- Top 10 Most Ridiculous Drag Racing Wheelstands that I have filmed in the last 5 years at Byron Dragway.
This is a wheelie contest so they are taking the wheelie bars off or pulling them way up to win this contest for the roaring crowd. This is an amazing event that goes on every October at Byron Dragway and is one contest that I look forward to every year.

Wheelstand competition - A dozen competitors do $5,000 + worth of damage to each one of their cars, so that one driver can win $10,000. I'm thinking auto parts stores are organizing this race.
The green 68 makes my stomach hurt. What a beautiful car that is just being abused.

They ran D derby's about 6 or 8 times a summer, and the county fair was the finals
A Beautiful Camaro, was the trophy Girls ride all season. exactly the same as in this video, with OEM really type wheels. Color, black top everything...STUNNING CAR, after they drove nice and slow, in front of the grand stands
They made a announcement and pulled the Camaro onto the center of the arena, and busted out the glass and filled the doors with cement.
About 2 hours later in finals...
They ran it in the destruction derby .

Thanks Matt, yeah it can be an expensive sport if things don't go well. Most of the times the guys doing the wheelies can do it just fine time and time again. This was just a collection of videos I took over 5 years of watching this competition.

None of them are 100K cars, there was a chevette there one year purely built to flip right over, and it did. Guy probably had under $10,000 in the car, potentially under $5000.
$10k in prize money $500k in damage.

Fair enough cheering if someone successfully landed a fantastic wheelie, but hearing people cheering after seeing someone completely destroy their car just pains me.
Like spending a dollar for a dime...
And not even spending a dollar for a dime profit, winding up with $1.10, but investment that dollar in hopes that it turns into a dime leaving $ .90 (or a full 90%) short. What a genius thing to do.

How the guy in the little chevy luv p-up saved it from landing on it's side was impressive. The driver of the next car (pink olds I think) needs to learn when to let off the throttle or he already knows & he's crazy like that. It just dawned on me that he could of had a stuck throttle.........My bad. IMHO

Why do this vehicles eventually tip over to the left or right on a full stand?
Once the bumper hits, the rear wheels lose contact with the track. Which ever wheel looses grip first, is the way the car is going to go.
Torque plays a part also.

Can't wait to see the WheelieBlazer back out there! I was down in Texas last weekend to film the Street Outlaws event but it got rained out both days, I couldn't stay till Sunday. And I thought it never rained in Texas... ha ha.
