains? It's absolutely bass filled. Amazing video, brought a huge smile to my face :)
Not yet!
Everytime i hear this i just see Kratos in my mind. An Old Kratos.

This just blows me away❤❤❤❤
the high opera at the end wasn't the young kid, it was the guy on the bottom left, he is a classically trained opera singer
Fr saying Davide Dalmonte is doing professional opera is like saying Eric Holloway is a tenor
Voiceplay's hoist the colors is magical
True but I prefer this version.
Absolutely amazing reaction boys!! keep it up
They own it. Dang saying brought me to tears.
Eric Hollaway sings all his notes in chest voice. Geoff is great, but he has sub harmonics. Can you imagine if Eric can just learn how to do sub harmonics too?
I wonder if he would dip into a range that humans can't hear!
You do know the difference between Geoff's and Eric's lowest chest note is only 1 semitone? Eric's lowest is F1 and Geoff's is is F#1 (on a good day, Geoff has hit F1 in full chest).

You're not wrong!
2:07 Colors is American spelling, colours is British spelling.
For the high notes in the ending bit there, the guy on the top right actually isnt the one hitting em'
its the bottom left
You weren't ready for The Dragon Council
Is that Joe Onit? I love this dude's content on his channel!!
It is indeed
Now I know how the Boogie man's voice sounds 😵💫
Love the "clackers" reference.

@@AngelicScarrs old English eh? Interesting, learn something new everyday!! Thanks!!!
@AngelicScarrs also the Canadian spelling, probably New Zealand as well. The "colod" spelling used in America is the odd one out worldwide.
if you like these guys, they sing Far over the Misty Mountains with 16 other basses. check out the Wellermen
Hey AJ the guy at the end singing the top notes is the guy at bottom left. Watch it over you will see Bro. God bless.
I just watched four men get pregnant by listening to a song.
Alrighty then...
Sorry to say this, but the high note came from the gentleman with a long red beard. He has an incredible range.
The guy with the operatic voice is Dan Brevik (i think thats how you spell his last name) its the guy in the bottom left with the beard.
@bigbrev
Danny Bevik is the one with the long beard
yes, eric can go down to E1 no sub harmonics, that 4 string bass louest note
So can davide dalmonte lol

We will!
sorry AJ for the correction but the high singer is below left
Eric Holloway only uses chest voice only . He doesn't believe in vocal fry or subharmonics
He's uses chest-fry, don't be fooled; he doesn't have a very good understanding of technique... he just sings well and doesn't think about it.
The operatic tenor is not David it is big brev the guy with the really long beard he is classically trained
Can you please react to Hoist the colours by Malinda, Bobby Bass, lauren paley, and Colm Mcguinness and Drunken Sailor by Malinda and Bobby Bass

Thats black Kratos!
The bass singers🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I am really questioning myself what you guys were on about with "He is trying to get the high notes"

Yes, the point is the low notes, but one if them to hit those high harmonies was very impressive.
Well actually the lowest you've heard his name is Eric

We are going to eventually review their version. We've reviewed this song twice now so want to give it a break for a couple months.
