@@Kdoghalo Apparently It's supposed to be canon to the Arkham games, which is bullshit, although those games themselves are amazing, they fucked it up by trying to half ass it and tie it in to the Arkham story
Honestly, this is the big difference. I remember saying it to a friend back with the Arkham games were still new that what they do amazingly well is true immersion into a power fantasy. The combat system is so fluid and so versatile that you feel truly immersed in a Batman action scene, you truly feel like the Batman. Suicide Squad has you wiping out hundreds of enemies, but it doesn't matter if you comically repeat the same attacks, phase through the enemies with others, and there's no fluidity to the fights. The older clips of Harley feel like a movie, they make her feel exceptionally skilled and dangerous, but the new clips feel like cheap combat in an arcade machine game. Graphics could be worse, art direction could change, but the biggest failure of Suicide Squad is that all the characters feel the same, all the characters feel mediocre, and you don't feel like you're embodying any of the characters you're actually playing.
It’s crazy how everything in the newer game just looks like it’s made out of the same material, like matte, dry plastic. Og Arkham had so many textures, like sleek leather or slippery wet roadways.
@@sweatybattlefrontplayer715fr, that footage of SSquad combat makes it looks like some sort of cheap mobile games, it looks bland, repetitive and lazy.
Yeah not even just Batman, OP also showed the Harley DLC where she also has different move sets. Even the camera is better in the Arkham games as it moves it to the top when action happens. This is just amateur cashgrab slop.
It’s a shadow of a shadow. I’ve never seen a studio literally destroy their own game franchise’s legacy like Rocksteady has. Honestly the way they did Batman was horrible.
Funfact: Arkham Knight is running on a modified version of unreal engine 3 due to budget contraints. That just tells you how commited the old Rocksteady team was to their craft
I think they also were more comfortable working on their in house modified Unreal 3 than switching to the brand new and untested Unreal 4. They had built Asylum and City on Unreal 3, and instead of throwing all that work out to start working on Unreal 4, they kept with what they already knew.
Maybe budget constraints is the wrong way to describe it. Unreal Engine 4 was very unproven at the time and also had a lot of issues until later in the engine's lifecycle.
It was actually unreal 3.5 so basically unreal 3 with some features from unreal 4’s beta at the time. But overall it was modified and probably better than current unreal 4
@@Bugplanet8840 thats super intresting stuff, thats why it was always beyond me how was a "unreal 3 game", didnt make any sense, but the art design is probably the best aspect of it
Batman games have melee combat as a core mechanic. Suicide squad is a looter shooter, where melee is just for debuffs, some abilities and finishers, there's no melee in this game as it is, something like melee in Destiny, mostly useless. You must be seriously out of loop if you still want to defend triple a studios as if they were poor indie devs that dont know better. The unfortunate reality is that corpos with zero passion for games and a zealous ideology are ruining games even if the devs want to make it great. @derbyblade9572 actually Arkham knight has a shit ending (I'm putting my explanation here since my other comment got deleted for slurs. How annoying, anyways the reason I consider Batman Arkham's ending shit. It's he loses in such a dogshit way, which would NEVER happen to Batman. He gives up his belt which has most of his gadgets in them, I say most because Batman SHOULD have other gadgets for lock picking in his suit just like in the animated series and the comics but no he doesn't then belt is the only thing makes Batman dangerous against gunmen then. Even though he doesn't NEED his bat suit to take down gunmen it just makes it easier, we see this in the Arkham origins cold heart Dlc. But he just willigly gives up on his life as Bruce Wayne all because scarecrow was holding a pistol...but scarecrow is ALONE WITH NOBODY HELPING HIM OUT, man! Batman is held at gun point! A Fodder who gets one tapped by Gordon? It's almost like he's forgotten like he's Batman similar to how Shepard forgets about his godly Charisma in mass effect 3 out of nowhere.)
It was just poor optimization on their part. The game ran fine in weaker consoles vs PC. Same thing happened with The last of us. I had Arkham Knight in PS4 and PC when it was fixed so i never really had a problem.
SweetBaby Inc (woke writing/game consultancy) worked on this project, to 'improve' Rocksteady's ESG score. You can tell even with details as simple as moving Harley's bat so it covers her butt as she walks, as opposed to AK where it was tilted to one side because she's walking in a confident, show-offy way. In AK the devs gave her animations personality, that included her awareness of her own nice physique. She flaunts it. But that's objectifying, says SweetBaby, because the player can look at it! Tilt that weapon way down so it obscures her butt! Let's remove those parts of Harley's character, turn her into a generic wacky girl with a blunt weapon. Then have her look at her old costume from those prior games and call it a "phase she regrets". So progressive!
Man it’s amazing how much graphics got better from that suicide squad game to the Batman game, you can really see the 9 years of technological improvements…
The fortnitification of gaming is real. Cheap and easy to make. I always have doubts when they got pastel colors and "random dopamine loot pinatas" for the lack of a better word.
The funny thing is it probably also doesn’t take much hardware to max out the graphics of the older games, and it has become more apparent that older games have superior graphics to optimisation ratios then today’s games. To design and create is one talent, to optimise is another.
Modern corporate games are made in the same way as modern corporate websites. Multiple devs cobbling together packages without really understanding what they do or how they will perform. I mean it's great that you can go no-code in unreal (for instance) and make a game but all that abstraction comes at a price and the low bar to entry means that it's likely you won't know what that price will be.
it has an over-saturated filter to compensate for this, but consequently very low contrast (resulted in lighter shadows and less light-to-dark differentiation). Contrast makes things pop and can make otherwise dull graphics look gritty and detailed. The second game was obviously going for a lighter, more playful look but in some areas it just doesn't look right. I also don't understand the unnecessary atmospheric fog affect, it makes things even harder to see in front of you.
To add to this, it looks fine during the day because the colors are a lot more visible under the light but during night time the low contrast makes things significantly harder to see.
That's the price you pay for every game having "upscaling in mind" nowadays. How can you afford shadows and ambient occlusion when you cant even afford to run the game at native res anymore?
@@kristoffseisler2163 Even aside the shadows and ambient occlusion, at a base level, suicide squad is STILL visually inferior on so many levels. I think the suicide squad game has much better water movement (at the shoreline); At night the waves should be much calmer. However, Batman's textures and reflections are 100x better. I think that if they were able to utilize the water movement at the shoreline from suicide squad and the texturing capabilities from Batman this water would look impeccable. That being said, the waves in suicide squad feel a little slow and kinda have this bounce to them that waves don't naturally have, but I think they perform better (especially looking at the radial pattern leading up to the coastline) than the very jagged/rough waves in batman. ALTHOUGH the waves in Batman look so much better overall when viewing the larger portion of the water, they handled the large and distant waves very very well, while suicide squad kinda made it all flatten out as you went away from the coast. I still think that Batman's waves overall are a lot better, but the coastline, specifically for the shape of the waves, was done a little better in suicide squad. Sorry, it's 1 am after a few beers. Majoring in 3D design, I saw your comment and it sparked a tangent in my brain. I do agree that Arkham has spectacular waves, but they look like waves in a BIG storm. While we can see that it is storming, the rain is just coming almost straight down without heavy winds that would give the waves the shape that we can see in the game. It kinda takes me out of it as it does not compute for the weather conditions that we see, but the suicide squad waves take me out of it because why the fuck do they get so flat. Sure, waves do get taller as they approach the shoreline, but like, they don't get that flat out in the water, it looks so weird. Sure, Arkham's water looks too jagged but at least it's possible in specific conditions, but water does not have waves that are that uniform and that flat like in suicide squad. Props to both teams though, even if it is the same company, for making some cool waves. Them shits are hard to do. TLDR: Batman's waves are better, but the weather conditions don't add up. Suicide Squad has better calm waves, but the textures are a lot worse. I am going to go to bed, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

the cut from the very versatile batman battle to harley repetitively smashing a guy with a bat using the exact same animation is humorous to me
Honestly, this is the big difference.

Maybe budget constraints is the wrong way to describe it. Unreal Engine 4 was very unproven at the time and also had a lot of issues until later in the engine's lifecycle.

The funny thing is it probably also doesn’t take much hardware to max out the graphics of the older games, and it has become more apparent that older games have superior graphics to optimisation ratios then today’s games. To design and create is one talent, to optimise is another.
Modern game devs have no talents, they are bugs
Modern corporate games are made in the same way as modern corporate websites. Multiple devs cobbling together packages without really understanding what they do or how they will perform.
I mean it's great that you can go no-code in unreal (for instance) and make a game but all that abstraction comes at a price and the low bar to entry means that it's likely you won't know what that price will be.

It feels like SS has no shadows on any objects.
it has an over-saturated filter to compensate for this, but consequently very low contrast (resulted in lighter shadows and less light-to-dark differentiation).
Isn't SS mostly missing shiny reflections that pop out?
That's the price you pay for every game having "upscaling in mind" nowadays. How can you afford shadows and ambient occlusion when you cant even afford to run the game at native res anymore?
@@kristoffseisler2163 Even aside the shadows and ambient occlusion, at a base level, suicide squad is STILL visually inferior on so many levels. Stop trying to ignore the REAL issue, which is laziness and mass cost-cutting despite the industry being more profitable than it ever was before.

Right? Every frame of the Arkham version is a painting in its own right. This was just sad.

Ikr? In the new one the water movement looks like someone stretching and twisting a rubber band
The one on the left looks like jello 💀

@@JohnLennonisMe Well, I say play Arkham Asylum, City, then Knight on PS4, Xbox One, PS5, or Xbox Series.
If possible, play Origins on PC either natively or through emulation, or play on PS3 or 360.
The Switch versions aren't great at all, PC Knight sux, and PC City and Asylum use the PS3/360 code so they look worse.
The transition at 1:06 just took me out to a romantic dinner and a movie. That was *masterfully* executed.
To me, the issue seems to be lighting. For whatever reason, suicide squad has no contrast at all making colors and textures look flat. Batman is always nighttime and wet, so everything has reflections and specularity so there's a lot more visual complexity in a scene. I'm sure the detail is there for the textures in Kill the Justice League, but they are doing a terrible job of showing them off.
Gameplay in Arkham Knight is much better too, it's not just te graphics
Lighting and particle effects make a huge difference
Especially when you remove them to make a shitty dis video
@@atomosvrial1708 I have caught you 3 times now crying that Arkham knight is visually pleasing than ssktj cope and seethe .
lighting design is ALL when it comes to graphics.
@Spillow-C yea man I'm playing ghost of tsushima rn....holy hell the lighting is gorgeous!! Great way to end the ps4 sucker punch started it n ended it (:
@@Spillow-CYeah. Just watched some Garry's Mod video recently. The mapper used pixelated, low-res textures, low poly models but the lighting was so, so good! Suicide Squad looks so incredibly dull and flat in comparison. Bad lighting, lame art direction. Lots of old games using old tech and cheap methods for lighting yet are way more interesting to look at.
