im about 6,500$ deep into starting ym business. No joke you're 100% why im starting this. Once i have the initial investment paid off, (hopefully within half a year or so) the cost per tray vs return is absolutely crazy. AND you get near infinite personal microgreens for friends and family. Almost half my cost went into building an insulated shed in the back for weather control since i don't have a garage. that sucked, but a one off thing. It's a lot of time if you want to do it at scale and is no joke a job, just one spread out and super chill.
    Donny you're the man

Howd you drop that much? I was able to start mine for $2000, I'm capable of growing 40 trays at a time right now, which eventually Ill need more but im hitting the limit on my breakers anyway.

@@DTR89 almost half the cost was building the actual shed. its like 7.5'x8.5'x7.5' so i can fit 3 racks in their until i have to expand. I didnt just buy a shed because they're like 3k and uninsulated. I had to buy lots of things though, 120 tray X10$ or something a tray is already another 1k plus 15 grow lights at i think like 50$ a light or something, dehumidifyer, indoor heater, fans, lots of tuber ware yada yada yada. Lot of one off expenses that are reoccurring assets, like the trays. Somewhat heavy upfront cost, but at the end of the day if it goes under im only out like less than 10k, the bigger loss would be the time i've dedicated to trying.
Seeds are actually pretty cheap though. I'm not even buying biggest bulk prices and spend probably less than 4$ a tray on dirt and seeds, often like 2.50$ but i'll organize my numbers soon. if you're making a minimum of 25$ a tray... well do that math.

Hey Donny, not sure if you can help me with this. I saw a bunch of videos from different sources. I found yours really with an amazing content congrats.
My question is: What about growing microgreens without soil. Meaning with water and something such as Hydroponic minerals for the seeds?
I saw a video comparing microgreens from soil and from water and I could not see the difference.
My interest on that is basically to reduce the waste generated from the soil after every tray change

I live in the mountains of central Italy. Winter is long and temperature can go 20 below. Summer is upto 40 so a test to choose which to try and grow?? Plenty of land and animals on site. Can Animal manure be used to make good compost for greens. In winter i use in the earth for the next springs veggies. Tomatoes, garlic, peppers, pumpkins, zucchine grow well for instance. I want to start micro as relatively new still here, but our chefs are great ha ha. What would you suggest as good for climate during winter? Yes i could grow indoors on small scale, but im more concerned for mould?
