Leonardo DiCaprio did a fantastic job playing this role but in my opinion he got a little over performed by Jack Nicholson who was just OUTSTANDING in this movie! The most well-played movie villian EVER!

This was intentional. Scorsese cast similar-looking actors to let us know that they are essentially the same character. Both characters are undercover, both characters are having independent struggles, and both characters are tied together by the same girl. He wanted us to notice the parallels between them

This and pulp fiction are my favourite movies of all time! This movie inspired me to get into screenwriting and directing. My dream is to one day direct a movie half as good as this masterpiece!

One of the best casts ever, everyone gave a great performance + the dialogue is memorable and its well paced. and overall one of the best movies of this century

The first time I ever went to the US was in 2006 and I was lucky enough to be in Boston when this came out which is why it’s my favourite film, as well as being utterly brilliant, irrespective of it being a remake. Also Boston, what a place, been back 3 times now and still love it!
Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen and Leonardo DiCaprio with Martin Scorsese as director? What more can you ask for. Great cast great film great everything. One of the best films of all time

And of course, the hero gets crucified -- nails pounded through his hands -- in Last Temptation of Christ.
hands= symbolism of the morality of what you do. i'll throw in another scorses movie: cape fear. there's a great shot of nick nolte's hands shaking and full of blood. the next shot shows him washing the blood off of his hands. i won't go into it if you haven't seen the movie, but it's very meaningful. and tarantino has a foot fetish. there have been women who've dated him that confirm this!

I7 years later I’m watching this again. What an exceptional movie!!
For those of you saying that the actors look alike, when you look at anyone in state/government work (in this case police officers, but the same goes for CIA and FBI) the similar look is common. Generic white male, a short clean cut and comb, clean shaven, medium muscular build (think runner's build), and a height not exceeding 6'1. It allows them to blend well on the street. I'm guessing the director had this in mind when making this movie.
This movie is a recommendation 100%. Awesome cast, awesome play out.

wtf these plots were just mindblowing. i didnt even know what i was watching any more, and it ended with a real shock. couldn't get my mind to it and still cant.
I don’t get it, why Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t received the Oscar for his roll. He was the best! Great movie, Great cast.
Leo did not submit or campaign for the movie. He did not want to be single out as Lead, and did not want to campaign against Wahlberg and Nicholson in Supporting. Studio focused on Oscar campaign for Blood Diamond where he got nominated. There is your answer. It's all in the movie's trivia.
