Not all drag cars need wheelie bars though, its extra weight, and not all classes allow it.

If these racing organizations REALLY cared about SAFETY, any car that runs 9.99 in the 1/4 or faster should be required to have wheelie bars.
There's a class that doesn't allow wheelie bars.
I'm at 1:40 and I'm already wondering how many of these guys regretted the decision to not bother springing for those wheelie bars.
Most of these cars use a radial tire. You don't use wheelie bars for radials.
