Alright y'all, what was your favorite moment from this one? Shouts to Bobby and this bassy pirate crew on an awesome cover -- bravo, gents!
Edit: I mentioned Bobby's C2s early in the video, but they are C#2s, given the key of F# minor
The last chorus is my favorite. Just those octaves! Really great reaction and analysis Peter!
@@royj.mattice Agreed! Thank you :]
Eric's slide down felt a little like misjudging the back side of a mogul while skiing at speed, "we're good, we're good, where's the ground!?! we're good again"
What was Eric's last note during his solo? I think he busted my earbuds. 😳
Hi Peter, would you please please do a reaction video of Voice Plays new cover song In The Hall Of The Mountain King. As you may know it was a classical symphony orchestra piece ( no words ). Wait till you see what Voice Play did with it. Please❤️
Wow! Thanks for the HUGE shoutout man! You were right, I am the only one singing baritone here. When Bobby first requested the crazy high notes at the end I wasn’t sure I could pull it off, but it ended up working out. I’m glad you liked it!
Thanks again,
-Big Brev
You nailed it man. That was so cool
At first, I missed it. Then, once he pointed it out, *HOSHIT* That is crazy harmonic dissonance!
My ears are grateful for your vocal range.
Sincerely,
A New Canadian Fan
Your part was freaking incredible. It popped out so much
@@nicdegrave3313 thank you so much for your kind words! It truly means a lot.
@brev no way anyone who follows you could ever miss your amazing voice... 😊
Eric produces the sound of continents grinding together.
That's a really good description
The Tectonic Notes
Eric's voice is really mind blowing, it's like a dragon that sings
"Oh Eric..." - the most accurate reaction XD
Aye thanks for the reaction.
I'm Nelson but i go by ebucs(artist name) btw most of us sang F#1s some subs and obviously eric chest. I think danny / snikel went for F2s at those drops but either way bobby made us do a take with F2s and one with F1s
You did a great job. You all did. The whole song gave me "dipped in icy waters" chills.
Only one comment? Well anyways fantastic job my brother
Well done dude🎉
Eric made Peter short circut
Now what would happen if you got Eric Holloway and Elliott Robinson in the same song? Other than structural damage to your foundation footing.
The earth would shatter
@@PeterBarber No. The Earth would not shatter. It would crumble to pieces like how it did in San Francisco.
Eric IS there
It would be a RADICALLY INSANELY MASSIVE BASS QUAKE
I just discovered Eric about a week ago, I've never heard of Elliott either so I'm looking forward to another RUclips rabbit hole here!
I would describe Eric's voice as a "stank" voice, because when he sings his bass, it makes me make a stank face in appreciation.
😂❤
As a 13 year old bass singer. It warms my heart that there is more people than I thought there was who sang bass. You never see bass singers as young as me but its fun
As a high soprano, it's INSANE to hear Eric H's voice. It's just mind boggling 🤯
Same here!
I’m a countertenor and hearing his voice had my eyes wide open 😮
thanks for the reaction man❤it means a lot for me!
Just visited your channel... Dude! Instasub! I love your bass!
Nice
You knocked it out brother. I would've been intimidated, and star struck.
If I happened to be on a ship, in the middle of the ocean, and I heard this out in the darkness, I'd be dead. Cause I'd totally go toward it.
If there was a male version of sirens, they would be it
One TBG member giving some great analysis on another TBG member's cover -- that's rad
Hell yeah
One TBG member commenting on a video by a TBG member giving some great analysis on another TBG member's cover - that's even more rad
@@AbstractNonsense_ bass gangception😲
Loved this reaction. Peter saying Eric makes him feel like a tenor is almost as good as whatitdodave saying " his voice is the earth's crust itself
Eric is really amazing! A low chest voice still beats every subharmonic technique. I guess there are not many people on this earth who can even sing that low. Not to speak of the incredible power.
i imagine the room vibrating when he's singing full volume
Watching him react to Eric's superbass is always amusing.
Yeah, Eric's voice still does that to me. My voice is slightly deeper than yours, Peter, and hearing Eric even after the 100th time still drops my jaw! I can reach F#1 in pure chest voice, but Eric's resonance and power behind it is next level! I think Eric is good to something like C1 or B0 in chest.
i love how you basically just died as soon as you heard eric at 13:19 LOL
I am fairly certain I felt my soul vibrating when they hit that final note.
"And turn your sails toward home" was the best line just because how deep that "home" was like wow
What note was that? F1 or E1?
16:55 I'm really amused at your reaction to big Eric, love his voice thank you for your amazing breakdown
I love watching you listen to Eric. You always have respect for other bass singers, but he makes you react like the higher voiced reactors react to the Bass Gang. I especially loved the melt during Eric's verse.
Your reaction to Eric’s voice was similar to mine. It’s insane.
Not me with my untrained and squeaky chipmunk voice trying to make that low note of Eric's! 😂 Holy hell...I can't even fathom how he gets that deep... freakin' amazing
That long peel of bass thunder at the end still gets me. Earth-quaking....
That ending can make dead spine tingle
@@creamcitysista1970 Seriously
Thanks for the reaction! While not a bass reaction … I’d love to hear your reaction to Rob and Austin’s opera cover! It was impressive, but I’d love to hear a trained opera singer’s take!
Yes please this one!!
I came here to ask the same thing.
This should be interesting. Having a trained opera singer critique two country boys who “definitely did not go to college and did some musical theatre and opera training” should be very entertaining to watch and learn from. Peter should take this into consideration.
I also came here to request the same thing lol, I felt like a child who was gonna just say Peter, Peter, Peter plllllllleeease react to Austin and Rob lol
@@robertofiend1264 Rob was trained in opera but it’s been years since he’s sang opera
Eric sounds like a tuba
Eric's voice is just freakishly awesome! On a side note though, I think David is not getting enough love for his part. His range is very good!
That D natural half way through gave me chills. It make it sound like a composed growl. So sick.
I told Eric H that I said to myself when listening to him, "That basso profondo has got talent like no other bass singer ever had. I wonder what Paul Robeson would say about Eric Holloway." He then said that Robeson, if he was still alive now, would say that Eric would sound like him given that they both sound like they're the similar age. And then, I told him that Hoist the Colours is just as good as Ol' Man River and he agreed.
I think he totally nailed it when hearing those double low notes. If I can imagine him singing next to Glenn Miller, Vladimir Miller, Geoff Castellucci, and, hate to say this, the great basso Samuel Ramey, the whole universe would have been blown up!
Favourite moment? The operatic baryton/tenor sailing above those gorgeous Bass voices. The contrast between the voices.
Eric really chills my spine...
I am happy to see your chair again.
Back in action!
Imagine they got even like avi, Geoff castellucci , and even tim foust
That'd shatter the entire planet
I watched the original probably 10 times, all with the most disgusted look on my face. Eric blew my ears clean off. This song is amazing. Eric's voice is how I imagine God's voice.
16:02 stank face so hard
Please react to Nessun Dorma sining by Ausin and Rob from home free, they did an outstanding job
I second this!! I actually commented on their video that I hope he does, I’d love to hear his thoughts
I third this! I think you will be delighted by how Austin and Rob present the aria! You will find it on Austin Brown’s RUclips channel.
Eric has the voice deeper than the hole deeper than the earth
I love the part where they "split" the vocals. Especially when you have some good headphones on, it sounds incredible. 🥰🥰
I listened with headphones and I can't tell if I am crazy or if there is a really high pitched ringing at certain points throughout this song?
@@rorschach775You're not crazy. One guy adds an operatic feeling to it and goes quite high.
So glad you did this analysis man!! So much knowledge spreading around! Thank you!!
Speaking of a capella moving out into other spheres, Voiceplay did In the Hall of the Mountain King the other day, can't wait for you to look at that! Geoff goes nuts in that
Yeah, lot of opera from our fav acapellas all of a sudden :)
16:05 I like how your face goes from "Man that's sour 💀." to orgasm because of Eric's voice 😂.
Finally someone that doesn't over analyze simple harmonies. Focused instead on color good stuff!
Great analysis of such a cool cover! Love hearing a bass singer break down bass as always. And I appreciate the analysis of the key and chord structures, I find that so interesting! 😁
I love this version! It's so dark! Can you react to the version of Hoist by Lauren Paley, Malinda, Bobby, and Colm McGuinness? It's so incredibly haunting! Lauren at the top creates some amazing dissonant notes that are just chill inducing!
I love all these guys so much. I'm a huge fan of bass singers. Nothing makes my soul shake like a beautiful bass voice! Mind you, I can appreciate all gorgeous voices in all ranges (I melt for Dimash and Forestella). I do admit that I prefer male voices over most female voices, but that aside, anyone who is truly talented gets my attention.
I love your reactions.
You have so much knowledge about music.
Your professional explanation (as a professional yourself)and insights brings listening to music to a brand new, amazing level.
Amazing analysis as always. Thank u for always being thorough.
This is such a great cover of this song and full of bass!
I saw it and thought that it is epic.. absolutely love their version.. fun to hear your analysis
This is an insane display of human cooperation, imagine you will, 20,000 bc. Hunting and gathering and all of a sudden you hear a great low tone, shaking the bushes and sending shivers down your spine. Now imagine that sound. Progressing to a melody, a song. How utterly terrifying that would be.
I do appreciate the solos, they are absolutely amazing, but I ADORE the harmonies in the choruses. Just. That first one gives me chills. Love it.
Finally, I've been waiting to see you react to something featuring Eric Hollaway. I agree his voice is shocking, and fantastically applied in this kind of context.
I've beeeeen waiting for you to drop this reaction and analysis!!!
Voiceplay has a new video out and it is The Hall of the mountain king. I think you will get a kick out of it 😎😎😎
Bobby's amazing
The one you're missing is Peyton Parrish. He was featured in "Valhalla Calling Me"
Exactly the breakdown I was looking for. Excellent. Subscribed 👍
I'm glad you picked up that brief tenor run. I wasn't sure whether I was imagining it before you paused to highlight it.
Happy they made a full version with Bass. More bass is always good.
that was incredible. My favorite bass voice is eric Holloway
Love Bobby Waters
I keep getting shorts recommended with this song. A trip down the rabbit hole I found the full length and now I'm here. I thought one of the singers sounded opera like and was at a higher pitch, but being the first time I heard this full length wasn't sure if I was just 'hearing things'. Interesting video.
The guy third from left is Snikle, he’s not usually a vocalist but he got Tiktok famous for just having a low speaking voice lol
I was wondering if anyone was gonna mention Jesse! Glad I didn't have to! ☺️ His funny TikToks are worth following, if nothing else!
I absolutely love this song and listening to your analysis was great.
Thanks for adding in that you didn't have your vipers. I was very disappointed that they didn't make an appearance. But now I know. As always excellent analyses. Hope you enjoyed your time in Santa Fe.
Those high harmonies knock me over-and thanks for identifying who sang it. You guys should do something together. I’d stand in a LONG line to hear it!
And psssh to the controversy about your operatic version-it was fantastic!
You may have heard Austin and Rob from Home Free just took a shot at Nessun Dorma. I love it, but I’m dying to hear your thoughts.
Hope you’re feeling much better! And by the way, you made it work well with the equipment you had.
This is a great idea! Peter and I will definitely have to collaborate on something at some point!
@@BigBrev I’m there for it!
F#1 in fry on a good day but I've had coffee after midnight so it's shaky after G. These cats are unreal
If you mean Eric Holloway, no that's his chest voice, no subharmonincs at all.
So excited for this!!
Absolutely loved this pirate sounding song. Fabulous voices all of them. Thanks Peter for reacting to this song. Dorothy x ( Grandma North East England )
@Peter Barber Just a few thought bout your Idea this is a song pirates would sing all day.
From the PotC lore and even the text in that song this is a song which will ever only be sung once. The pirates starting to sing this and spread this is the call to start the storyline of PotC 3.
The song is about Davy Jones binding Calypso in an human body.
Long story short. It's okay if Iit doesn't sound completely like a typical all day pirate shanty :)
Greetings from Bavaria
Thanks for you content 🙂
First video I have seen of you. You sir had a beautiful voice
Chills and tears...i love them!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have watched 4 reactions and I love seeing everyone crushing on Eric's part I mean who doesn't
Always love your analysis. You REALLY need to check out Austin and Rob doing opera. It's on Austin's channel.
Bro has a voice deeper than corpse at this point
peter barber i do agree with you, bobby does have a very good and i can sound like him. but i have heard you sing before so keep up the great work.
Great reaction Peter might I suggest looking at Voiceplay in the hall of the mountain king its really good keep being amazing Peter!
I'm like a Tenor/Baritone and even I can't hit that A4 without head voice and sounding ridiculous. That is a really high note for a bass wow!
holy moly, what a voice you have. :)
You are amazing, guy!))) 😂 your emotions so naturally)))
Eric is a walking jackhammer
15:43 Eric would make Barry White sound childish! R.I.P. Barry
Live about an hour north of santa fe in taos thats cool you were so close
The guy you thought was another Eric is actually Nelson. Also going to join everyone else in begging you to react to VoicePlay’s In The Hall Of The Mountain King.
Hahah you had the stank face, the face that for some reason all people make at hearing incredibly low voices
There’s an extra “never shall” before the deep baritones finish it!
Good ear! That was me
❤@@BigBrev
Rob Lunquist and Austin Brown just released their version of Nessum Dorma. Blew me away, can't wait for reactions from real opera singers.
Fellow Virginian here, excited to see your reaction
Thank you for telling me Eric Holloway's name. I just heard him for the first time a few days ago and didn't know his name yet
eric has that world narrator voice
Long time subscriber, even longer follower and fan of Geoff and Tim...wannabe bass singer who I follow a lot of these guys trying to pick up ideas, methods, techniques, etc and I just discovered Eric a week ago. I don't know how a voice like his flew under the radar for so long!!
Wow, fantastic!!! Does anybody have some suggestions for a good stage mic for picking up the bottom end live? Thanks! Oh, also, how to EQ at the board?
Peter you really need to go to Austin Brown's channel and watch 'Two County singers try to sing opera - Nessun Dorma'. Featuring Rob Lundquist.
Also I love how we as Bass singers can sing higher full voice than most
At some point I'll have to listen to it through my hifi system rather than a phone or Bluetooth speaker. I bet the resonance would be incredible over my twin subs.
That said it's incredible that a phone speaker can actually reproduce those notes at all, given the quality of small speakers when I was a kid in the 80's and 90's.
from the sound of your voice you are fit to participate. because your voice is bass
The third from the left is beer bong john who switched to just being john
Nice analysis.
After recently discovering Jesse (aka, The Snikle), I was lowkey disappointed he didn't get to sing solo but he wasn't the only one so I am not too disappointed! I'm wondering if all that bass would even allow a pirate ship to stay intact 👀
Eric Hollaway is a god amongst men.
