The blendtec smoothie isn't lighter from oxidative damage. It's lighter because the interfaces between tiny air bubbles and liquid inside it are scattering light. It's the same as why snow is white even though ice is clear.

Love this video, I make from scratch ranch dressing with my homemade yogurt. Have never grown microgreens before, but the way you've explained it looks a lot like how i do my yogurt and bread baking. The routine of making things from scratch as they were meant to be is a very enjoyable habit. I have a small place, but I do have outdoor space, so maybe I'll start small inside and eventually move outdoors into a modest green house. That blender sounds like the same vacuum in my vacuum sealer. Thanks for such a great video :)

When you water them, add a small amount of hydrogen peroxide to your water. I put 1/4 cup per gallon and it keeps the fungus and mold at bay. Also, make sure your medium is sterile. I use coconut coir because it is void of any additives. Seeds don't need nutrients. Everything they need is inside their seed pod so give them water and light and they should thrive.

Great video! Thanks! John you're fantastic! You got me started on my journey with growing, health, and micro greens. I'm so passionate about it and, yes, it is improving my health. I've had a doctor wanting to put me on statins because my LDL and triglycerides were too high. Well, after this holiday season, my LDL went down! I asked the doctor "what am I doing right?" She thought it was because I'd had COVID-19 over the holidays and people don't eat so much when they're sick. But I've been gaining weight eating Christmas cookies and other goodies people gave us for the holidays. What has been the only difference in my consumption? Micro greens! I've been growing micro greens and eating them in as high quantity as I could every day. I saw a RUclips video recently where they they shared a research paper that was done - an experiment on mice and a high fat diet. They gave all the mice a high fat diet but then gave some of them micro greens to eat. The ones who ate the micro greens had their LDL cholesterol and triglycerides go down! Now I'm convinced. I will never not eat micro greens again. And, I have you to thank for totally inspiring me. You are the best! Thanks for your inspiration and guidance and, just like you, I'm going to keep on growing!

When you look after your stomachs acid profile via acid ways the more it will break down not so chewed greens. Blending harms fibre. So best to cut small with scissors. Then chew fairly well. Stomach mives n with good acid will melt the greens.

I like to think that "There is more than meets the eye" in my videos. Reading thru the lines, I weave in a lot more tips than vacuum blending in this episode. People that are eager for knowledge to improve their lives, see the value in my longer format videos. IMO There are many tips in this episode on eating microgreens in the most healthy way. For those that don't like my long videos, here is my summary:
      1. Grow them Yourself
      2. Eat Large Quantities (A Flat at a time) not a handful.
      3. Harvest Right Before Using Microgreens
      4. Eat a variety of different types of microgreens
      5. Chew Each Mouthful of Microgreens into a Mush
      6. Vacuum Blend Microgreens instead of Using a Standard Blender to preserve up to 4x more antioxidant content
      7. Don't eat microgreens with milk or other dairy products or Nutrients may not be absorbed
      8. Mix microgreens with other food items (such as fat) to increase nutrient absorption
      9. BONUS TIP I did not mention in episode - Use Gropal Trace Minerals to Grow your microgreens.

I think the best way (that you did not talk about) is juicing the microgreens, especially if you are sick. Juicing is the fastest way to get those nutrients into the body and has been scientically tested with the broccoli microgreens.

    • @growingyourgreens
      @growingyourgreens  5 лет назад +7

The problem with juicing is that microgreens make very little juice, and the juicing process can do some damage to the nutrients. So while I do prefer to juice leafy greens, I prefer to chew or vacuum blend microgreens. Of course, if you have unlimited microgreens, by all means, juice them!

Topic Idea: The nutritional comparison of juicing micro greens to blending micro greens. I know which would have more fiber. Also what juicer would be best to use on micro greens? Would a Nama J2 be an appropriate choice?

Will adding olive oil slow the air contact like they do to protect the 'loose wine' (room temp left over wine with olive oil seperator from air contact) in italy?

I live in Japan, been here awhile, we definitely have a culture of using miso soup, in many recipes, miso is made from the miso bean, and something called dashi, which is just basically a salty flavorued seaweed extract, made by boiling seaweed. Also they make dashi from fish, etc. The thing to watch out for, is MSG, msg is an after product added to miso paste, to cover up and strange other chemical flavors used in cheap products, for example the want to cover the flavor of some unnatural preservatives.
msg is known to be quite toxic to the body, but hasnt really been talked about in the japanese circles, etc ive heard with.
usually you know there is msg in it if you drink the soup, and you have that ahhhh feeling. thats msg. Msg, also is addictive, and it fools the brain, to make you think it is amazing, by utilizing a certain chemical, of the brain, but is a false signal, that is another reason why it is unhealthy. So guys just to be clear if using miso, please make extra sure it says NO MSG.

Look up the benefits of broccoli sprouts and it explains that the anti-cancer element are released after they are chopped, chewed, or blended. I’m sure the theory would apply for micro greens as well.
